The camels say this is the best price since last year. It triggered my $25 price watch for the first time since the last deal.

Great Christmas gift for all the dads and dad-like people you know!

    Price in title

🤦‍♂️ It's like I've never been on OzBargain before.

Great knife. Highly recommend. Should put the price in the title though.

  • How much do those usually go for?

    • there's one selling for $56

    • The previous Amazon US price looks around $29 going by the Camelx3 chart. Australian retailers are $40.

      • +2

Thanks ordered one for some reason : )

    • Looks like one of those items that Amazon sells for a great price and 3rd party vendors jack the price up through the roof. For whatever reason Amazon haven't offered this since March or so. When Amazon are selling it directly it looks like it is usually between $20 and $30.

      I got mine for $13.85

I did say don't go looking at the last OzBargain price. Jesus isn't going to do it again.

This is also how I know it's a great buy at $25 😂

        • So, you'll give us a price-protection guarantee? ;)

      • Yes bought one in that $13.85 deal, should of bought more it's a great little knife.

Why are people buying shower gel with it?

    • Oh my god this was my first laugh of the night 🤣

    • +4

It's actually carbon shower gel and when applied stops the knife from rusting.

    • And where do you clip it while in the shower?

    Brilliant little unit.

thankyou for posting.. I had placed 2 separate orders for these earlier in the year with Amazon, and they cancelled both orders… here is hoping this one comes through!

  • I haven’t used this particular knife but I’ll go against the crowd and say I’m generally not a fan of this style.
IMO for general use the blade is too short given the overall unit length and I’ve never found them better to use than a regular Stanley knife.
I used to find that just the blades with a piece of tube down the spine are useful for processing rabbits though.

    • It's a really well designed little knife. As a warehouse worker it was small and light enough to keep on me all the time. It's actually really small and light. I bought it as I was sick of having to use my keys to open up boxes. I never kept it in a regular pocket as I don't trust anything sharp that close to me but I have never had it open accidentally other than when I have dropped it on the floor.

      • Maybe I need to give this particular one more of a chance but my previous experience with similar designs just wasn’t that good, although I wasn’t opening boxes.

    • I have one of these regular Stanley knifes and hate it: https://www.bunnings.com.au/stanley-retractable-trimming-kni…
Very unstable blade and the shape of the large grip doesn't give me any better handling as I'd expect.

Plastic tube sounds hardcore, but I suppose in that case you want dexterity and don't need to carry it in your pocket.

Most of the modern budget Stanley knives aren’t very good. I’ve got a vintage Stanley and a modern one that’s made in Europe and they’re both pretty nice to use.

The tube blades lived in a butchering box with the tube over the cutting edge when not in use so they were safe. The dexterity helped but it was mainly that we were lazy when it came to sharpening and a friend could them for free from his work.

  • Thanks mate, bought a couple. One for home, one for work

How are you guys getting free delivery? Says I need to buy for $49 for free shipping. And yes I have prime.

    • im the same, telling me i need to spend $49

    • Its free with a $49 spend if you have Prime because its an International order. So just get 2 so shipping is free.

    • +2

The 'free shipping for internal orders over $0' was part of the US Prime Day promo which ended at midnight. It's now reverted to the usual 'orders over $49'.

  • anyone knows whats the replacement blade models are for this?

  • this is a great bit of kit if anyone would prefer something with a bit more heft to it: https://www.bunnings.com.au/trojan-folding-utility-knife_p57…

  • I used mine regularly since last year. I am still on the original blade as I have sharpened it twice to save the environment and my money. I have a few nice spyderco but too big to carry. This one is more legal to carry it in the pocket.

    • Yeah exactly. I have a couple of Spyderco knifes (Dragonfly & Bug), but this little Gerber is my go-to for home/office basic tasks. It looks and feels like a tool rather than a knife, so I feel less conscious using it in front of people to open boxes, parcels, etc.

  • Don't forget to check out the frequently bought with at the bottom of the page.

  • I have a knockoff of this from banggood (cost $8.50 at the time) and it's been good. Sturdy, no wobble, no rust.

This is actually a genuine Gerber. It was recalled due to the supporting piece of metal running along the edge of the blade at the back not being supportive enough. So this allowed the blade to jump out and has cut a lot of people.

Someone bought all the recall stock and is selling them cheap. Gerber fixed the recall, and made a few other tweaks like changing the blade locking screw to allow undoing it with a small coin instead of a hex, removed the finger nail opening notch and made the belt clip a different shape.

So yes you shouldnt get rust or wobble being a proper Gerber, just be care of the blade jumping out when doing heavy cutting.

      • It definitely looks exactly the same apart from those fixes!

      • Interesting to know. I haven't had any issues so far, but I also don't do heavy cutting with it. It's small size lends itself to light duties. I have a larger stanley one which I would use if I needed to apply significantly more pressure.

That said, it's surprising that it's only recall stock being sold; it's a pretty simple design which could easily be replicated by anybody able to machine metal.

I just found a video where someone compares both versions side by side and talks about the recall https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dk1-5_dHbQI

Yes whoever bought the recall stock could of also bought the tooling and rights to keep making that version since the recall was in the USA and selling it out of China wont matter.

  • It doesn't look very comfortable to hold. I guess it's a good alternative to a regular stanley knife?

    • +2

You wouldn't use it for cutting carpet every day on the job. Its big advantages are its sturdy build, very compact size and replaceable blade. Although there are some obvious parts of the design that make it more ergonomic, the compact size does sacrifice grip.

A regular Stanley knife is garbage as far as comfort goes.

  • Just dropped to $22.89. I'd buy another if I could make the $49 cart 🤔

    • I solved the problem. 1 for me and 7 more for Christmas presents 🎅
