Lol…..knife sharpening angle guides (to be used with a whetstone).
Literally says in the title haha
They're words that mean nothing.
A little OT, but I recently purchased this model of knife sharpening system (sold many places) for my globals. For me it's infinitely easier to achieve a professional edge compared to a traditional whetstone and guide.
Which system? The pull thru ceramic wheels?
I have the ceramic wheel one too (minoshapner)…… It works well, but my blades eventually needed a more agressive edge shaping which the wheels can't do.
I have the Rui system. works really well. I finish on a buffing wheel and it is razor sharp. Now passes the paper cut test.
@OhPee: You use with global knives?
@ash2000: Ha No. Funny thing is I have an unbranded boning knife (found in my father in laws shed) and a skinning and gutting knife in Damascus steel for hunting. And the rest are old Wilkinson kitchen knives. The kitchen knives I just touch up with a steel to keep sharp after doing them on the Ruixin as my wife doesn't like them too sharp.
Which one?
Appologies, forgot the link!
Fancy! Any opinions on such a device, KEB?
Had these ages ago, got annoyed that they left marks on the blades so stopped using them. I guess you could probably polish the marks out but it was easier to just get the angle right by feel.
The marks could be caused if there is material under the rubber parts, but I get you. I learned how to do it by feel also and don't bother using the guides anymore either.
I think some don't mind using the guides still
I only clicked on the link after I read your comment….the Global ones I had years ago weren't lined with anything so would scratch the blade. Seems they improved them over time which is a good thing and my original comment doesn't apply to this version.
Don't forget the cashback which is standing at 0% now!
Any recommendations for Whetstones?
King are the same as Global's, without the nametag markup
Cheaper on ebay
I'd pay 3% more to deal with Amazon rather than ebay at this point.
@macrocephalic: Got mine from this seller at this price no worries, that was back when it was $80+40 delivery on Amazon (no discounts as it wasn’t amazon selling it)
After much looking around, and reading reports of hardness/softness, soak/no soak, cracking/quality etc. I figured I'd go with a "buy once" approach and went with the Shapton kuromaku stones. I use the 1000/5000 commonly, and a 12k for one knife, and they're bloody brilliant.
These are also very hard stones so don't need to be lapped as often.

Are these suitable for all Japanese knives or just global?
Would depend on the knife but a lot of Japanese knives have a 30° cutting angle which these suit.
Thank you for the deal, K.E.B, I appreciate your work
Bought and arrived today, but one part of the metal is clearly bent (shipping damage)? Packaging was intact but the postie jammed the envelope through the mail slot.
Also the inner layer that contacts the knife is not white but black and not rubber but plastic. Not sure if it was stated as rubber but from the pic it sorta had me believing it was.
Waiting for the nxt Amazon restock =)
Received mine too - the product descriptions clearly said it's made in Japan however mine is Made in China
same here
I have no idea what these are.
