80

Computer remote control via Android.

'Access your computer from your Android, and never leave anything behind.
50% off for a limited time.' An extended Cyber Monday sale I think.

I use LogMeIn Free to support clients computers from my home. This Android software does the same thing from an Android device. There are quite a few brands of this kind of software - LogMeIn is one of the better ones.

  • Problem is the fees they charge once you have the app.
I'd bug the Iteleport developers to get a android app up.

    • +3

As far as I know there are no fees.

      • Except, some features require the Pro version on your PC, which has an annual fee. It depends if these extra features are needed, or your happy to use the free pc version. You get a 30 day trial of pro version.

I use TeamViewer, its FREE for personal use, and works brilliantly.
Can remote login, transfer files etc etc

    • But they don't have an Android app do they?

      • Yes, why would he/she mention it if they didn't? :-)

      • +1

Yes they do, I ran it today to log into my PC at home, to run steam on that PC to install some steam keys and the apps I got as part of the IndieRoyale deal posted on here :D

And there are over 1 MILLION other people who have DL's it from the android market, and its rating is about 4.5 stars out of 5. A brilliant app.

        • Wow didn't know that, thanks!

I've been using LogMeIn for years on the PC, and TeamViewer for a few months (for some reason LogMeIn doesn't work as well from my work). It's been really annoying me to have to pay $30 for log me in so I haven't.

Thanks again for the heads up, will check it out.

  • Or Splashtop, the remote client is free on getjar (not on Android market)

    http://www.getjar.com/mobile/76092/splashtop-remote-desktop-…

    • It's 99 cents on the regular Android market (normally $9.99), but it's not the HD version (for tablets), which is $4.98 (normally $19.99). Just bought that to try.

      • Ok, the first Android app I got a refund for. Both versions have the same problems - pops up a firewall warning on the remote computer (so requires either a firewall exception or a person to click it at the remote end) and changes the resolution on remote from 1920 x 1200 to 1028 x 768. I couldn't see a way to fix it.

        • Splashtop HD? On the list of computers, long-press on the one you want and Edit, and under Resolution, change it to "Use computer's native display setting". It won't change the resolution on the remote computer - you can access 1920x1200 from your 1280x800 tablet. Use three fingers to scroll around the desktop.

No firewall warning on any of my computers.

One thing I like about LogMeIn is it works through a restart. Some others don't - you have to get the customer to reconnect you.

    • +1

That's a good feature. TeamViewer does that too.

    • Team Viewer does as well, just set it to autostart with Windows.
After using both, Team Viewer is my personal preference :)

      • I tried it from Android to my Mac, but couldn't work it out.

  • Thanks for the heads up on Teamviewer. I use Logmein on the pc, but have read some bad reports on their android app.

  • I use Logmein Ignite on my android, when I was on holiday in US and I need to connect to my client's PC using normal 3G connection.
It works fantastic, totally love this product

  • is there an android app that doesn't need a client installed on the PC? ie that can just connect through windows remote desktop?

  • Yes but according to the youtube link on the website "Ignition for Android: Now optimized for table"
Is TeamViewer optimized for tables? No! so Nyer!

    https://market.android.com/details?feature=search_result&id=…

    • +1

I presume you mean "tablets", no chairs involved?

      • +3

See? TeamViewer doesn't work on tables! Don't try and deny it, the app sucks. Sure, it may work on chairs and other various furnitures, but tables is where we need it to work on. Until the developers of TeamViewer gets their act together and implements a TableReady version, I'm afraid my vote'll have to go with a piece of paper. So, nyer!

      • No it says "…Now optimized for table"

I sometimes question why these apps want to charge you so much money, when there are free ones can do the same job.

    • -1

well first of all I believe team viewer are the only free one in this space. secondly they all charge money, it just depends on what (according to their business model). e.g. LogMeIn charges for the Android App, but team viewer doesn't.

Also, not sure about team viewer but LogMeIn ignition have great reviews everywhere.
