    Question re: jumpstarting. I've been asked to go and try to start a mates diesel SUV that has been sitting unused for 6 months (he is stuck abroad). Apart from getting a new battery, would one of these devices be any better than using jump leads attached to my car? I dont think the battery was in great shape before he left so it might be a lost cause but I said I'd try.

      Edit: Yes, either method is fine.

      For long term, you're better off with one of these plugged in if it's parked in a garage with a power source.

      I don't see any issue with using your car to jumpstart, so long as it's convenient to get the cars close enough etc. Both ways will do the same job.

      If it is a big Diesel engine make sure the jumper leads are rated for lots of current and that your battery is also.

      If the battery is almost dead flat a passenger hatchback size petrol engine won’t be able to cut it.

    Have this one, it's good. Paid $89.69 for it on 24/05/20 and it arrived in a couple of days to ACT.

    Carry bag feels cheap, but the body itself feels very premium.
    Charges quickly via wall plug at 18W via type c, and can qc phone at 18W via type c or one of the type a's. I believe the 2000A model only does 15W - 5V3A.

    Also has a 15V10A barrel jack output that could be used to run things such as fans or compressors @12-15V with a ciggarette socket adaptor - gooloo sells one, but others can be had on amazon for only a few bucks.

    Can start my 2017 Lancer (2.0L) with battery disconnected.

    I keep mine in the spare wheel well inside the spare, where it stays cooler than the cabin, and it has kept a charge ok and not overheated - your mileage may vary depending on weather (I am in ACT - QLD for example you might be a bit wary of leaving it in the car permanently).

      Be careful with the other brand 15v/10a barrel jack, I bought one for $2 and didnt realise the polarity was reversed, ended up wrecking the device I plugged in due to this. Its only a blown fuse but SMD fuse which are rare/hard to find and harder to replace (soldered on).
      You can of course get the cheap one, chop the wires and reverse polarity to correct the issue, but its a pain.

          I got Gooloo branded one but you can probably get the same cable on aliexpress for $2 lol. $20 is rip off. Female Cig lighter to 3.5mm converter should be the name.

          Im not 100% sure about the 3.5mm part but it is like market standard.

              @zealmax: Whats the wattage of the light? It is rated 12V/10A but I wouldnt draw 10A for extended periods.

              50-60W contunious draw should be OK.

              Edit: even if you want you cant draw 10A for extended period you can't. It will flat the battery pretty quick lol. (<2hrs)

      Place it in the boot in the spare tyre well.

      Recommended to check battery levels every 3-6months or prior to a big trip. But it will hold charge for a year.

      Yes, batteries suffer greatly in heat.

      I'd recommend putting it in a closed off section such as the boot of a sedan, as well as getting one of those windscreen sunshades (the foldable circular one's are the best) to keep the interior temperatures down somewhat, I find it helpful in bringing the car's interior down from boiling hot, to comfortably warm in the summer sun.

      Nonetheless, I've stowed away the jumpstarter in it's carry case, kept it at around 75% charge, and kept it in a closed off section in the car where there's no sun, as well as using the sunshade, and it has been very good to me in return.

      It's a shame that alot of battery pack sellers don't provide these tips as they can really help the life of the battery

    Mixed review for the 1200A model I got a couple of months ago. I used it just 2 weeks ago while on holiday so I'm glad I had it with me. However, the clamp broke while taking it out of the bag!! Had to use zip ties and stick through the centre to hold it in place. I'm clumsy but the clamps are made of cheap plastic so take care. As luck would have it, the return window closed a day before I got back. Still trying to return it though.

          It depends why you need to use it too. If your car was working fine, only has a flat battery, and will start easy/fast if the battery were ok, then this will do. But if you've flooded the engine, have a broken ignition lead, or some other problem that requires continuous cranking to get it to eventually start and limp home, then these can leave you just as stranded (after a few attempts they're drained).

          There's a 'better' type that has supercapacitors instead of batteries. You connect it to the car battery, and even a dying one will slowly charge up the capacitors in a few minutes. Then you release all that stored energy back in a burst to start the car. The idea being you can do that over and over a bunch of times, where the battery one needs to be recharged later at home. They cost about 4+ times the price though.

          Tbh I'd rather have a set of quality (thick) jumper leads with a surge protection device (or both). You don't have to remember to check cables are charged every few months. And few people get caught with a flat battery with no other cars around. Ask someone for a jump start using that type of cable (they protect the electrics of the other car), and most people are fine helping out. If not, ask the next person.

            I just wanted a extra backup - incase no one was around and I couldn’t be bothered waiting for Roadside to turn up.

              @JayManic: Yeah I might even get one of these one day. I just find it difficult to put my trust in something with a tiny battery to always be ready and work when needed. (I can just bet I'd use it to help several people in a supermarket, but the one time it REALLY needs to work, when there's no other option and I've come to rely on it, it breaks/doesn't work.)

      I had the 1200A and got the 2000A, the rating is the maximum on paper. However sitting in the car the battery will discharge over time, and it will lose capacity with heat and the more you charge and discharge it. So it might only be at 50% when you go to use it, then there's the torch and powerbank function.

      So you dont have to own a V10 for the extra capacity to be beneficial.

    This is a great price. I bought the 1200A model for roughly this price.

    For reference I used the 1200A model to start my 5.7L V8 Commodore. Which also has a 1500 Watt Amplifier which isnt getting pushed on start but it does turn on at ignition with the headunit so it adds a small amount of load.

    Another factor is that my battery was completely dead when I got it to start my car. Additionally once I got it started I borrowed a trickle charger to charge it fully and tested the battery.

    TLDR; my battery needed replacing. So if the 1200A model can cold and dead start my V8 with a cactus battery then chances are the 1500A will start whatever you have. An absolutely must have IMO. Way better than keeping jumper cables in the boot and actually takes up less room.

        It works better if you jump start without your cars alternator - Use your jump starter that you have stowed carefully away from the sunlight.

          anyway, in all seriousness, the jump starter is a quick solution in what would otherwise be a time costly situation, you forget the lights on or your friend is playing music while the car is in Accessory mode for 30 mins only to find your battery dead, the jump starter will solve this problem in 2 mins no matter where you are, the smart battery charger is just there to either maintain the battery's level while you don't use your car for months or if you've recently had a dead battery and you're at home and you've got an extra 30 mins.

          I'm usually 50/50 on my batteries dying at home vs away from home
