Just buy a 'refurb' from Apple directly. Cheaper, and even if you want non-standard specs, you'll usually find what you want after waiting a few days.
Saved a few hundred buying my last one that way.
How often do these pop up, my daughter is after an Air but would rather get her this Pro refurb for $1700 - https://www.apple.com/au/shop/product/FXK32/refurbished-133-…
There's no real guarantee but i was after a macbook air with double the standard RAM and GBs, and it came up about 3 or 4 times in the 2 weeks it took me to pull the trigger.
I think I even recall a website that can help you snipe your specific model by setting up an email alert when it becomes available.
Best suggestion is browse it a few times a day over the next few days and just get a feel for what comes up.
Thanks although thinking with 10% off available often combines with 10% Discounted JB cards could be worth going new
@ellave: Do they accept the payment by using multiple gift cards?
@bruce1202: Sure
@ellave: Does that work with Apple? Think it might be excluded from gift cards at JB?
@ellave: Hi,
Can you please direct me to where I can find the JBHIFI gift cards at 10% off? I've been unable to find it on their website or on OZB. Thank you.
There's been a lot of 13s roll through in the past week or so. You can use https://refurb-tracker.com to get an email notification but you'll still need to be quick to catch popular configurations.
Are their refurbished products working properly? Like a new one? Just I feel curious how is the quality of refurbished products compares to the new products.
I bought a apple certified refurb Macbook Pro 16inch off the Apple website and it seems to be fine. There weren't any scuffs or markings on the exterior as well. Pretty much good as new. The battery cycle count was also only 1. I bought apple care with the money i saved.
Same as regular retail except that it comes in a plain box* and the serial will identify it as a refurbished unit. (*sometimes you'll get regular retail boxes if a product has been EOL'd/etc, but that's rarer these days)
These units are mostly those which are returned under Apple's own 14-day satisfaction guarantee, so they would probably be only lightly used and 'near new' anyway. Check the warranty they offer, though, and AppleCare may be a good investment. YMMV
I bought a baseline MacBook Air 2020 this week and I honestly can't tell the difference between this one and a new one. Comes in a plain white box with the standard accessories and paperwork. Condition wise it's indistinguishable from new. No marks on the body at all. That said, my last refurb model from their store suddenly died out of nowhere so the AppleCare investment may well be worth looking into.
Cheers guys. It's good to know that the refurbished Macbook Pro could be a good investment in terms of pricing.
I bought a refurbished Macbook Pro 2015 3 years ago, the macbook looks completely new, battery is good, everything works perfectly until now. Apple has 2 years warranty and 14 days change of mind, so it's worries-free.
How does pricing compare with education store?
10% of ipad air 4 plz
Get the discounted JB Hi-Fi gift cards @ 10% off through AGL.
New macs are gonna be released in 2-3 weeks. Personally, I would hold to see what they have to offer this time. Before Christmas, there'll be definitely another similar sale for sure.
are there major updates coming up in the 2020 version?
Moving away from x86 based Intel processors to Apple ARM based processors?
There is this time around but even when there's not you'll often see the old model discounted, so it can pay to wait even if you're not interested in the new model.
ARM-based Macbook Pro models are certain to be on the books. Also, very likely the last generation of Intel-based Macbook Pro.
where can i get discounted jb hifi gift cards?
You don't need a sale to get 10% off Macs. Just walk in and ask for it. All retailers (except Apple) will always say yes.
I attempted last week - was told no.
6% is certain. not sure about 10%. Even Apple stores are happy to give you discounts these days.
When I bought mine last June I told the sales assistant at JB that I get 10% off through my employee benefits program, but I'd have to go direct to Apple. I said I'd rather buy from bricks & mortar, he explained to his manager and it was approved. I then used discounted gift cards and saved even more.
Great for those who have the AGL rewards gift cards!
For anyone considering a Macbook Pro, don't do it. It's a $2,000+ machine that can't even charge properly. Yes that's right, the laptop will randomly stop charging and then overheat, almost always when you're in the middle of doing something. (Source: First hand experience)
Mine didn't do that (Source: First hand experience)
What year is yours? I think it has been an issue since around 2018 models from what others have claimed online. It seems to be a common issue that Apple ignores.
I have a 2019 13" Macbook Pro and don't have this issue (and it gets worked pretty hard).
I have a 2020 model, never had this issue after 6+ months of everyday use. (Source: First hand experience)
What do you do on your mac when this happens?
I haven't noticed any pattern. Sometimes it can be when I'm doing lots of processing, other times it's just watching netflix or even just typing in a document.
Can't seem to find any solution online and most people have just had to deal with it. Currently I've turned off "Battery Health' management to see how that goes.
You should go to apple and get them to check it out.
I noticed the same thing but it never drops below 90%, it will drain until around 90% then starts charging. Someone told me it's to keep the battery in good condition. It makes sense but they should've made it an optional setting
Sounds like you got a dud take it to apple and get them to fix it, i have several macs from 2009, 2011 and 2018 and all are great workhorses
Yea I had a 2009 macbook pro which worked flawlessly (still does), which is why I wasn't hesitant to get a new one. Sadly they just don't make them like they used to.
Confirmed fake news. Mine charges.
Life tip, don’t eat solid food. I have a friend who choked one time while eating. Stick with protein shakes and blended meat.
Good tip. Also if you're taking my anecdotal comment as news, you got bigger issues.
Not had any trouble with my 2020 13" MBP, either. There's also some anecdotal evidence to suggest that you should only charge from the right-hand USB-C ports.
My 2016 MBP works perfectly until now, i dont have that issues
10% off gift cards via UnionShopper is still working but limit is $250 per gift card.
Last time this was on i negotiated and got lucky and got apple care for $240 instead of $329. Got the macbook pro for $1782.
Negotiated the price of the laptop down further?
Yep, just had to ask!
man if I wasn't so introverted.. I'd probably stutter a lot if I try to ask
@Stingray: I understand, worst case they'll say no. Good practise.
Tempted but does it makes any sense to buy a MacBook as they are eventually moving to Apple Sillicon.
If you're turning over the machine within two to three years, you rely on software that won't make the jump (Bootcamp), or software that may take a while to settle (media, time critical, or relies on third-party hardware optimisations to perform reasonably) sticking with Intel probably make sense. Keep in mind Apple themselves said it'd be a two year transition for the Mac lineup.
There are rumours the next Macbook Pro will still be Intel, but they're bringing back the 12" super thin Macbook (it'll basically be an ipad with a keyboard, at a guess) with the A14X.
Which makes sense. If you want the fastest device around an assured backwards compatibility, an Intel mac will still be the thing to go with. ARM chips should be cheap and powerful (especially power per watt) but scaling up ARM chips is another story, you can't just turn it into a 14W chip or put in a zillion cores and hope for the best. Even if they have amazing battery life Apple probably won't want their laptops spanked by Ryzen and i9.
Friends don’t let friends buy Apple gear without first consulting the Mac Buyers Guide, which is virtually all red/orange today: https://buyersguide.macrumors.com/
Apple stores will price match to 10% off if that helps anyone. Just need to ask.
FYI Officeworks has adjusted their pricing so price beat guarantee wouldn't work
