I generally dont have to pay $58 for at ticket to ride ;)
Sorry… had to say it. I have no self control.

But also good price for the game haha

  • kicking myself for missing out on the Europe one during prime day.

How does this compare to that one ?

    • -7

My understanding is you need this version to be able to play the Europe one. That is why I didn't get it on Prime Day

      • +4

Europe is a stand alone game

      • +4

"Ticket to ride - Europe is a complete, new game and does not require the original version. It is for 2 to 5 players, and it takes 30-60 minutes to play"

    • +5

TTR Europe is a good deal right now too.

      https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B000809OAO/ref=ppx_od_d…

$62.95 plus you get an additional 25% off at checkout if you have Prime.

      • Is the Europe version better ?

        • +2

Europe adds a few elements such as tunnels, stations and ferries.

I personally prefer the Europe version, but you can't go wrong with either.

        • Vanilla is rated 7.4 on board game geek, Europe is rated 7.5. so marginally better by that metric

          • @greenwarpy: Lol that is probably because there are more Americans on BGG than non Americans and also
because TTR is more widely known and a better seller than TTRE

            TTR ranking
            overall 163
            Family 30

            TTRE
            Overall 117
            Family 15

        • I much prefer the USA map.

For one its just a much cleaner layout, and I like having most of the long routes on the left and shorter ones on the right - but there are two big things I don't like about Europe, which are the stations and the tunnels.

The stations remove a lot of the tension around the competition for routes, which is a little bit more beginner friendly, but the tension is really the only thing that brings me back to Ticket to Ride all these years later.

The tunnels add quite a painful additional layer of randomness to the game. They're really just awful IMO.

for what its worth though, for newcomers to Ticket to Ride and boardgaming in general I would probably recommend Ticket to Ride London over any of the others.

    • I have played both and have euro as I feel the game mechanics are better and make for more enjoyable game play.

    • I own about 6 different maps and in my opinion Europe is the most well balanced - the locations, routes, distances, connections. Added with the tunnels and train stations, somehow just works the best & smoothest, and gives you enough room to strategise further, plan to score more points, reroute/go around if needed.
That and I like European cities more than 'murica haha

      • Which other maps do you rate highly?

If there is a negative with TTRE, then it is the fact that they use Olde names on the maps. Makes it slightly harder to locate things, but this is nitpicking

        • UK is good, Marklin is popular however personally I found out really stressful for some reason, Asia is fun with lots of space to love around, and India has some mechanisms you might find interesting.
Nordic seems highly rated but I've yet to find a good deal on that!

Yes the names are a bit funky, so I refer to the dots on the destination cards and it makes it a lot easier. The worst I've played (game itself is super fun though) is Pandemic Iberia, we pretty much can't pronounce any of the names lool

          • @sakurakiks: thanks for your suggestions
will keep an eye out for decent prices

most of the expansions are pretty dear IMO, given
they cost more than the base game
and you need the base game to play

eg Ticket to Ride India ~$55
you get a double-sided board (incl Switzerland)
            and destination tickets

you need to use from the base TTR/ TTRE
            trains
            score markers
            train cards

$55 seems a bit steep for what you get considering I bought the base games for <46 each (plus cashback)

almost tempted to print and play the maps and tickets (if I knew where/ how), surely that will cost <$55

            • @docians: Now that you mention it I suppose they are pretty $$$, and they'd be the type of game I wouldn't buy myself but be nice to receive as a gift! Maybe next time when someone asks what you want for your bday…!

The publisher themselves have a bunch on their website https://www.daysofwonder.com/tickettoride/en/fans/ and I googled and found billions on BGG, all produced with permission of Days of Wonder for non commercial use etc etc

  • Isn't this cheaper on ebay? ($38.50)
    Or are these different editions?

    • +4

Personally, I don't trust board/card games sold on eBay due to fakes. That is why I went with Amazon as I trust them as a reputable seller.

    • +2

Ebay is too unreliable and has a lot of fakes for many of the popular modern games like Catan, 7 Wonders and Ticket to Ride.

    • +2

I bought TTR Europe from eBay for $38.80 recently from a seller with 99.5% review rating and the negative comments were not about anything being fake.

The game arrived and it was obviously a fake, no registration code, shoddy quality. Never again.

      • +1

You should contact the seller and provide pictures. You can negotiate for them to send a new one, refund or worst case scenario, settle in returning half the price you paid for.

        • Yeah I started the refund process yesterday + the seller has already refunded my money to Paypal. Just a bit of a hassle having to box the game and send it back.

He probably refunded the money so fast as he's scared of a negative review.

      • Hope you have posted a scathing negative review to help others

The sad part is that the people who run eBay don't seem to care

I bought exploding kittens once from fishpond (after a deal was posted here)
        $20
        Received package
        Postage cost around $13
        Obvious fake
        Contacted seller, money refunded
        Posted review
Someone read my review and asked fishpond if fakes were being sold
Fishpond denied that fakes were ever sold
Tried to post a comment, fishpond did not let me

TTR Europe is a good deal right now too.

    https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B000809OAO/ref=ppx_od_d…

$62.95 plus you get an additional 25% off at checkout if you have Prime.

    • That's a great deal!

    • Not seeing the 25% off crop up at checkout… that still running?

      • Looks like the Australian stock is sold out, and 25% off is gone..

    • Thanks, picked this up. Price ended up being $47.21. Not as good as the prime deal but still much cheaper than buying locally.

  • Both were sadly cheaper on prime day
    TTRE was $39
    TTR was $50
Having played both I would say TTRE is better because

Bigger cards- I don't understand why TTR still comes with small cards (actually I do, it is to drive sales of their expansions)

    Stations
    Ferries
    Tunnels

    • the 1910 expansion is really good though, playing Big Cities on the USA map is probably my all-time favourite way to play TTR.

  • Thanks. Bought the TTRE. I think it sold out quick on Prime day, couldn't get it.

  • Thanks OP, just bought it. Used my $10 off for using the app, good price I reckon!

    • Was there a code for that promo or just targeted?

  • Looks like it is a price match with Mighty Ape.
