AMD Ryzen 5 3500x $251.31 Delivered @ PB Tech

100

Long time lurker, first time poster. Been looking for a Ryzen 3600 to complete my new build but found this instead (popped up on my google search.) I have never used BP Tech before but they've been posted here previously (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/564668)

  • Depends if you need 12 threads or only 6 threads

    I'd pay the extra $50 for a ryzen 5 3600 personally

I think the r5 3600 went like $260 at one point on Amazon so if you havent built yet id suggest waiting till prices go down again

      • The Ryzen 3600 is so good it has increased in value.

    • There's also a recent ozbargain post for the 3600xt for $330

at this price for a new build id actually get a 10400f.

but if youre on Am4 platform looking for an upgrade it's just ok.

    • Did you mean AMD, or am I not cultured enough to realise there is something called an Am4…

      • AM4 is the socket which supports current ryzen (and future 5000 series) processors. Those on lower ryzen 1000 or 2000 could potentially upgrade to their CPU without changing motherboard which would be quite cost effective.

        • Oh wow alright thanks then :)

I guess I just haven't been paying enough attention to the AMD side of things hehe

      • AM4 is the current socket used for most AMD processors today

This, don't understand why people are still paying $300 for 3600 when 10400f is around $230

      • Eh, the 10400F does quite a lot worse in workstation loads

Fair enough, but i don't think the majority of people that build in this price range would use applications where they notice the difference, like gen 3 and gen 4 SSD, mainly just synthetic talk

But since AMD is so hype up, people don't realise they're no longer the value option

@ln28909: Yeah for gaming, the 10400F ain't a bad option at all definitely

          • @ln28909: Yes, really, on Ryzen 3000 series vs Intel 10000-series processors, the difference in performance is so small that one should go for whichever one is gives the most cores/threads at that price range.

            • @bpop99: That’s the thing, using that logic AMD’s Ryzen always win out until just recently. Cores are great for productivity but Intel’s are faster per core, which make them great for gaming despite the lack of PCIE4 and slower RAM.

      • I personally went with the 3600 because it is unlocked and b450 supports ram overclocking

        • I mean if the price difference is significant, you're better off just buy a higher speed RAM and OC the 3600 or AMD in general is pretty average to me or maybe I just get bad chip

Same price I picked up the 3600 from Amazon UK

  • I also hadnt heard of PB Tech so was a bit nervous when i pushed the button on the 3600 deal. But it arrived in a few days and its going well in my new build so i will definitely vouch for them.

  • This or 3300x with 4c/8t

SE has special at the moment… see this deal for the ryzen 3600:
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/575867

or if you're looking for the 3300x, then they have that at $219 + delivery:
      https://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/buy/amd-ryzen-3-3300x-4.3…

With all the choices, I'm leaning towards the 3300x since I picked up the 64Gb 3200 ram for $115 a while back

      • Ryzen 3100 has been around the $150-160 mark delivered recently. Surely that's better value than the 3300x listed above which at $230 delivered is like 40%+ more expensive but only marginally better performance

  • I thought the retail box 3500x was only avail in china.
    Has that changed??
If it is an import, would it impact warranty??
