Not just satay chicken, seems the whole range.
    Edit: post has been updated.

So far the only one I rate are the meatballs, whereas I found the pizza range horrible. What do others recommend?

    • +3

      Portuguese chicken was decent

    • Agree the pizza range is beyond horibble

    • +8

Deep South Beef Chilli is yum!

    • +1

Agree, pizza range is straight up disgusting. Their Moroccan lamb feels like they just squirted a bolognese paste on top of a pizza base blergh

    • +1

      dang 22g sugars on balls

  • +2

The one i want is the BODYBUILDER.

All the others have too mamy carbs, unless you want the crap seismic chicken or naked chicken.

Still purchased $500 worth though. Just waiting on the new freezer before i order more.

    • +29

Farout, do you not cook at home?

      • +2

        beefcake >_<

      • +6

I don’t think he cooks anywhere

      • Yes. But the whole family hits the gym.

That $500 is about 2 weeks worth.

I normally go through nearly 2kg of chicken/beef etc per day. I buy in bulk direct from Steggles.

  • Yeah no good unless you're weight lifting??

    • +5

Not true. I know plenty of people who buy these on sale. Not everyone are weight lifters.

You don't need to be a weight lifter to eat healthy.

I bought around $300 as I stock up when these are on sale.

      • +3

Same. I'm too busy to cook and these are tasty, quick and nutritious.

Looking forward to trying the new meals that have been released since the last sale.

      • +1

You don't need to be a weight lifter to eat healthy.

My sides. The thought that freezer and pre-prepared meals like this constitute "healthy eating" is hilarious.

        • +5

Define Healthy then, calling a food healthy is a massive buzz word and doesn't really mean anything.

You have macro nutrients, carbs, protein, fats.

You have micro nutrients, all your vitamins and other little things.

If you have a diet that reaches your required amounts of your macro nutrients, while giving you enough micronutrients.

Then in my mind, that is a healthy balanced diet.

          • @RocketPhantom: It’s a healthier and cheaper option. Yes I could make my own but this does me. But for the ease and price I’m not complaining. It contains all the necessary nutrients I need.

My Basal metabolic rate is between 1600-1750cal. So eating 3-4 meals puts in the ball park where I need to be. To maintain. Add a few healthy snacks in between and in conjunction with intermittent fasting. I went from 75kg 22% body fat to 65kg and 11.9% in 6 weeks.

        • Here's a list of ingredients for one of the meals:

Lean Beef Mince (28%), Chilli Sauce (Tomato, Onion, Tomato Paste, Sugar, Water, Canola Oil, Garlic, Worcestershire Sauce, Thickener (1422) , Herbs, Spices, Vegetable Protein Extract, Xanthan Gum), Kidney Beans, Rice, Green Beans.

It's literally beef and kidney beans with rice and green beans in a standard chilli sauce.

The meal includes a mix of lean protein from animal and vegetable sources, legumes, and vegetables. It provides around 40g each of protein and carbohydrates, 8g of fat and 10g of sugar and 415 calories.

          What's the problem?

        • +1

That’s what meal preppers do. I make healthy meals and freeze them: I make 20 meals on a Sunday and freeze the ones I won’t be using until the end of the week.

The only difference with youfoodz is someone else cooks and delivers the meals. Gives me extra time to socialise with friends and family.

    • +4

That's just marketing, they're a decent substitute if you CBF cooking for a night or need something extra.

      • +3

So I don't need a six pack abs to eat this?

        • +1

It pairs well with a pale ale.

    • Plenty of providers out there that isnt for weightlifters, most suit people looking for healthier options:
      https://www.mealprep.com.au/providers/

  • Is there a link to the macro break down on these?

  • +14

I grabbed majority of their selection during a sale they had - couple boxes of their meals delivered came to about $4 a pop.

Don't touch their pizza range, its exactly what the others are saying, their pizza range is rubbish.

I don't know about how much people eat here but if you eat more than the average person like I do, supplement it with some fruit or protein shake (half of 1 serving)

    Here's my take on the ones I've tried (Rough scale 5/10 shit | 6.5 Average | 8/10 above average/good

    Satay Chicken - 6.5/10
    - This one is okay, your average satay chicken
    - The chicken sometimes tastes a bit funny
    Deep south chilli - 8/10
    - Personally enjoy this one as a frozen meal, sweet potato is nice and a good change up instead of white rice if you eat these on rotation
    - nothing to complain about here
    Seismic Chicken - 5/10
    - Tastes healthy (shit), its not honey flavoured at all really, I just have this with pepper, it helps with my suicidal tendencies when eating this
    - Ideal for hardcore chicken breast lovers that watch the shit out of their macros
    Smokey mountain meatball - 8/10
    - Sweet and Smokey, This ones good for a box meal
    - Meatballs aren't dry which is good
    Portuguese Chicken - 8/10
    - This one is good, the chicken can taste a little funny at times

    • +2

Why did you give something an 8/10 rating and then follow it up with "chicken can taste a little funny at times"?

      • +5

        Maybe they like funny chicken?

I didn't realise pepper helped with suicidal tendencies myself. Gonna keep it in mind next time someone's in a pinch

        • +2

          I like funny chicken

    • I find that Core Powerfoods range is a bit like playing lotto. Occasionally they taste good. But, most of the time they are just ok enough to eat if you don't care too much about taste/flavour.

  • This nationwide?

  • Poor quality package, I remeber a good part being broken or open in the store freezer when they launched it in February, not sure if they replace it since.

  • +8

Didn't these have an outbreak of salmonella?

    • +1

good thing I bought mostly beef

    • +18

maybe it explains why the chicken tasted funny to the previous guy

    • 46 *cases were found, hopefully they have better standards in place

    • +4

Had to Google it. Recalled best before March to October 2020. So many cases, and recent as well. Was keen on buying a bunch of these, but that doesn't exactly inspire confidence…

    • +11

Didn't realise they had a salmon one.

  • These are so overpriced usually but some are decent tasting, always on the lookout for the 1/2 price deal. Thnx OP.

  • +4

I don't know what everyone has against the pizzas, they taste pretty good IMO and have excellent macros. Obviously, it's a different taste to other pizzas but it's nice.

    • +2

Same I didn't mind them and tasted pretty good for a frozen pizza. Now I'm questioning my tastes in frozen meals.

    • +2

Good to see I'm not the only one. Currently have several of them in the freezer. They are pretty good IMO.

    • +1

The Pizzas were my favourite type of Core's meals. The dough was a bit inconsistent, but otherwise alright.

  • Thanks OP. This will be my first time trying Core Powerfoods, wish me luck!

  • Just went down and bought 10. Unfortunately they didn't have a wide selection though.

  • My local colez will be sold out by tomorrow

    • EDIT: Nevermind

  • Thanks OP.

  • +1

So I just bought a bunch of these and tried the satay chicken."7 mins on high from frozen, rest for 2 mins". I can safely say I've never eatan such dry and hard chicken and such soft and overcooked beans. Going to try and defrost them overnight and heat for 2 minutes which hopefully helps otherwise very disappointed with the first meal lol.

    • +1

yeah, not sure why these have long microwaving cooking … other frozen meals only requires 3 mins

    • Maybe it's their way of covering their asses after the salmonella outbreak they had. Have people overcook their meals just to be on the safe side lol

    • Can anyone else comment on their experiences with the suggested heating time?

Sounds like a ridiculously long time for something which I assume is already partially cooked if not fully before freezing

      • +1

Just defrost overnight , 2.30 min microwave works fine.

  • +1

Beef is good, both lean and Smokey versions, I mean it’s not how grandma makes them but it’s decent taste/macros

  • +1

Does anyone know how often these go on sale at Coles? Their sales in general seem fairly regular and cyclic but I’ve never looked at this product in particular. My partner has gotten into these meals lately and it would be good to know when we should stock up!

    • I've never seen them half price before. It's anyone's guess now as they are probably trying to save their reputation. Might be lots of sales and/or rebranding. Who knows.

    • Would be good to know whether to stock up now before the catalogue specials change on Wednesday

  • The ones that i really want are My Muscle Chef. The Macros are really good.
