Caribee Long Reef Beach Shelter $87.90 Delivered @ Snowys

20

48.3% off RRP - I've been looking for a beach shelter which I can take on a plane, but also saw a family use a similar model recently and was amazed at how well it held up in the wind, meanwhile my own beach umbrella (Mesh style from bunnings) got toppled over. Just purchased mine before posting and looking forward to using it this summer!

Overall positive review however a couple of owners did mention some difficulty setting up in the wind, the mallet coming off the handle and one of the tent pegs snapping (but they're plastic - I'm intending on buying some larger metal tent pegs to supplement).

  • Metal pegs definitely needed! I can see the poles bending after several uses.

Also, by looking at the pictures it doesn't provide much cover from the sun.

    • Agreed, I'm gonna test the plastic ones, but I've put in an order for some metal pegs to supplement the kit.

The family I saw using it had it set up as an inverted V (so the poles in the middle), with the larger opening facing the water, had plenty of shade.

I love how in the third picture, the 2 kids are in complete sun and the shade is behind the shelter altogether

        So did I.

    • They're girls, so want the sun for tanning. I don't think this would work anywhere there is wind. Which in my case is everytime I go to the beach.

I have one of those 3 sided pop up tent things. Has a zip front so you can close up to get changed. The other 3 sides has small openings which you can close off. I think a similar one was just posted last week. Mine was from Anaconda.

Sometimes these designer looking one's aren't the most practical.

      • The pictures are a bit oddly modelled in some. I have seen some of these shelters by different brands simply have the model upfront with the shade as a blurred out background or only showing a corner of it.

Anyways, that being said, would be a struggle to set up in wind, but once it is up, holds up really well. The family which had there's set up next us (we had an umbrella - one from Bunnings with the pole that goes into the sand having a spiral shape for digging in) were fine in the wind and our umbrella got blown out twice.

If you are able to transport your shelter from house to car to beach then a cool cabanna or your tent shapes are great, but I got this so I can travel with it.

All that matter is that it fits your needs.

  • Are you thinking carry-on or checked luggage??

    • Checked. It weighs 3.5kg packed, so you could probably take it carry-on?

      • not sure about the metal poles or tent pegs in carry on.

        • As long as there isn't a battery or flammables inside them they'll be just fine.

          • @anthoman: Ski or walk poles are not allowed. Tent poles are the same kind of thing. Can't find an answer online yet.

  • might keep the rain off you
