  • Hopefully my points transfer over to take advantage of this.

    • -3

Hopefully the airline will stay afloat long enough to use the points after they transfer across…

      • I like those odds. Transferring as we speak.

        • Good luck…

      • It's a national carrier and it won't be allowed to go bust. The question is, given the limited number of flights and the travel restrictions, will your miles expire before you can claim them?

        • You have until November or December 2023 and given that they're upgrading all their A380 with new biz and first class products it'll be well worth it for me.

        • It's a national carrier and it won't be allowed to go bust.

That's what they said about Pan Am, Swissair, Olympic Airways…

Been a long time since I’ve seen an offer like this. If you’re transferring from Amex you can get much better value redemptions on SQ than on QF and VA.

    • +3

Don’t think there’s ever been a transfer bonus from Krisflyer at all.

  • +2

I guess this is only good if i see myself flying overseas in the next 2 years…?

    • Doubt there'll be much international travel in 2021.

  • SQ miles expire after 3 years

    • normally yes, but expirations are currently suspended due to covid.

      • +1

        i don't know about that.
        i have to check now.

they said to me, earlier this year,
that because of COVID they delayed the expiry dates.

since, the aviation industry is stagnant into 2021 too,
i think they even suspend all expiries, but i have not even bothered to look at the T&Cs now.

Thank you for your email to Singapore Airlines.

Please note that KrisFlyer miles will expire after three years at 23:59 hours Singapore time (GMT +08:00 hours) on the last day of the equivalent month in which they were earned.

Further to your inquiry, we wish to share that if you have KrisFlyer miles expiring between April 2020 and June 2021, it will be extended by six months .

While for KrisFlyer miles expiring beyond June 2021, we will continue to monitor the situation and timely updates will be provided to the affected members.

The extended validity of your expiring KrisFlyer miles will be reflected in member's account progressively, at the end of each month, before the miles expire.

You may refer to the link below for more info.

Thank you for writing to us and we look forward to being of service to you again.

      • Miles transferred under this promo will expire in Dec 2023. You have to use it before then or lose your miles. Too risky for me.

        • Where did you check that?

          • @nightelves: Don't the SQ miles have a 3 year validity period before they expire?

            • @squarepants: Yeah they do.

              • @nightelves: Suppose that's how capslock came up with the Dec 2023 expiry if you transferred during this promo.

                • @squarepants: Yeap November or December 2023.

                  • @nightelves: Yep, pretty good promotion considering KF almost never do any bonus points transfers.

Unfortunately i have a bunch of KF points that are ticking down already, so i probably won't transfer my AMEX ones, as those don't expire, but might do the ANZ ones so i can close the ANZ card.

    • Yes and no.

SQ have a shrewd way of expiring member's miles.

SQ calculates the birth/death of points, "per tranche".

      e.g.
      Your miles balance = ZERO

2021 JAN — You get 30,000 SQ miles.

So, your balance now is 30,000

2023 JUN — You get 20,000 SQ miles

Your balance (at 6/2023) is 50,000 SQ miles

So, you have between 2023 JUN - JAN 2024,
to make a booking with those 50,000 SQ miles as a total,
because 30,000 out of 50,000 points will expire on JAN 2024 .

  • Ah bugger, transferred a couple hundred thousand points from St George about a fortnight ago…

    • How long did it take for St George to credit the bonus points?

      • They were pretty quick I think, maybe a few business days

        • Ok so the system system is different to BoM then because I'm still waiting for the 130k Amplify Rewards to come through. Thought it would be the same system.

  • with SQ Krisflyer points, you can code-share with other StarAlliance partners (and Virgin Airlines too).

so, it's just a matter of working out the 15% boost at first,
and then working out which airline could be favourable for the code-shares.

    • +3

Codeshare is only for revenue tickets.
You cannot use your miles on a codeshare ticket, only on the primary airline code.

So, for example, if you buy a ticket with your credit card, you can fly VA (Virgin Australia) as the operating carrier but under SQ flight number (SQ XXXX) as the marketing carrier.

For miles tickets, you can only use your miles on the operating carrier flight number. So if you want to fly VA (Virgin), VS (Virgin Atlantic) or LH (Lufthansa), it's possible but no codeshares can be redeemed., So no, SQ XXXX on VA, VS, LH and etc, just VA XXX, VS XXX or LH XXX

      • +1

        Agreed.

I was meaning that in the booking system,
when choosing points as method of payment,
you can still choose flights that served by other airline partners,
ie. points can still be used to redeem flights that are not served by SQ.

Not seeing the bonus on my Citi Rewards page. Good time to transfer my 500k reward points from the Citibank CC bonus points couple years back!

    • +1

Think you see the bonus after the points come across. That how it happens in past transfers.

      • Thanks sounds good.

  • +1

I just transferred all citibank points (200k) to krisflyer last week and closed the credit card!

  • I don't see any mention of the bonus points on AMEX portal nor did I get the email.
