Hi everyone,

We have our new Gift Cards portal launching today, which allows you to buy Gift Cards from top retailers and earn cashback. You’ll see more top brands added in the coming weeks but feel free to comment below for some brand suggestions.

This is only available through the ShopBack app (ensure you have the latest app version installed - 2.88).

THINGS TO NOTE

  • You can pay for Gift Cards by using your existing Cashback balance and/or an Australian issued debit/credit card (Mastercard/Visa only). Please note that we do not store or collect card information; all payment-related information is stored in a secure vault by our PCI DSS-compliant security partner.
  • Cashback for your purchases will track immediately, and will be available to withdraw within 2 weeks.
  • Gift cards are all delivered digitally. To access them, go to the app home screen, and tap on Account > Deal Purchase.

We’ll have more brands coming on board shortly, however below is a list of the current offers:

Brand Cashback
Cotton On 5% Cashback
DoorDash 10% Cashback
Hey You 2.5% Cashback
HOYTS 8.5% Cashback

If the brand is on ShopBack then you may be able to earn cashback on top of the purchase whilst also using your gift card at checkout (that’s right, double cashback!). For example, you could buy a $50 gift card for Cotton On and only pay $47.50, plus when you shop at Cotton On using your gift card you’ll earn your regular cashback as well. Make sure you check the T&Cs for each store as they differ.

Also, if you’re a new customer to DoorDash then they’re offering 20% off to new customers + free delivery + $15 off your first 3 orders when you sign up through a referral.

Getting spam calls from fake ATO saying they will arrest me…. is this from shopback?

    • +2

      Yes, I got that too

  • +11

I would rather not deal with business who try to mislead for something very serious. Data breach was told as if nothing happened. And now getting spammed everyday.

  • +5

Very disappointed in Shopback's response following the data breach.

  • +5

To date, we have no reason to believe that any of your personal data has been misused, however the possibility still exists.

  • +4

Yeah nah still concerned about my data being out there. I'm surprised you would be making deals and promoting this shortly after a data breach.

  • +3

Update us on the data breach….

    • -5

What kind of update are you expecting?

      They announced it.

I still don't know how people are 100 percent certain any current spam they are receiving is based on a shopback breach.

      • +4

I find it quite hilarious you're responding to people that want answers by asking them questions

Maybe the countless people that have never had problems with spam or spoofed numbers calling them

        • +3

          Not sure why it's hilarious

I'm a shopback customer, my detail was therefore part of the same data loss

I've also had my email and details 'lost' in numerous hacks , based on haveibeenpowned etc

I haven't see any increase in spam that would align with this breach.
Generally hackers/spammers don't selectively go through a data set and pick who they are going to spam.

This is why I'm curious how people can be 100 sure and also exactly what they are expecting shopback to do.
What kind of update are you wanting?
They aren't going to tell you what, if any, increase opsec has been implemented as that kind of thing isn't announced. They are also unlikely to announce how the data breach occurred as again, you don't publicise any security flaws that may or may not still exist.

Literally zero sarcasm or trolling, just a side of reality when it comes to data these days.

          • +2

@SBOB: I want to know what everybody wants to know what these top security expert found

I get the feeling they don't know what happened or they don't want to tell us

This could be an internal breach

            • +1

@Sammy Boi: But that kind of thing generally isn't announced.

Can you find similar follow up announcements from Sony, LinkedIn, Twitter, canon , Garmin, etc etc etc?

              • +6

@SBOB: Do you see their staff on here posting deals?
After shrugging off a data breach

Can you find me an email from anyone of these companies regarding any kind of breach that was sent out at some ridiculous time on a Friday

      • +4

        They announced it.

Don't forget the email from Shopback that announced the data breach was sent on a Friday night at 10pm!

        • +1

What if their it staff had only finished the internal investigation at 9pm Friday?

When should they have sent it?

It's not exactly time critical information considering it was an event that occurred in the past

As I said above…my data would be in whatever leaked pool also..just no idea why so many pitch forks and what people are expecting them to do post announcment.

          • +2

            @SBOB: Internal investigation?

Does your name mean shop back OzBargain hmmmm

            • +3

              @Sammy Boi: No..it doesn't
Wait…your username initials are also sb…..clearly shop back :/

              • @SBOB: My username isn't for letters that corresponds to shop back OzBargain yours does XD

                • +1

@Sammy Boi: It's short for silentbob..
Honestly, it's not even school holidays when I expect posts of that kind of level :/

                  • @SBOB: Somehow I doubt a silent Bob fan would be acting like you do

                    Shop back OzBargain

                    • +3

                      @Sammy Boi: Quality discourse …
thanks for your contribution to this forum

        • +1

And it's not like somebody immediately detected it and thought dam we need to jump straight away that was a decision that was made

To contact every single customer on a Friday night

          • +1

@Sammy Boi: An email isn't sent when a beach is found
IT mitigate the risk, investigations are performed and documented, possibly external audits conducted and announcements are drafted and reviewed.

After that, the send button is pressed.
Not sure how receiving that email at 4pm on a Friday would make any difference to the outcome

            • +1

              @SBOB: you are delusional

              • @Sammy Boi: Fine
Try having a reasonable discussion on it security and what (realistically) companies can do post a data breach.
Based on your posts I'm assuming you have minimal or no background in it or data security.

If you're just after pitchforks and complaining then guess there's not much point

                • @SBOB: This isn't a reasonable discussion you have blinders on to the point where you're basically white knighting and I just think that's dirty

You act like you know how cyber security works but all you want to do is ask questions

You know those scenarios when someone royally stuffs up and instead of taking accountability they start bringing up other people that's what you're doing.

I'm not here to make comparisons I'm here to get information I deserve regard in a data breach that I was informed of a 1030 on a Friday night but your brain can't comprehend how slimy it is for a company to do that

Blabbering on about internal investigations like they wrapped up at 10 pm at night just in time for them to push the button to send the generic email.

You've taken enough of my time and enough of my brain cells

If it was you that sent that email at 10 pm on a Friday shame

        • +3

          They announced it.

Don't forget the email from Shopback that announced the data breach was sent on a Friday night at 10pm!

Lucky we have govt regulation as I'm sure if not there would they be telling us !

Mobile only gift card store… really?

Why not allow purchases on the desktop browser?

  • +1

2018 Welcome offer still pending, it also says some cash back I got as expired. Not happy with their service. Cashrewards is the way to go.

    • Bonuses remain pending until you earn $10 worth of regular cashback from purchases and you add in your withdrawal details.

As for expiring cashback - this expires after 1 year of activity (ie. no purchases on your account). 30 days and 60 days before expiry, a reminder email would have also been sent out.

  • Yay more discounted gift cards. And hey you!

  • Does anyone know? Can you use multiple cards : digital vouchers to make payment online at jbhifi especially if the item is over $1000 etc? Was thinking to get the Home card?

    • It's been max 5 per transaction online but not sure if that's changed since.

      • +6

Why are you ignoring all other questions in this thread, matey?

I asked you a question in here yesterday and still waiting for a reply. It relates to the Shopback hack where you lost all your data to the darkweb.

        • +4

there is nothing more that I hate than business' deliberate/obvious ignoring of genuine enquirers

just goes to show they are either hiding something, not doing anything or thinking any problems will go away

      • Is that directly online so if I went to the good guys or Jb hifi website, that would work? I also saw that if I went to the TCN website through the ShopBack app, I could get a $500 home voucher is that still 5% off? Or is it only for the vouchers which are $50 and $100 within the app itself? So If I got two $500 vouchers may work for multiple payment option?

        • The Good Guys have a limit of 2 online. But for both they shouldn't have limits if you're using it in-store.

Yes you can also buy the gift cards from TCN directly via SB and get 5% cashback, although cashback will take longer to clear that way, but larger denominations are available. You can get two $500 vouchers, but when you're swapping it over for JB/The Good Guys we're not sure if they have larger denominations to swap for. So with a $500 TCN Home voucher, you might only be able to swap for something like 5x $100s. Best to check with TCN directly to confirm what individual denominations they have for each brand.

Wow a massive thank you for your data breach.. I have received another 4 online casino, funeral insurance and bitcoin email.. Apart from hiring IT professionals to solve the data breach issue, you should hire a better PR company!

    Can a store rep help?

I ordered a $100 TCN voucher via Shopback app.

When I tried to redeem it for $100 ebay voucher it only gave me a $30 ebay voucher code and not the full $100. There was no field for me to specify an amount, i only recalled seeing first name, last name, mobile and email.

So I retried to redeem ebay voucher again and was only given another $30 ebay voucher.

In all I was able to do it 3 times with a total of $90 ebay voucher. When I tried the 4th time to get the remaining $10 the system said I had insufficient funds on my TNC voucher.

Now I can't redeem the last $10, reached out to Shopback and they basically said they can't do anything.

    • -1

Thanks for the update from the PM. Basically, it seems like you were able to submit your details to TCN to receive the gift card, but if you had not selected a denomination it would default to the lowest one at the time (which was $30). They may have fixed things up to only allow you to submit your details after you've chosen a denomination. Also it seems like they've introduced a $10 eBay card to swap for, so that fixes up the last $10 remaining on your card.

  • Have all cards gone to 7% cash back if purchased directly on the Tcn website?

    • -2

Yes it's 7% right now. More for the direct 10% off promo we have with the Restaurant/Pub & Bar/Pamper/Cinema cards, but the 7% will apply to the other cards too.

  • Hey gotyourback, I recently submitted a Groupon missing cashback enquiry and Debra sent me the stock standard rejection today. I did everything by the book, clicked through on your extension, completed the transaction without even clicking out the tab AND I got a screenshot of your popup saying "congrats your purchase was tracked". I personally didn't care much about the data breach thing but this is 2nd rejection on 0 basis (got rejected from Ebay purchase which I completed on your mobile app??) but this would be enough to lose my account. Can you look into it, thanks.

    • -2

Give Debra a reply and PM me your email address once you've sent the reply through. We'll flag your case with the team to appeal.

      • +1

I am disappointed in your approach to customers. Ignoring them and hoping this will go away.

  • just bought hoyts giftcard and tried to use it and got
"This card has no remaining balance."
    very upset now

    • give TCN a call/email,

my card had that a few months ago, and it was a saturday, and they replied and had it activated within an hour,

was surprised to get a reply on sat and resolution

  • DoorDash not showing up for me anymore. Just went to buy one too!

  • I bought TCN online GF using shopback app, then went into order history, then click on "See voucher". Then it takes me to TCN page with card number and pin pre-filled, but it also comes with error that card number and pin is not correct. So how do i get the card? can anyone help? I haven't received any email (spam checked) with card detail from TCN Or shopback… !
