    10GB or 60GB?

  • +1

    catch connect is awesome.

    came from telstra to optus.

in my area (inner melbourne suburbs) telstra was only 1 to 2 bars of reception.

switched ported today to catch optus, now i get full 5 bars reception.

$9.80 month unlim calls/text on $120 per month plan with cashrewards.

saved myself $660 per year on whatever i want to use than a $400 gift card. highly recommend to anyone.

However coles mobile has the better deal, identical + unlim international calls

    • Some reviews of this service to be a "Data Grabber" meaning that users that don't necessarily spend lets say 5gb/mth and with catch, it could balloon up to double or more gigs. Can you shed some light through your experience if this is true or not.

      • +3

absolutely not true. automatic updates and other garbage apps and their settings will do that to you.
people have no idea what are they doing with their phones and of course its best to blame someone else = your provider.
catch has nothing to do with this

        • -3

Targeting a 60gb data per year plan to unistudents is borderline scammy. This is a plan best suited for senior citizens.

          • +10

@t_c: That's a big leap. My uni life was spent on campus or at home - both with high speed wifi coverage all over. I drove to uni every day (very poor public transport access for me) so no usage in transit. I barely used data then and I still barely use it.

      • Back in the day Amaysim used to charge people in 1MB increments, not sure how much it is for Catch, but it could be a similar problem. Their T&C should outline this.

    • Wish that was the case for Sydney. Telstra network is superb here. Optus not so. So I'd have to stick with Telstra if I want a reliable network.

      • I wish that I had your Sydney reception. Where I am, not far from Hurstville, Telstra is shocking. Fortunately my phone switches to wifi calling at home because I regularly drop back to 3G or no data all (unless I go out the front door and stand on the front footpath). My whole house has excellent Optus and Voda coverage though.

        • +2

Agreed. Wife has Boost, I have Optus, there is NO difference in the signal strength. It really varies according to your specific location. Saying "Sydney" doesn't cut it.

          • @nafe: At home, what speeds are you getting with each service. Just wondering the difference.

            • +1

@Volution: Honestly it varies day to day! I've tested my Optus one at work in North Ryde and over 250mbit down. At home its anything from 10-80! The Boost one I checked when we got it (switched from Optus funnily enough) and it was similar numbers. It's just where our house is I suspect.

      • I am in Sydney and drive to different suburbs for work.
I used to have Optus (Amaysim & Catch Connect) and Vodafone (Kogan) before. Now I am with Telstra (Boost). I find I get more issues with Telstra than I used to have with Optus & Vodafone.

        • Really? Are the suburbs you drive to more rural out urban?

  • +4

The Ts & Cs are confusing. It says "You must activate your chosen prepaid plan on catchconnect.com.au within 30 days of purchase or by the date advertised on the promotion (whichever is earlier). Additionally, you must activate your Catch Connect SIM card within 24 months of purchase, otherwise the SIM card will be cancelled and any credit associated with it will be forfeited. "

So if I buy this starter pack, I can activate it within 2 years? or do I have to active it within 30 days of buying it? I have a second SIM on Belong that I want to switch out to this once my remaining credit runs out (probably still another 3 months away…)

    • +1

I'd like to know the answer to this too as I won't need to activate this until just after the new year.

    • It's a contradiction

    • +3

My understanding as a current Catch connect customer is
      - Activate within 30 days: $89 (less discounts)
      - Activate within 31 days-24 months: $120 (less discounts)

Source: didn't activate a $4.90 SIM in time and now it wants to charge me $49.90 to activate.

    • +4

I asked them about this and they said you must activate within 24 months, after which the credit will be wiped out. However, they recommend activating within 30 days as the offer T&Cs might change (and if it does change they will inform the customer).

  • +5

You'd be better to use a catch gift card (currently 8% off via Suncorp) for an instant saving rather than cash rewards.

  • I thought this was 60 GB a month plan ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚.

    • Your new years resolution could be self control by using 5gb per month under this new service LOL

    • With the lockdown coming your way you won't need your 4G. Enjoy your NBN data :))

  • FYI, you need to be 18 years or older to create an account and/or transfer to Catch Connect - I've just enquired. No good for my kids' phones which are in their names, unfortunately. Hope this info helps others. Kogan Mobile and I think Boost allow under 18 accounts. Any others Ozbargainers know of?

    • We just put the kids' phones in my name. Once they turn 18, sign a "change of ownership" form and away you go. 1 on Belong $10 1Gb per month (can't manage data), 1 on this one, and 1 on Boost $150.

  • +3

UGH. guess who JUST ordered it at $99 without the UNidays discount?

    • ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ

    • Cease your membership with us immediately.

  • Does anyone know if we get to pick a number?

Also is there an android widget that allows for real time data usage monitoring?

    • +1

      No you cant pick number.

I use glasswire on my burner Android to monitor usage

    • You can pick a number with amaysim, once that sim arrives activate it, then port over to catch!

      • That's an idea! How much is it to do that and can this be done online?

        • +2

Yes it can be done online. You just get the cheapest Amaysim plan (right now it's $5 for 28 days). Give it a go before you actually sign up. It's free to try the steps listed below:

          • select a plan, the first page will ask you if you want to keep your number or get a new one:
          • select "get a new number"
          • select "pick a different one"
          • enter up to 5 consecutive numbers, like 22344, and see what comes up (do this until you find one that you like)

Note: most are free, but some are considered premium (like 444, 555, etc) and will cost $30

    • +1

      real time data usage monitoring

Not a widget, but it should be in settings under "data usage". That's real time enough for me. I've got a 5GB limit set but don't go out enough anymore to hit it. By the time I am I'll have significant data banked.

  • +1

So the best price can get is: $80.1 with Unidays and pay with Catch egift card (8% discount) = $73.7

    • Can't use Catch egift cards - found out too late - from the Ts and Cs:

      1. Gift Cards cannot be used to purchase Catch Connect services.
      • +3

You can use catch gift cards if you purchase the Sim from catch.com.au not catchconnect.com.au…did it yesterday

        • Thanks - just tried it and it worked…!

  • I ordered that twice and each time never got the stock, shown as dispatched on the day I ordered, in the end had to cancel and reorder, not sure why it is, I am in Brisbane.

  • Is the New customer definition same as Telstra i.e. 30 days with another provider?

  • +1

I'm pretty happy with boost. Network is very reliable. The competition is getting cheaper and cheaper nowadays so it's tempting.

    • Kind of wish I had not been a tightass and stuck with Boost instead.
The speed with Optus/Catch is noticeably slower (ex Telstra customer).

      • I'm with boost and thinking of switching either with catch or coles. Now you make me not wanna do it. Thanks for the reminder.

      • I have been having the opposite experience.

  • Iโ€™ll get it for my grandparents

  • +3

I'm trapped with CatchConnect. Each time I try to port-out the process fails and they refuse to say why- canโ€™t 'due to privacy'.

No idea what they are referring to - all details appear to be correct - they refuse to take it any further.

Had to give-up and just buy more credit from them - probably part of their customer retention policy.

    • +3

If you really want to port out just mention TIO. And if they still refuse after that then contact TIO. They would be very happy to assist you

    • I had the same problem with the Mrs's number.
Tried to port out of catch to kogan.
Called Kogan said it is being denied and to call catch. They re-tried.
Called Catch - they said there has been no request
Called Kogan - they asked if the number was still active - which is a definite yes. They tried again, and I told them I spoke to Catch.
Called Catch - they said there was no request
Called Kogan - they passed it to their tech for investigation
Next day - credit expired from Catch - number still active. Had to renew - need the phone number

3 days later - Kogan still hadn't ported the number.

Overall - bad experience with catch and kogan playing ping pong even though there were two bad serves

      • I had a similar experience a few weeks back porting from Catch to Kogan. Didn't go through, even though details were correct.
I ended up buying a $2 Telstra sim, ported from Catch to Telstra (using same details), then from Telstra to Kogan. Two step process took 15-20mins

  • +1

Figures, I literally just purchased this minutes before they reduced the price.

  • +2

    Can I get an E-sim ?

    • Can anyone confirm this? I searched but couldnโ€™t find anything on their site

  • +1

Be careful if you want to travel overseas and continue to receive SMS messages while you are in other countries within a year.

International roaming is no longer available to Catch.

    https://catchconnect.com.au/home/page/travel-International-rโ€ฆ

    • It's cheaper to use local country sim anyway, and hotels have wifi.

    • Hope international travel will be open this time next year…

  • Terrible catch. I have been a loyal customer on 54GB/90 days for $89. Now only realize they have this 60GB/90 days for only $60 plan. They will never inform you and keep charging you for the more expensive and less data plan. Until you personally talk to them to switch plan.. wth

  • how is this $80.10 with unidays? I got it for $70.10 with my unidays code

n/m apparently I had $10 store credit I never knew about

  • Catch doesn't support wifi calling though, does anyone know if that is correct?

  • Does anyone know if it's still slow to port from Optus to Catch Connect? Thanks.

    • Did a port from Amaysim (Optus Network) to Catch last night (previously had issues switching between Optus MVNO's before) expecting having to chase it up but the phone had dropped out on the old provider in the morning and popped the new SIM in and away it went

      • Awesome! Thanks for sharing!

  • When does this deal end? Do we have to jump on this now?

  • +1

Just want to share positive experience porting out from Aldi Mobile to Catch Connect.
I did it this afternoon and it was done in minutes - cannot be more than 5 minutes and it was done.
    I am very impressed.

  • This is actually sold on catch.com.au so might have 4.2% cashback?

  • I think Coles (Optus too) had a similar deal to this for $90? down from $120.

Difference is unused data on that deal can rollover, but I don't know about the comparison for those who actually make international calls rather than whatsapp.

  • +1

Thanks to OP and to @HoneyB. Picked a number for $5 and paid $73.70 for the deal after using 8% eGC! Comes up to $6.50/mth for the next 12 mths which is awesome value!

  • Damm I think I did this wrong, I paid $99 via cashrewards link so i make $3.50 from cash rewards but paid $10 more. =[

  • Ordered last week on Wednesday and still haven't received shipping notification. Anyone get an email about their order being shipped?

    • Ordered 18/11 as well
Still nothing although the order confirmation email says will order willleave warehouse in 5-7 business days so hopefully just wait few more days

  • Just got it in the mail and ported from vodafone, pretty painless probably took less than 10 mins all up to pop the new SIM in and start using it. Paper work says the card "must be activated within 24 months of purchase…"

  • Now 15.00% cash back i think

  • Ordered when this was posted but yet to receive it. Anyone in the same situation?

    • yeah still nothing received nor any notification it has even been sent

    • Yep, same here. Contacted support today and they said it was still at the warehouse and expect another 5-8 business days to receive it after dispatch. Not impressed.

      • Raised a ticket about a week ago. They finally responded saying it was shipped on 2 Dec but could still take 5-8 businessddays.

Almost a month for a sim card to arrive… Yeah but impressed

  • Same here ……ordered 19 November ………..eventually shipped today …….who knows when it will arrive!

  • what's with the slow shipping?
