Mate at that point just buy a Switch you only need a charger and the console.

      • +3

Then you'll just be like all the other Nintendo switch players.

Stand out! Be the person that's dragging a Xbox S and monitor in the park.

        • Dragging the kilometer long extension cable might be a hassle though? The disappointment when a dog snags it and pulls it out the plug just before your high score would dampen the bragging rites.

          • @Lg151: That's why you surround yourself with 20sqm of solar panels and sit in the middle like the sun flower from plants vs zombie.

            Free. Electricity. For. Everyone!

      • Your not wrong about the Switch, but it depends on the games you want to play. If I'm honest I don't know what the long term will be for the S, but I think it's a decent machine at the moment in a very tiny box. Certainly if you bought the S, Hdd and portable monitor you are well in/over the series X cost. I think the price will drop probably by mid next year to shift more.

    • +1

The beauty of the Switch is that you can power it and a portable monitor with 1 good power bank.

  • OUT OF STOCK

    Rev up that buyers remorse!

  • I went to comments looking for some insight/reviews/remarks if this is a good gift and it’s delved to some kind of competition. Why are so many people arguing about which plastic box is better? Seems like insecurity. They’re both good

    • Exactly! Both are designed to run next-gen games just with different resolutions. I know know some third party games are not adding Ray tracing as promised. Microsoft is looking into it.
Here are two interesting article that might shade some lights on it.

I guess, my concern with the S is that so far its not delivering on what Microsoft has said about same perfomance just at a lower resolutation, and the difference in specs make it seem unlikely. I honestly, think Xbox vs Playstation this time is pretty meaningless, they are so similar in what they deliver. But the S, I think is just a poor decision to make.

To OzBoganYeah's point, the insight is, so far the S is not meeting the pre launch expectations and does not seem good value here. Even accounting for GST, at current exchange rates the S costs $50aud more than in the US. I think perhaps the argument for the S might be stronger if it was $450, and genuinely compelling at $400. BUt given the performance, i still think most gamers and therefore most people likely to buy the console at launch, would be better off saving for one of the other options.

I would never buy a digital version of a console

You might get it cheaper but you end up paying more for the games as digital downloads cost more than buying a hard copy of the game

And you can pick up second hand games cheap as well

    • I've seen digital games on sale for cheaper than the retail copy.

      • +1

True but why limit yourself and you can also use the 4k player, plus you wouldn't need to pay for extra storage or keep redownloading games and you can sell your disk games or trade in.

      • Not at launch, mostly. Eventually, sure.

    • I will buy the PS5 digital
I hate fumbling around with discs and I stupidly impulse buy games that I never play on disc. I still have at least 3 xbox one discs still in plastic
I'll happily spend the extra $150 on digital games so I don't need to get my lazy butt of the couch to change games

      • Couldn't agree more…

    • True for Ps5 but not so much for Xbox because of game pass. i.e. you could technically never buy any games and still have a huge library of quality games to play.

  • Someone on tiktok must really hate their new console:

    https://vm.tiktok.com/ZSghhuDR/

  • It's back in stock. Unfortunately no Shopback for Video Games.

    • CR cash back for all categories including this ($25), 4-6pm AEDT.

  • back in stock

    • They nearly need to discount the RRP already :)

Going through games and this came up unexpectedly.

Body is definitely not too short…

    • +7

Don't get this if you can spring for the Series X instead. The difference in performance and quality is huge and well worth it.

      • Thanks for the advice but where can i find stock of the Series X?

        • +2

Fully appreciate it's a bit of challenge to get one right now, but stock is being released over time and it's definitely worth the wait.

        • You might be able to buy through the marketplace into the Xbox one X/S. Some people got on on whirlpool

        • Via Telstra, sign up then cancel straight away.

      • +2

or get it for its emulation ability and go nuts playing current and retro stuff .. :)

        • +6

$499 for an emulator is a bit dumb lol

          • @Thefong: thats a bonus… :) not the main reason…MVG … i only saw this because of a post from dealbot i think and some of the guys commented on the Xbox consoles and emulation abilities … either way interesting vid

          • @Thefong: a bit awkward when an xbox can play more backward compatible exclusives than a Playstation can though….

            • @cille745: Can't say I'd buy either console for exclusives right now, they both barely have any atm

              • @Thefong: Sorry, I meant it's a bit embarrassing that a Series S can play more PS1 and PS2 games than the PS5. I agree though, only good exclusive atm is Demon's Souls and as good as it is, doesn't have very wide appeal

      • Even if you don't have a 4K TV?

        • +2

Yes, many games seem to struggle to even hit 1080p60 on the Series S.

          • +1

@Hybroid: I mean, i'm having zero issues playing the new COD on series S at 120hz 1440 so. Doesnt check out.

            • @TophBeiFong: Maybe it's an optimisation issue, Yakuza: Like a Dragon definitely cannot. Digital Foundry has plenty of comparisons where framerates drop significantly.

          • @Hybroid: Is there a definitive list of games that are struggling to hit 1080p on the S?

            • @smartazz104: Not aware of a collated list but watch Digital Foundry reviews on YouTube, they usually include Series S performance as well.

              • @Hybroid: is there a consensus on this? multiple reviewers, multiple sources etc? DF i'm sure are great place to go for reviews but i do like to cross check.

i can't comment as i have the SX .. so had no real need to check the SS out..

                • +1

@scud70: Exactly. Unless there are st least 4-5 reputable sources that make a statement like this I would not place weight on it. We are in the age of "influencers". No one tells the whole truth anymore and everyone is out to profit.

                • @scud70: Yes and no. DF are the main players for technical analysis and other outlets typically reference them. You can find more but it's pretty apparent so far that series s isn't really up for next gen without significant compromises, to the point where you start to question whether you can even call it next gen.

          • @Hybroid: Thats not what reviews show though. what are these many games you mention though out of curiosity?

      • The series S is great. If you are happy with 1080p and dont need to much space its a fantastic device to use with gamepass

        • Unsure why you were downvoted for this but I’ll mainly be using it as a spare at my folks house on a 1080p monitor so it might end up doing exactly what I need.

      • I’ve got one waiting to pick up at EB to run at my folks place buttttt really considering getting the X and giving the S to my nephew

    • Can't say I disagree but if this is a spare platform S is not bad either :)

    • I picked one up recently with $80 off Amex deal, so for $420.

I had both PS4 and One X, this time I am going down the PS5 path, this however allows me to play any Xbox exclusives. I am using my external 2TB SSHD that I used with my One X and it is great as it has all the games still on it. The only games forced on internal HDD so far are Forza 4 and Gears 5.

So far playing games on my 4K TV has been pretty good, still have 230GB available for games that need to be installed on internal, so all up I am happy at the price point I paid. IT comes down to your use case.

      • hmmm i dunno if i'd buy this over the One X …. unless you want the quick load times etc.

    • Gamesmen have the Series S listed now too.

      https://www.gamesmen.com.au/video-games/xbox-series-x/consol…

    • I'm loving the S, super-fast, compact and quick resume means you don't have to commit to a single game per session.

I'll probably get the X when they revise it, HD rumble would be nice.

If you like to switch between a few games, and video streaming this is perfect

    • Purchased this morning and my credit card had been charged already. Status is "preparing for shipment"

    • Got the switch

Stop having such good deals OzBargain lol

    • Why are they not producing Series X? What is the purpose manufacturing this when there is a demand for X?

      • +1

They probably are but its a lot more popular than the S so that's why you see S being available and X not :)

        • In that case there must have been too many Preorders for X then.
But, xbox series x is like $1100 from scalpers. But, for PS5, they are asking for $1500. That must mean XBox is being released into the market faster than PS5.

          • @amazonaddict: I think the PS5 is more popular though…which is probably why. Either way .. thats just disgusting prices …

  • Available again but only 3 left

  • More in stock!!!

  • Game pass machine, so little and well made, great second console or one for the kids.

  • This time the stock has been for the last 6 hours or so.

It seems that the demand is getting lower by now.

  • Is Project xCloud going to come to this console as that may make up for not being as good as the series x in future keeping it relevant.

    • I tried project xcloud on my samsung note 20 ultra with telstra NBN 100mbps, still far beyond perfect..

  • Given the xbox series x is hitting $900 mark on facebook. I think scalper seeing the series S with little margin or even risk to stock up.

Oooooorrrrrrrrrr.. It is the boycotting Chinese made product thing??? lol

    • since when do scalpers have morales?

  • great buy if you stocked up on the amazon gift card deal via zip for 10% off

  • 6.17pm GMT+8 still available people!

  • I am surprised this isn't sold out, but its probably $100 too expensive for what it is, $350-400 would be about right.

  • EB GAMES Marion today said they had a few consoles yesterday I missed out today :(

      site doesn't work

  • Still not sold out and can't believe these are being scalped.

  • I want this and I have a ps5…something about game pass intrigues me. Not sure of I will ever have time to play on it.

  • Here for all the obligatory Xbox Series S sucks comments.
We've read them a thousand times now

    • +1

I'm a convert, PS5 is my main this generation, loving the S form factor, speed of games loading compared to last gen.

Will be great as my game pass console and the odd exclusive.
