15% off Nintendo eShop, TCN The Kids/Teen/Him/Her/Cinema/Pamper/Pub&Bar/Restaurant, Google Play Gift Cards @ Coles

8329

Saw this today at Coles.

15% off gift cards including Nintendo eShop, The Kids/Teen/Him/Her/Cinema/Pamper/Pub/Bar/Restaurant gift cards and Google Play gift cards ($50-100 only)
Starting 25/11 ending 1/12

UPDATE: cards not activate or not scanning/discount at checkout. Coles are pulling all cards out and refund. Some people reported some cards are fine. Wait until this is resolved. Such a shame.

UPDATE 2: some people reported that JB-Hifi has lifted the restriction on $500 max Gift card purchases, so you could try your luck. Please buy max 5 cards only and leave them for other people (including me, haha, got none so far) so everyone can have a smiling Black Friday purchases.

PARTY IS OVER. Well done to those who got the cards. Pity to the people who could not get the cards (me too, tried 5 times, gave up, friend gave me few cards). What a good deal with such a shameful operation that left many people frustrated.

Has anyone checked the TCN T&Cs - It looks like there is a limit on the number of cards you can use at JB. It also says you can't use to purchase a JB gift card. I had a problem once before when trying to convert these cards instore at JB

    Here is the link: https://thecardnetwork.com.au/pages/terms-conditions

    • +3

That's a very good point. It does say quite clearly in the T&C's "A maximum of $500 of Cards may be redeemed at JB HiFi (including online) in any one transaction".

Is anyone able to verify this?

      • Couldn’t you buy something from JB and just return it and be issued with a JB gift card as they cannot reload the cards ?

        • Haha, Can anyone confirm this works?

        • Has anyone tried this and does it work? I need to use 7 cards :(

      • Yeah it clearly applies to jb hifi so better buy 5 only

      • +4

JB accepted 6 $100 vouchers when I bought Breville Coffee machine this morning. I bought 6 X $100 HER vouchers (at 15% disc) from Coles using 3% discounted Coles gift cards - Net paid $475, pretty good deal.

        • Hey, can you explain this deal to me please? I want to buy a 3k TV from JB. I can buy these gift cards over the counter at Coles? 6 of the $500 cards? They're 15% off, making it 2550. Then just walk into JB and pay for my purchase with the cards?

          • @jdib: There are no $500 cards. You'd have to buy 30 $100 ones, and find stock.

    • +1

Well that throws a spanner in the works! Only $500 and can’t use to purchase JB gift cards 😞

    • +1

Hold on is that just the T’s & C’s of the EFTPOS gift card?

      • The way I'm reading it, it would seem it applies to the JB HiFi cards, as they outline that: "Certain Cards distributed by THE CARD NETWORK are subject to these purchase limits or restrictions:" with JB HiFi being listed directly under that.

It's super vague in language. But that's my interpretation unless someone can validate otherwise?

        • +1

We kinda need to find out before splurging $1600 on gift cards where we can only use $500 😞

        • not sure what is the current policy, i brought a phone back on May, instore, used 6 gift cards with mixture of jb egift card, ultimate home gift card and other i can not remember. just find out the receipts it shows
          EFTPOS-VISA-MC ONLINE $100
          EFTPOS-VISA-MC ONLINE $100
          EFTPOS-VISA-MC ONLINE $100
          ONLINE GIFT CARD $100
          ONLINE GIFT CARD $ 50
          eGIFT CARD REDEMPTION $149

          total 599

i think even the EFTPOS limit is 500, we can still mix with other sort of gift card, and we are actually still take advantage of the 15% off.

          • @ce5himm: I have used 40+ $100 ultimate home gift cards at once with no problem. I know they are different gift cards than the current deal (different t&c), but I'm just pointing out that there isn't a "eftpos limit"

      • Ignore this looks like the same T’s & C’s for all cards. Looks like you’ve saved us all a lot of running around JKnoch92

      • +3

I bought $1000 of the HER cards and $200 of the HIM cards through the Shopback Gift Card option and used them in one transaction at JB HiFi a week and a half ago. There was a huge drama with the cards not loading into Applepay Wallet properly and it took me four hours to finish the transaction (with no apology or follow-up from TCN), but they worked in the end. I have now learned - from my own experience - that TCN are useless when something goes wrong on their end and they also don’t care. Fair warning.

TL;DR: $1200 HIM/HER cards bought through Shopback worked in one transaction at JB HiFi a week and a half ago.

        • Did Apple Pay aggregate them into one or they are separate? I.e you need to scan it 12 times to redeem them all (assuming 100 denomination)

          • @takuarc: No they are individual. You will have 12 TCN cards in apple wallet. That's how I learned you can only have maxium of 12 cards in Apple wallet. I had to load some on my watch before I go so I don't need to load more card into wallet mid transaction.

        • Was this the physical or digital card?

        • I had the same issue the first time and it turns out it is the network issue - the reception was quite bad.
And second time, I connected to the mall's free wifi, and it was quite smooth. I used all 12 of them.

    • Thank you for that. From previous comments, it seems like some stores don’t know/care about these T&Cs. However, with this sale and stores likely to be flooded with these gift cards, their policy might change. I guess it depends if you’re willing to take the risk or not.
My plan was to get $800 worth of cards to use for a PS5 once it becomes available. Now I think I’m going to pass and maybe get a couple of cards for smaller purchases.

      • when you said some stores did you mean jbhifi stores? anyone got rejected with over $500 in the past?

        • Yes, JB Hifi stores. I’ve never tried myself but other people succeeded in using more than 5 cards or converting them in jb hifi vouchers.

      • Agree. Just like the recent AppleTV4k JB price error, I reckon they'll be OzB-alerted pretty darn quick if not already. But may depend on your local JB staff if clued up!

      • I was hoping to do the same.
Sorry if this is a silly question, isn't it a possibility that you can buy an $800 device by splitting the total payment between $500 worth of gift cards and the rest by cash/card?

    • +2

I think this is pretty essentially information and should be added to the OP. It will prevent some people being stung when trying to use 5+ cards.

    • +2

Hey thanks so much for this… was gonna drop $1.5k+ on these tomorrow but not anymore.

Feel like a mod should pin this to the top of the comments.

    • Just a week ago I combined my 18xjb hi fi gift cards(not from him and her, ect) $100 gift cards into 2. Max amount is $999. Managed to redeem velocity rewards in time before they went bust XD They used gift card to buy gift card :D

      • +1

Did the T&C just get updated? It's amazing that nobody noticed this restriction until a few hours before it went live.

      • JB card is fine, you can do whatever you want. Problem is they hardly discount at 15-20%

        • Price matching would be the move here.

    • I wonder if this is new T&Cs. I used multiple cards during 10% cashrewards deal (all digital TCN cards 2 x $200 Home, $200 Him, $200 Her, $250 JB gc) in JB for iPad last week and pay for the rest of the balance using credit card. It went through without issue.

      • You can use you digital HIM/HER as a normal credit card, and buy jb card on their website

        • These are physical though?

    • +1

JB do change of mind returns. Can't you just buy something for $500 and return it?

    • I think the main difference here is that these are 15% off the physical cards which appear to be EFTPOS cards that cannot be used online. Which is where the terms come in for transactions, and purchasing gift cards. Most people here purchased digital cards (which let you buy gift cards etc).

    • +1

All showered and ready to head out to 4 coles stores… thanks for posting this

      • +2

Also check the last page - there appears to be issues currently atm and some cards are being taken off the shelves.

        • Legend, was still going to try.. looks like I’ll do 5% off through work digital cards

    • I also used $2500 worth of TCN cards on a TV last month. After buying the cards you can choose to transfer them to normal JB gift cards or transfer them to the mastercard option. Also tried with the mastercard to buy JB gift cards on their website and that also worked multiple times.

      • Were these digital or physical cards that you converted?

        • Both I guess, bought as digital, changed some straight away to JB gift cards, others I changed to the eftpos mastercard option (same as physical) then used those to buy $100 JB gift cards online one at a time.

          • @BeerCrisp: If you bought them as digital I don't understand how they can be both? How exactly do you convert a physical TCN GC to a JB GC through JBs site? What details do you need to enter to do that please?

            • @EddieDaHead: These TCN cards come in eftpos mastercard form and can be spent at the listed retailers. As such, you use the card either in store or online to buy JB Hi-Fi gift cards one at a time. You then use these multiple gift cards to purchase the product. That's how I did it at least.

              • +1

@BeerCrisp: could kindly advise on how to do this? i dont understand how u can use these online?

    • I used 12 gift cards with 3 jbhifi gift cards the week before last week in store without any issues.

    • +1

Has this been proven otherwise by anyone? I just called 3 different JB stores and all said there's no limit on the number and/or amount of gift cards we could use.

    • Just bought iphone 12 using these cards onlyat Hoppers. Stocks levels are an issue in vic though

    • Checked the link again - the limit has been removed. Mod/ OP please update post!

  • +6

Nice! Haven't seen Nintendo on sale for a while now. And I think you can pay with Coles GCs if you have the full balance on 1 card - correct me if I'm wrong.

    • +1

Generally at Coles you can't buy gift cards with gift cards from my experience, with the exception for some reason being Bunnings gift cards which are processed differently.

      • +1

Not 100 % true. I bought ultimate giftcards with a coles egiftcard last week.

        • If true then thats surprising, may be a glitch to take advantage of while you can

          • +1

@freoleo: Appears to have been a glitch for many years!

            • @DrRalph: Well I would say a 2 years ago, it was a free for all with gift cards, there were no rules one buying them with each other, then a new system was brought in and it just doesn't work, atleast at my store.

Having said that a new system was brought into assisted checkouts maybe 3 months ago, so maybe thats why you can get away with it on self checkouts

              • @freoleo: For the gift cards, you will have to load them prior to purchase? Can you do it on your own at self-checkouts?

        • +2

This is true. I did it myself. This is part of the reason why I prefer Coles than Woolies. Woolies straight away ban you from paying your groceries flat if you use Woolies gift card to pay and part of your groceries contain gift card.

        • How did you buy GC usinf a GC.

          • Only at self service?
          • Does it need tobuy a grocery together wit hthe GC or can buy Gc alone at and pay at the self service counter?
      • +8

You can use coles gift cards to buy other gift cards, you're just not supposed to. Make sure entire transaction is placed on one gift card and use the self checkouts.
I always use my discounted Coles gift cards to buy netflix cards.

        • Did you do that at self checkout?

          • +2

@takuarc: Yes. If you go through main checkout it should still work, but the person on the register may refuse to do it. Depends on if they give a shit. No one will notice or care through the self checkouts.

            • +13

@DoaAn: This is not 100% correct, I have tried multiple times to put gift card purchases through for other gift cards and the system just simply doesn't allow it, incorrect tender or something similar is usually the error. We aren't trained to not accept gift cards it just simply doesn't work.

If you have found a loophole/glitch then thats great but the staff aren't trying to stop you, you'll actually find it simply doesn't work.

Having said that, this could possibly be store dependant but who knows

              • +2

@freoleo: You just need to buy other groceries at the same time. I've done this many times going through attended checkout. Add a gift card to your normal grocery shop and make sure you have the full amount on the gift card you're paying with. Staff members have never stopped the transaction.

                • @Cliche Guevara: Curious is this egift or physical card or doesbt matter

                  • +1

@Essplicit: Doesnt matter. I have purchased with egiftcard and physical both….

                  • +1

@Essplicit: Either physical or egift - no problems either way. I use the Stocard App to store the egift cards.

              • +1

@freoleo: Freoleo, you sure you work at Coles and not Woolworths? This 100% works at every Coles store I've tried it at. And has worked for at least 5 years!

                • +1

@DrRalph: which coles do you normally go to? just curious as I tried at my local and it didn't work. apparently the ones with the new systems dnt allow it

                • +5

@DrRalph: He is right in a situation that if the purchase item is a Coles related own giftcard, e.g. Coles Group & Myer.

You can always pay a 3rd Party giftcard by Coles eGC/GC.

Now Zip 3% cashback is way to go, save the hassle of using eGC and enjoy the same or better benefits.

Coles eGC on Suncorp 3% off plus CC pts if yours have. Pay off Zip Pay by a CC also earn you pts and with up to 110+ days interest free.

                  • @Neoika: Thanks so much for this Neoika! I'll be a first time user for zip and I just realised how much I've been missing out.

        • Are we able to partly pay with flybuy dollars?

        • How do you get discounted Coles gift card though?

        • Brisbane based - have never been able to buy gift card with discount coles gift cards either physical or electronic, even if buying other groceries at the same time at self-checkouts. Maybe others have been luckier.

          • @eek: Which GC have you tried. I've never had a problem with fixed amount cards.

        • How do we get discounted Coles gift cards?

          • @yanlianglee: I get them from RACT e-card site. Most stores I buy from regularly have discounted cards on there. The discounts cover the cost (some years double the cost) of the annual membership fee.

          • @yanlianglee: Most of the banks marketplace. Macquarie, Suncorp and AGL rewards, etc.

      • +1

2 weeks ago the gf got one of those coles and myers group gift card from work ($500). We were able to buy other gift cards over the counter and self serve. But yeah, full balance on one card.

    • +1

Pro-tip, get TCN gift card, then get JB Hifi to pricematch the Nintendo cards. Use TCN gift card to buy the discount eShop card at JB.

Though, I did encounter one JB that wouldn't pricematch the eShop card. The first JB I went to did, despite the arrogant attitude of the games staff. His supervisor set him straight about pricematching.

  • +18

Him / Her / Teen = 15% of JB hifi

      • +13

        “Them” ;-)

        • -1

          'Thou'

    • Looks that way and should be printed on the cards themselves…

Question is can I get multiples…

shame I can't use coles gift card to buy gift card.. :/

      • +6

The sign says limit 5 cards per customer. Multiply further by bringing hat, sunglasses and fake moustache.

    • the kids card as well. in store use only.

    • Can I use it to buy Apple products or are they excluded?

      • +2

A gift card is basically treated as cash / eftpos etc in store, you can spend it on anything you like.

    • +4

15% off new consoles, Apple etc is a very nice and rare discount!

      • +13

And if you can wait for JB's usual 10% off Apple Computers deal then that's even better.

    • Kids aswell for jb hifi

    • can it be used in stacks?

  • +1

Great find! Better than cashbacks! Will this be nationwide?

  • +1

May I ask what device you used to take the photo? It looks really nice.

    • +7

Thanks. I used Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 12 Pro Max 512GB.

  • +12

Should be able to price match the Google Play Card at Officeworks to get 19.25% off also :)

    • Does anyone know if Officeworks sells Nintendo eShop cards for a possible price beat?

    • Just did this over the phone. Thanks Doweyy! OW only stock the $50 gc apparently.

Notes for those playing at home:
      - Call 1300633423
      - Product code for the $50 gc is BLGOOGPL50
      - Tell them to price beat the Coles catalogue (pg 6).
I was told the limit for price beat is 3 GC but ymmv

      • where do you use Google Play card apart from Google Eco system.. can we use for Netflix or JB etc?

      • I just tried over the phone and was told that as it would be an "online purchase" what ever that means… they wont match on the phone.

I even asked what would happen if I physically went into OW (to make it non-online), she of course couldn't advise what would happen then…

        Sigh.

  • Unbelievable!!!!!

  • -1

    I am in.

  • Wow, is this on the actual in store stand/display?

I have never seen the supermarkets pre-advertise a sale item? Could be a bit confusing for some as the fine print is quite small. Then again you could probably get someone in store to approve the discount if they couldn't care less.

    • Then again you could probably get someone in store to approve the discount if they couldn't care less.

I wouldn't bet on it, a lot of the time the system will just deny it.

  • Nice. I was recently considering grabbing another NSO voucher pass for some new games too. Combined with this will be even better :D

  • Does Ebgames price match Eshop cards?

Could theoretically by the Him card at 15% off then price match and buy the eshop at EBGames at 15% off

Would need Eb to price match and then for them to accept gift card payment with gift cards

EDIT: NVM it doesn't do EB, swear I saw in store today that one of them did

    • 'Ultimate Student' card has EB on it. I rarely see them as part of these promotions =(

    • -1

+1 for this question but with JB price matching eshop cards instead.

  • +1

    Finally, 15% off the JB!

    • +5

I just bought 2k jb gift cards at 7% off, rip

    • Where does it say JB? Is it part of the Him gift card?

    • +1

It looks like you can only use instore - on their website you can't exchange for a JB voucher

      • +1

You can exchange it for JB voucher. I did it yesterday. You can convert the voucher online from TCN's website to JB Hi-Fi and then use them to buy a single amount JB Hi-Fi gift card, if you are buying multiple.

        • Means we can bring 10x$100 gc and swap with 2x$500 at JB hifi store with No hassle ?

        • only "HOME" card

        • How do you do this? I can't see anywhere to redeem it for an e-voucher

          • +1

@whitelie: When I received the gift card in the PDF file the had the link to it and it asked my which retailer I want to use the card and I selected JB Hi-Fi and they worked as a gift card there and then you can buy anything, even a single gift card. I think there is a limit on number of gift card in one transaction which is I guess 5 or 8. I had him gift card and the also worked just fine.

            • @012noob: Is that just a digital card though? Does it work the same for a physical card?

        • What is tcn? Link?

  • Could I use the him card to buy iPhone 12 in JBHIFI?
And how many cards can I use?

    • I think you can use 14 $100 GC to purchase the 128g iphone 12. As the limit is 5 cards pp, you probably need to visit 3 coles.
But this will bring down the price from 1429 to 1214.
The $500 JB GC offer from Telstra could make a better price

      • +3

Not quite true. Buying gc at 15% discount does not require you to sign up a 80gb plan with Telstra at the full price of $59/m for 12 months.

      • So it’s confirm we can use 12x$100 gc to buy iphone $1200 price at jb hifi ?
Or we need to swap those 12x$100 to 2x$500 gc at jb hifi store and after that use it to buy $1200 iphone with 2x$500 gc after swap and 2x$100 tcn gc ?

        • I think you have to spent $1190( to buy 14*$100 gc) + $29 to buy the phone in jbhifi

    • sure you can.
buy enough to cover the cost of your 12

    • So it’s confirm we can use 12x$100 gc to buy iphone $1200 price at jb hifi ?
Or we need to swap those 12x$100 to 2x$500 gc at jb hifi store and after that use it to buy $1200 iphone with 2x$500 gc after swap and 2x$100 tcn gc ?

    • +1

Just be aware of the GC limit at JB. I believe it used to be max 5 per transaction.

      • If that 5 jb hifi gift cards or 5 for him gift cards?

        • I think OP was referring to JB Hifi gift cards.

BUT. Note that you'd have to convert your HIM gift cards to JB Hifi gift cards prior to using at JB. At least that was how it worked with the digital GCs from TCN. I don't see how the physical ones would be any different.

I must add that I made an online purchase of an iPhone 12 Pro a month ago with 10x JB Hifi GCs. The GC limit could very well be an in-store limit.

EDIT: Or OP could be talking about the maximum GCs you can purchase in a single transaction at Coles.

    • Yes you can. I just did with no issues.

      • How though? The terms and conditions outline a limit of $500 per single transaction.

        • Oh I was referring to the digital HIM cards. You can do it with that.

Didn't realise these HIM cards were in-store only.

  • +2
