Just noticed this projector is on sales and is a part of Prime Day

I own this projector. Bought it at the start of lockdowns to watch movies at home. Surprisingly good value and was exactly what I was looking for: cheap, passable quality, amazon customer support. Not sure about the 4200 lumens part lol and also not recommend it for work/presentation.

For those wondering, it's a 720P native resolution projector

    • +2

New to projector, what does that mean 1080p support? Hard to achieve 1080p?

      • -1

        720p native, scaled to 1080p

        • +2

+1 Disappointing (This may be why they don't recomm. use for PPT presentations)

" QKK mini projector technical team worked hardly" (believable).

Ours also claimed to be "upgraded" (without telling how, from/to).

        • +11

It'd be the other way around. 720p native, scaled DOWN from 1080p.
This means it can't decode a 4K signal input, so the source media has to be provided to it at 1080p or lower or else it won't be displayed.

It can't physically scale to 1080p if it's natively 720p.

          • -1

@camshandez: Eh. If I put a full HD movie (1080p) on a flash drive and the projector recognises and plays it then what is the "native resolution" ?

            • +12

@Scythic: The Projector world is full of scammy language around native resolution, but the easist way to explain it is this.

              It's a 720p TV
It will play UP TO 1080p source media-fed via HDMI
If you plug in a 4K BluRay player and set the BluRay player to output true 4K signal the projector should theoretically say "no input"

I have a LG PF1500G, which is a true 1080p LED projector, cost about $1500 4 years ago.
Because of that purchase I had to endure a lot of research into the projector world to discover how bad the specs listings were.

To be fair, TV sellers do the same crap with "500hz smooth motion" and "infinite contrast", just projectors seem to cause confusion about resolution which isn't something that's nice to mess up.

720p is still good, a lot of projectors at this price would normally be 480p.

        • +2

Uh, don't you mean it supports 1080p input but scaled to 720p native?

    • +1

Highest Native Resolutions on The Market: QKK home theater projector supports 1920*1080 resolution

Then on the second product picture,

      720p Native

      Confused. Native 720 or 1080?

    • Actually, can you let us know where do you find this information?
I was curious as well and read the user manual from the box again

      Screenshot

      • +1

It's in the description, 6th block down

Native resolution of our mini projector is 720P, 1080P are also supported.

        • +1

Ffs, their listing has 2 different versions of description ._.

          • +3

@Scythic: Many Amazon listings are trash unfortunately "32GB DDR4 SODIMM Module 8gb" - a listing for 8GB ram stick

    • +2

I did count the dots on the screen, it does have 1280×720 px. But the brightness is terrible, hardly see anything if there were any lights on in the room.
      Good for the price though.

  • +19

Please save your hard earned money and don't contribute to land waste by getting one of these cheap projectors.
Horrible picture quality and dimmer than a phone flash.

Edit: The reviews are bizarre, everyone is saying it is bad but giving it 3/4/5 stars… WHY?

    • +1

Can you recommend any good Projectors?

      • +4

Nothing in this price bracket, I'd say for anything reasonable your have to add a zero in front of it. Or if we are really squeezing it maybe $4-500ish.
These cheapies just lie about every single spec.
You want something with 1080p projector and at least 700lumens.
$1k should get you something half decent.

Next thing to check is bulb life and how easy and pricey it is to replace the light

        • +9

I've only had encountered one of these at my sister's place, not knowing how much it costed or specs. It was not usable for my taste. The movies we played just looked wrong in terms of colour and everything. The only thing it has is you get a large screen for cheap. If that's all you care and picture quality doesn't bother you, go for it… I would say this is the same sort of deal as your $2-300 55inch Kogan/JVC TV, it's large and that's about it.

As someone explained below, they offer a free projector screen if you give them 5star. that's where all the 5 star reviews come from. Forgetting about the ethics of the act or the quality of the screen, just go look at the pictures sent by people. I used this projector in a very dark room at night (not pitch black as the curtains weren't that good) and it looked washed out and not a very pleasant experience.

The only use case I can see for something like this is if playing some party games with friends and need a large screen and quality doesn't matter much (say Jack's Box series or similar games).

To those who say adjust your expectation, I'm saying this is a waste because it's so bad. Doesn't matter how much it costs or if free (I won't use it even for free).

          • -5

@OpayuOnam: I think you're trying too hard lol

            • +1

@Scythic: I just want to prevent yet another landfill…

            • @Scythic: I think you're trying too hard actually. In fact I think you are promoting this listing and you're probably the seller themselves.

              • @Altitud: What about other posts on the forum. Are you saying everyone who posted here are sellers?

              • @Altitud: I'm saying you're defending the entire post pretty hard despite everyone's comments on quality being substantially negative - to the point where one has to wonder what's in it for you ?

                • +2

@Altitud: Feel free to report this for sockpuppeting and let the mods sort it out lol

Frankly speaking, I just thought it's a deal and I posted it. I had good experience using the projector so I made positive comments.
Would it make more sense if it was like "Hey guys I'm gonna post a bargain but it's so terrible that I'm going to try to convince everyone not buying it"

        • +7

I'd say for anything reasonable your have to add a zero in front of it.

          Any recommendations for $084.14?

      • my mate seems happy with this Kogan 1080p 5000 lumen for $369

        https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-5000-lumens-full-hd-proje…

I almost caved and bought it on the 10th Oct when it was 10% extra off.

    • +1

      Edit: The reviews are bizarre,

From where you read the review, most said it is good for the price.

      • +4

When people expected 4K image quality and as bright as a $3000 projector but only wanted to pay $100

        • as bright as a $3000 projector but only wanted to pay $100

          Very true.

        • +3

We expect 1080p not 720p… (OR remove "1080p" from spec)

          • +1

            @IVI: Yeah 1080p very confusing, 720p Native.

But for $84 projector what do you expected?

          • +1

@IVI: I casted full HD movies to the projector and the image was clear, not blurry. Projector is 3m away from the wall, projected area seems to be 1.2m height and 2m width

            • +1

@Scythic: Yeah a 720p projector is surprisingly OK. When I had one, nobody knew it wasn't 1080p unttil I told them.

The problem with these cheapo projectors is that they lie about the specs. It's not 1080p at all, that's a bold-faced lie by the seller.

    • +2

They probably got them for free

      • +2

Look at comments below, they are offering a free projector screen to anyone who gives them 5 star in 48 hours of receiving lol.

        • +4

          Probably A4 size

          • +1

@shiznit: Laughed too hard at this, thanks mate.

            • +1

@OpayuOnam: It will be made of paper too, with the invoice printed on the back.

    • +2

      Rubbish, it's a great projector.

I paid full price and would pay more for it.

      Use it all the time.

      • The only person downvote the deal doesn't seems to own this particular projector …

        • +1

how many people in this thread own the projector?

there's plenty of 720p junk for the same price

          • @TEER3X: I don't know how many exactly, but quite a few commented here claimed they had owned this projector

Yeah of course. I owned some crappy ones before. But this one, imo, is better than those and for the price. That's why I dared to post it lol

      • +1

Yes I agree. It is a Great projector for Rubbish, nothing else…

  • +1

720p on a big screen? No thanks

  • How dark does your room have to be to watch this? Could you watch during the daytime without the curtains closed?

    • +1
    • +4

I've had it for ~18months, not much contrast in a half dimmed room, needs to be dark. Acceptable projection of image at 1.2m-1.5m diameter viewed from 3m away. For the price I didn't expect anything more so I'm happy with it.

      • -1

how big is the screen at 1.2m-1.5m?

        • I'm estimating around 30"?

    • LOL no of course not.

  • +4

I have to say, I bought this and it does the job. Decent enough quality for what you pay for, have it projected in the bedroom (and onto the ceiling when we're feeling super lazy!).
Don't expect 4k quality at this price.

    • +1

thats exactly what i wanted it to use it for - ceiling projector haha thanks!

      • +1

        maybe this will help

        • +1

          Wow looks sick! Thanks man

  • +6

Purchased one a few months ago. I wasnt happy. Don't expect clear picture with it having a lot of blur on the edges. The reason why reviews are rated so highly is because they offer a free projector screen if you give them a rating of 5..

    • +4

What were you expected for sub $100 projector lol

      • +4

Not wrong there, but when you're taking the word of reviews, but later find out most high ratings are due to the seller offering free items in return, its a little annoying.

        • +3

Seems obvious Amazon should ban them, isn't there a report button somewhere…?

    • because they offer a free projector screen if you give them a rating of 5..

      From where you got this?

      • +3

They put a notice inside the package saying if you leave them 5 stars within 48 hours of receiving the projector, they will send you a free backdrop/projector screen

        • +1

Did they actually send you a screen?

      • +1

From the little card that came with the package.

        • +2

Ohhh I remember seeing that card in the package. But when I bought this, I have it sent to my work by accident. Due to not working in the office, I had to go and get the parcel 2 weeks later lol

          How was the screen?

    • +1

I have one of this and I agree it has blur in the edges but it won’t affect watching movies, I personally love this projector great colour, kids love it and we use it for for out door as well as kids room it goes well with the chromecast.

People who complaint about lumens and need to operate in the dark environment, may not like watching movie in cinema theatre

      Can’t expect much for $100 (i paid).

  • +1

Great for family movie when camping.
    Is super light and tiny.
Combine this with a fire tv stick and a Bluetooth transmitter to connect to Bluetooth speaker and is super simple to set up.
We project into a caravan wall. We usually hotspot to phone to stream movies.

    • +2

That's what I'm thinking. For our courtyard I wouldn't mind setting up something like this to just project onto one of the outdoor walls at night…
Certainly won't be amazing, but for <$100 if the picture is half decent I reckon it's worth it.
I had an old Sony 46" TV I was given that I intended to setup outside, but I just put it on hard rubbish. Must have weighed about 30kg and then trying to wall mount it would have been even more aggravating. A cheapie projector would be far less headache..

      • You would definitely need an external speaker for outdoor setup. Plus it in via AUX cable :)

        • I have one of those old Bose Bluetooth speakers that have long battery. They work well for outdoor movies.

  • +1

Bought it before this post, just want one to play with won't use it for everyday watching, if no good will return it with Prime.

    • Exactly. That's what I thought before buying it as well. If not happy, can easily return with Prime membership's free return

      • -1

I thought free return was only applicable for items which have a "free returns" messaging on the top right hand corner of the product detail page which this doesn't have.

        • +2

So far I have no problem with free returns with Prime product.

        • +1

In the past, everything I bought that has the "Prime" label next to price is eligible for free return within a certain time after purchase. I believe this is still the case

  • Would this be much better? If the reviews of the posted deals aren’t genuine then it’s hard to trust any of the reviews…

DR. J Professional HI-04 1080P Supported 4Inch Mini Projector with 170" Display - 40,000 Hours LED Full HD Video Projector, Compatible with HDMI,USB,SD (Latest Upgrade) https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07174LM85/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_f…

    • +1

Personally I think they would be the same quality lol

    • +1

If you want a projector that you'd actually choose to watch over your TV (or even your ipad/laptop, LOL) there's nothing in this price range.

You need to look at brand-name projectors, read up on reviews, and spend at least $750 for 1080p or $1600 for 4k (more at the moment due to COVID shortages).

    • …or maybe this one that someone just recommended below. See the video review they posted, it actually looks good enough to watch regularly as your main "TV": https://www.banggood.com/BlitzWolfBW-VP6-LCD-Projector-6000-… for around $300 AUD.

  • +2

Had one, returned it cause I simply don't need it but for the price I think it's great. Would be ideal for older console ( Wii etc) or kids projector for sleepovers and things like that. It's not a home cinema solution.

  • From what I can tell, this does is not powered via USB, so you can't use a power bank?

    • Yep, not USB powered, it's mains powered.

    • +1

I don't think USB enough to power a projector.

      • USB-C can provide up to 100W, so it'd be theoretically possible to power one of these mini projectors that way.

  • +2

I bought one a few months ago to use as a cheapy outdoor projector and I reckon it's pretty good for the money. I plug in a chromecast to push content to it which gets powered off the projector USB port. Speaker isn't great but does the job, I also use an external powered speaker instead.

There's no Zoom, so you need to adjust the size by moving the projector closer/away from the screen.
Keystone correction is just a slider that no doubt adjusts a mirror inside. This causes edge blur so it's best to have the projector and screen as straight and level as possible.
Brightness isn't great, you'll need a darkened room for sure.

  • +1

Would anyone have any experience with one and can recommend a better budget portable projector?

  • +1

Looks like a huge fake lens in the pictures, with a much smaller real lens behind it.

720P is OK, but of course the "4200Lumens" is a massive lie.

    • +1

it might refer to the max lumen of the built-in led light source on it's best-performed color, which is irrelevant to real-life performance.

When translating to ANSI lumen on the wall with 3m distance for normal content, I think this one can't even reach 1000 lumen.

      • Lumens refers to the total light coming from the projector (with an all-white image?), so distance does not matter for that metric.

1000 lumens would be OK for a small cinema projector. This one would be much less, I expect.

  • +1

    How LOUD is the fan!?

    • +2

Not as loud as my old GTX 970 OC. It has a blower fan..

  • +5

Probably the only budget projector I'd consider:
    https://www.banggood.com/BlitzWolfBW-VP6-LCD-Projector-6000-…

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R39wmq-JWSg

Sure, it's $200 more but I think it's worth it.
