It's still supported, so there's no security concern. It's a $229 phone, what planet are you on?

If you want pretty and shiny, go buy pretty and shiny. If you're in the market for a cheap phone, you make compromises.

          Uranus i think.

Straight out of the gate? i bought this phone for my missus a year ago, it ain't a new model

    No band 28

    • +12

Does have band 28 and NFC, OP just posted wrong link (to Note 8 and not Note 8T)
      https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/xiaomi-redmi-note-8t-64gb-white…

      • +1

What's the different between your link and this one, which is $1 less?

        • nothing by the looks of it, lol. nice find!

        • +7

Not sold by Kogan so you may have more of an issue to claim warranty.

          • @Bigboomboom: I thought that an item sold by an aussie retailer with an abn (Kogan) that you had the rights of aussie consumer laws regardless of where the retailer gets the item.
Retailer is responsible for warranty issues afaik?
Correct me if i am wrong.

@Cheeper: It's Kogan marketplace, like Ebay (Sold by VChain Global ECommerce, not Kogan). You may be dealing with a drop shipper not based in Australia at all. There is Kogan guarantee but I have no idea how far will that go, at least with stuff sold by Kogan then it's quite clear.

              • +1

                @Bigboomboom: From the RN8 Kogan listing…
" This product is covered by the Customer Charter and comes with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law.

You can also purchase 3 Year Extended Care including Mishap Protection. If you are interested please see our Extended Care Information here."

              • +1

@Bigboomboom: Note 8T - these are sold by Xiaomi itself.

        • Local stock? Vs Hong Kong(VChain Global ECommerce)
          Bonus? sim card via kogan

        • +2

That's white incase you hadn't picked up on it 😁

        • "0 0" Good find especially as it still currently offers free delivery 08/10/2020 and this is a good looking phone in white too.

    • nice - do you know whether this is the global rom ? I cant seem to find a tab to ask the question on kogan.

      • +2

I would say it does as it has the global network band set including B28.
After checking the features I would go with the 8T at this price.

    • +6

      MediaTek Helio G80 :-(

      • +4

        5000mah battery :-)

      • +1

You won't notice much btw SD 665 vs MTK G80

        • +1

The G80 looks like it's a bit faster actually, but it's more the ROM's and solid Gcam support that I'd stick with the 8T personally.

Good phone for this price, especially it supports gcam

  • These are usually grey imported models and take forever to recieve them

  • Are these phones locked to Kogan? I see they come with a freee Kogan mobile plan.

    • +3

Unlocked – compatible with all major Australian network providers.

      • Thanks …

  • +2

Thanks OP - grabbed a pair for the parentals as an early Xmas pressie

They're a great phone. However both the front and rear scratch easily.

    • +1

Haven't had this issue with mine - but then I have a weird folding case as extra protection (and to show the kids that dad is gettin' OLD).

      • +1

If you have a flip/wallet style folding case that really makes a difference to scatching less both the front and back.

As I live close to and go to the beach often, I find I do need to take phone out of Any case every now and again

( weekly/fortnightly ) to clean out any sand/dust as that tends to scratch both aluminium/glass/plastic back.

I would not say that you are "gettin OLD" but rather "gettin Wiser" lol.

  • This is a lot better than iPhone 12 Pro for one tenth of the price.

  • +1

Great price, I myself have the Mi9 SE

  • Good price, but is it worth spending another $150 for the Poco X3?

    • i wonder that too… Poco is ugly AF though…

    • +1

I bought the Note 9 Pro for $100 more. Not sure if people are into Toby Deals, but I bought my last phone from them and it went fine. Shipped today. With COVID not sure if their 6-8 working days is accurate, but I'll see.

  • +1

I reckon it might be worth spending the extra $70 for the note 9s:

    https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/xiaomi-redmi-note-9s-64gb-inter…

-better looking from the front (imo; no 'redmi' writing on front, camera is punch out instead of notch, smaller chin)
-snapdragon 720g instead of 665 (~30-40% faster general stuff (cpu) and ~90% faster for games, also should have better battery)
    -5040mAh vs 400mAh
    -bigger screen: 6.67" vs 6.3"
-newer, so probably longer software support from xiaomi

it is a bit bigger and heavier, though: 4mm longer, 1mm wider, 10g heavier

    • +3

AFAIK, no NFC on that model

      • oh wow you're right, good catch!

xiaomi so inconsistent with the nfc lol

        • +1

          It's crazy isn't it

I know the 9 Pro has it but I'm not inclined to spend a further $180

        • "n00bchicken" Just go for the Pro linked above for a bit more, almost same phone with better camer, 30W charging and NFC.

  • So confused over which phone to get now!?!

  • How is this compare to Oppo A72 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/570802
Is Oppo brand more popular and better support?

    • +1

only noticeable thing to me is 128gb vs 64gb…

think xioami is bigger and more reputable than oppo however…

  • This looks very similar in specs to Oppo A52.
