Soniq 40" Full HD LED TV F40FV17C with Freeview Plus $199 + Delivery (Free Metro Delivery/Free C&C) @ Soniq

180

The TV from this Auspost deal is on sale for Black Friday at Soniq. The website says free delivery for Metro areas, but I entered a few non-Metro areas and it still showed up as free, so it could be nationwide potentially. Otherwise free click and collect is available.

Comes with built in YouTube and web browser. Connectivity via ethernet or WiFi.

This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals for 2020

  • 3 of these would make a good budget racing simulator

    • I wouldn't go that way without having some idea what the lag is like.

I have one of these from before the Australia post deal (it was this price before that deal).
It has been holding up well so far, mounted on a Fitueyes wheeled floor stand from amazon.

It is nothing special, but for the price it performs admirably. No visual artifacts or light bleed to my eye, but my eye is admittedly pretty poor. Sound is decent for the money, but you will want a soundbar if you want anything resembling bass. Plenty loud enough for the bedroom though - I usually have it on 15-20.

In the way of features, you get freeview plus and a youtube "app" (it's a webview on a built in, non user accessible web browser), accessible by either WiFi or ethernet.
Freeview plus lets you enter "apps" on some of the freeview channels for ondemand movies and shows from sbs, abc and 7.
There are 2 usb ports to attach storage for recording freeview, which can be scheduled, however they don't have the power to drive a chromecast or similar - you will need to use wall power.

For ports there is 3xhdmi (NO ARC), VGA, component, 3.5mm and optical audio out, some weird proprietary soundbar connector that seems useless (I couldn't find any compatible products).

IMO for $199 delivered, it is great value for a second or bedroom TV, just don't expect the world from it.
I picked up a prime tv stick for $49 last night and will be using that on it instead of my gen3 chromecast, and may pickup a google chromecast with google tv if the price drops.

    • Do you feel it would be okay as a gaming TV? I'm currently trying to play the last of us 2 on a 10-year-old 720p 32inch Samsung and struggling a bit. Wondering whether this would be an upgrade or not.

I reckon it would be fine unless you eventually want to hook a PC or next gen console up to it - which it will do, just might not be a great experience. I currently have my switch hooked up to it and it is great for that. I have my XboxOneS hooked up to a significantly older Samsung and it works great on that. I imagine PS4 would be fine on this one.
