Set your target temperature, either from home or remotely via the Dyson Link app on your smartphone(4). The Hot Cool has been awarded Quiet Mark accreditation for improved sound and quality, as well certified as asthma and allergy friendly by Airmid Healthgroup laborities, and Sensitive Choice approved by National Asthma Council Australia. • This might be stupid question, but is this a purifier, along with a heater and air cooler? Anyone know how well they work? Worth the price?

    • +1

      I believe it purifies the air while blowing out heat or cool air. This is a good price, I believe for a HP03, but the HP04 is the newer model for this and is bigger and stronger which I'm waiting for. If you have a small/medium room, this should do the trick.

      • Easily the worst heater/fan money can buy. Works well as a purifier tho.

        • thanks - can u suggest something for me please?

      "This might be stupid question, but is this a purifier, along with a heater and air cooler? Anyone know how well they work? Worth the price?"

      It heats
      or
      It cools
      It also purifiers the air at the same time
      Different than a conventional fan, the Dyson fan is 'blade-less'. A more gentler flow or air circulation than a buffeting flow of air from a pedestal fan. This unit can also diffuse the air circulation.
      I have used this model for two years and I am very satisfied by it's performance. I am living on the mid North Coast of NSW… sub-tropical climate, moderate winter.
      As an asthmatic, this unit was perfect for me during last bush-fire season as it purified air via a substantial HEPA filter and kept airborne particulates at bay making breathing easier which a normal pedestal fan could not. The app available from Google and Apple is terrific to use and makes management of the fan and checking of air quality dead easy.

      At the 'Black Friday' sales 2 years ago, from Dyson directly I paid about $500 plus a free replacement HEPA filter valued at $99. Like Coca Cola, what is the true RRP when they come up for discount pricing from time to time. $532 is not a bad price. You may pay less for a cheap pedestal fan and a separate air purifier… this unit is easier to manage.

      The filter replacement cost of $99 is my only gripe… I have since purchased a decent 3rd party replacement from Amazon for $30+ which so far, works well. A word of caution… there are a lot of very cheap filters on eBay… according to feedback, many do not fit the Dyson as well as they state in their listings. If you are dependent on purified air, a loose fitting filter is about as useful as peeing in the wind.

    I did research into these a couple of years ago, and the research kinda concluded that considering they're still very loud they're not really worth the price. Can anyone recommend these or are they not really worth the $$?

    • +2

      I heard that they can be a bit noise if you're close or in a very quiet room, but my current $99 floor fan is quiet noise anyway. I guess one good thing is that this can replace two units (a heater and a fan) and it's more compact.

      @JoKing
      Mine is whisper quiet. Relative to other pedestal fans and air cons throughout the home, this unit is dead quiet. You have to turn it up to maximum fan levels to get noise. I need to check the blue/red LED to confirm that it is one and operating. See my comment above re worth the $$… it's all relative to what you want to compare it with.

      • Yeah okay, awesome info. Thanks heaps. I may put some thought into this.
        Did you ever do any research into other brands alternatives?

  • Is this more effective than evaporative cooling above 35 degree days? Evaporative is useless in 35 degree or more days. Thanks.

    • +1

      This won't give you any 'cool' air during 35 or above degree days as well.

    • +1

      The 'cool' is just a fan, nothing active to bring down the temperature

      • Ah yea, as i thought. Thanks guys.

    • +1

      @Bargain-er
      Evaporative cooling is only effective in a hot dry climate. In a hot humid tropical/sub-tropical climate they are completely useless as they are putting moisture into the air. The 35 degree temperature makes no difference with evaporative cooling if your environment is humid to begin with.

    I have this unit sitting next to me. Been using it for a few days. Air Purifier works well, heating works well, cooling sucks - it just blows air around like a regular $20 kmart fan. This won't do anything for you on a hot day.

    @cyrax

    It's all relative to your environment and subjective to what is effective for you in that environment.

    The cooling + air purifying function work well for me. I live in a hot sub-tropical climate. At times subjected to bush-fire smoke.

    I have an air conditioner in the same room which I never use anymore. This unit keeps me cool enough on a very hot day and the air quality is made good by the purifier. Personally, I do not need a high buffeting fan drying out my eyeballs. And no, this Dyson unit operates nothing like a cheap $20 kmart fan. No comparison.

    It works for me. It may not work this well for everyone.

  • Thanks op. Excellent Christmas gift idea to combine air purifier and bladeless fan/heater.

  • Arrived today. Pretty quick shipping (ordered on 29/11, delivered 2/12).

    • Nice one. Hope it meets your requirements. I'm still hold back until the HP04 is on sale.

      • Perfect for my parents who don't care for the smart features and I just wanted to get them an air purifier + bladeless fan/heater.
