GIGA-3080-LAUNCH

Party like it's 1995! Kicking off RTX 3080 season with high spec systems through our partnership with Gigabyte, starting at $1998 with the Ryzen 5 3600.

Ryzen 5 3600 or Ryzen 7 3700X | Gigabyte RTX 3080 10GB Gaming PCs: $1998 and $2188 after GIGA-3080-LAUNCH

Here's how allocation works:

  • Limited quantity of Gigabyte Eagle OC cards arriving in September (scheduled for next week)
  • Limited quantity of Gigabyte Gaming OC cards arriving in September (scheduled for next week)
  • More stock is arriving in October for both. Once the "September" cards in the Graphics Card section are marked as sold out on the website, you can purchase the October variants, and your system will ship as soon as they come in.

It is strictly first come, best dressed, no holdsies.

Godspeed.

    • Hey, so I'm apart of the October shipment and I received my shipping notice/tracking number on Friday afternoon. Did you end up having a look at the tracking early on, because mine just says "Pending" since friday afternoon. Kind of wondering if Aus Post has screwed up a little or it just hasn't been picked up by Aus Post

    https://youtu.be/BkTgYMlCl4E

According to this video, all of the 4 RTX 3080 cards crashed if they are overclocked over 2k mhz, including founder's edition and asus tuf (which has all 6 'good/mlcc' components at the back).

Gigabyte gaming oc also outperformed zotac, maybe because the 470 poscap is better than the 370 ones zotac used.

I guess everything should be fine as long as people don't overclock, and wait for driver updates.

    • Just my two cents on the issue: it seems like the GPU boosting algorithm doesn't take the various capacitor configurations into account. This, combined with limited testing time for AIBs, means that even factory OCs aren't necessarily stable. You then add silicon lottery, different user hardware configurations, different workloads and all sorts of other variability and it's not surprising some cards are crashing.

What this amounts to is some overestimation of the average 3000 series GPU's performance to the tune of a few FPS. I'm personally fine with this - if others are unhappy, that's their right too.

    • Hopefully it's just a driver issue and not a hardware on. Not that it's acceptable either way when you've just spent >$1k on a card and can't overclock. But hopefully it's an easy fix

      • -2

Nvidia have released a new driver that "fixes" the issue by lowering the boost clocks for the 3080 & 3090. Guess if you wanted to overclock you'll have to sell your existing card and wait for a newer revision with hardware updates.

  • Quick question….

I bought my PC, will I get all the cables with the PC??? Please say yes… :(

    • The power supply will come with a power cable.

That’s the only cable you need.

      Unless you also added peripherals

      • I am wondering because I don't have any cables with my monitor :((

        • Just go grab a display port cable

          • @creesy: Aww man, I would highly appreciate it if it could come with the PC :))

            • +1

@Fyerr: How do you use the monitor currently? None of the components being installed will come with a DP cable so the delivery won't either.

              • @Hinee: I actually have a MacBook Pro currently and never needed to hook it up to a monitor, but I'm sure if I were to, I would use a HDMI cable.

Yet again what is better for the PC, a HDMI or Display Port Cable???

            • +1

@Fyerr: Display cables always come with the monitor, never the GPU.

              • @vee124: Yeppp I understand that, maybe if I just go and search online I can probably get a HDMI or Display Port

    Nvidia statement

    https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/geforce-graphics…

NVIDIA posted a driver this morning that improves stability. Regarding partner board designs, our partners regularly customize their designs and we work closely with them in the process. The appropriate number of POSCAP vs. MLCC groupings can vary depending on the design and is not necessarily indicative of quality.

Don't believe YouTube idiots without other sources of information.

Even before this driver update, the Gigabyte cards seemed to have less issues than other cards.

    • Wonder if the driver lowers voltage and clock speed. Like a firmware underclock

      • +1

People are already analysing the new drivers, so we'll find out soon enough, but the early reports are no it doesn't underclock, seeing reports of cards hitting 2100MHz without crashing now.

  • +2

I saw JayzTwoCents (Who created the YouTube video about POSCAP causes power delivery issue) replied to people on Twitter today,

“If it makes you any more confident, I stress tested out Gigabyte OC 10G today for 5 hours without a single crash. 5 hours non stop looping 100% without issue. It’s a 6 POSCAP card”

    • Awesome news - good share.

  • +1

Hey Luke, any word on Watch Dogs: Legion now that a bunch have shipped?

    • +5

Nothing from NVIDIA. But 3700X will get AC: Valhalla until we run out of codes

      • That's great news! Will it be a code in the box or do I need to sign up somewhere?

        • +1

          Code in the box 👍

  • My system just got shipped :)

    • Me too!!!
ETA Tue - Thur to Bris

      • Would love if you could put some photos of the build in here once you receive! Maybe an imgur album :)

        • Will do

    • Me three! Coming to Melbourne so we'll see how Australia Post goes with that..

      • +1

It worries me too. My 34” Xiaomi monitor arrived with a boot print on it yesterday. Cracked panel.

        • Damn my xiaomi has a dead pixel and now awaiting for a replacement.

    • Shipped too :) ETA 8th to 12th of Oct…

      • Two weeks for shipping??? Where do you live?

        • +1

I'm in Perth :'( hopefully an AusPost mistake

  • Hi Luke
Are there any special deals planned for Black Friday?
    Thanks

    • +2

      Highly likely

      • Awesome. Might just hold out until then then. Thanks for the response

  • Hi

Does anyone know what the companies for the RAM and cpu cooler, and other parts is gonna be??

Some promising test results for the new driver

Gigabyte has provided a statement on the issue:

    GIGABYTE:

In response to the recent reports speculating that the use of POSCAP capacitors on the GeForce RTX 3080/3090 graphics cards could lead to stability issues and crashes, we would like to clarify the issue with the following statement:

    1. It is false that POSCAP capacitors independently could cause a hardware crash. Whether a graphics card is stable or not requires a comprehensive evaluation of the overall circuit and power delivery design, not just the difference in capacitor types. POSCAPs and MLCCs have different characteristics and uses, thus it is not true to assert that one capacitor type is better than the other.

    2. The GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 30 graphics cards are designed in accordance with NVIDIA specifications, and have passed all required testing, thus the product quality is guaranteed. GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3080/3090 GAMING OC and EAGLE OC series graphics cards use high-quality, low-ESR 470uF SP-CAP capacitors, which meet the specifications set by NVIDIA and provide a total capacity of 2820u in terms of GPU core power, higher than the industry’s average. The cost of SP-CAP capacitors is not lower than that of MLCCs. GIGABYTE values product integrity highly and definitely does not reduce costs by using cheap materials.

NVIDIA has released a driver (version 456.55) on September 29, 2020 that improves stability. Users are advised to update to the latest driver for optimized performance. For users who encounter power-related issues with GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 30 series graphics cards, GIGABYTE will provide product replacement, free of charge.

GIGABYTE has been constantly improving and optimizing product quality, especially in terms of thermal designs, to provide the best gaming experience to the consumers for decades. For the latest AORUS GeForce RTX 30 graphics card series, we have also paid extra attention to the cooling performance and introduced industry-leading solutions such as MAX-Covered Cooling to ensure that the operation of each component is stable.

    • +4

That's as definitive a statement as you'll ever see.

      • +2

Wait you mean Reddit users aren't all certified electrical engineers??

        • I mean, the fact that other manufactures changed their design to specifically include at least one MLCC speaks for itself.

          • @justarandyleak: But those that use MLCC still crash prior to the drivers update…I have seen multiple reports that even Asus and the founder crash

            • @ozvictor: Maybe its a mix of driver issues and power capacitors. I just don't see why there were pictures of GPUs like the Ventus 3080 with 6 Poscaps and no MLCCs but gets changed to 5 Poscaps and 1 MLCC in release.

          • @justarandyleak: They changed design to MLCC to better support higher clocks and OC plus they found it clearly worked better for those specific brands with how they were handling power delivery.

As another user said, MLCC cards were also crashing too.

        • +1

on the contrary. redditors are the dumbest (profanity) you'll ever meet in the world

Hi Luke, sent through a refund request 6 days ago. Looking a little suss I haven't got acknowledgement, or received the refund yet. Would you mind checking your emails please?

    • FYI: Luke organised the refund me immediately.
I'd have no hesitation recommending Techfast from now on, so long as Luke was the person I was dealing with.

  • +2

Just adding - Nice work Luke. For all the shti you cop everytime you post up a deal, you keep em coming. :)

    • +4

As much as I appreciate the good deals let's be honest here. They post to make a profit.

A good rep and after sales customer service does help to build confidence for ongoing sales. However post like above where a customer has not had a refund request acknowledged for a week are concerning.

      • +2

yep business is business… this place is great marketing for him and he would do ok out of it, although his markups arent anything like other places.. Small profit, fast/large turnover.. works for some places.

but nearly every thread ends up a pissing match… I'd not come back.

        • +2

I'm worried exactly that he won't come back and that they're riding the pre-order train, taking a billion orders, then going insolvent.
Granted there has been a weekend in the middle of the 6 days & I did request late at night, so I'll even say 3 days to be fair. But when someone is holding 2k of your hard earned & they don't wanna meet their legal obligation to refund and do so timely…well, let's all hope I get this refund nowish.

          • +2

@Unsafe: Out of curiosity what is the reason you are asking for a refund and why are they legally obliged to refund you?

6 days is longer than they traditionally take to get back to people for sales orders to be fair but im pretty sure they had it somewhere in their policy that they take a cancellation fee

            • @p78p: https://techfast.com.au/1916633134/policies/refund-policy.ht…

              Cancellation:

If you require a cancellation of non-system products before the item has been dispatched, a full refund will be given. In the case of system builds, if you require a cancellation of your item after it has been built, a cancellation fee of up to 25% of the order value may apply.

              • @Unsafe: Oh ok, sorry wasnt aware - pretty good actually. hopefully for your system hasn't been built for your sake then.

If it gives you any comfort plenty of people have bought and are happy customers. They aren't going insolvent by taking deposits - it's there business model.

6 days is a fair bit. Pm on here and I'm sure hell get back to you

                • @p78p: You're right man. I agree, they do have a fair refund policy.
I doubt they had the system built 6 days ago when I put in my request, otherwise I would be deep into 4K gaming right now. I was in the October shipment too, so the card could not have been in stock for a build.
I DM'd Luke, as per High's advice…he got straight back to me and assured me that the refund process was underway, before he checked.
I'll post up once the refund hits.

                  • +1

@Unsafe: Good to hear. They're pretty reasonable

          • +1

@Unsafe: PayPal protection or credit card chargeback would help if they do go insolvent :)
While I don't think they're obliged to give you a refund, I think they would be happy to give you a refund in this situation if you write to them. So much demand, they wouldn't have any problem at all selling it!

            • @High: I wrote to them 6 days ago.

              • +1

@Unsafe: That is a bit slow. Try sending a PM to Luke, including your order number and email time.

                • @High: Cheers man, done - didn't realise this was a function of OzB - The gift that keeps on giving.

                • @High: I DM'd Luke, as per your advice…he got straight back to me and assured me that the refund process was underway, before he checked.
I'll post up once the refund hits.
                  Cheers again.

          • @Unsafe: I'm worried exactly that he won't come back and that they're riding the pre-order train, taking a billion orders, then going insolvent.

            I'd say thats a bit of a harsh statement…

            • @pharkurnell: I was replying to your comment, paraphrasing you when you said "…I'd not come back."

The sh!t Luke cops from members of this forum is massive. I'd not come back either.

  • This review just came out. Apparently eagle is better than the FE
    https://youtu.be/4ivWfdJs4BU

    • lol. i think that's a massive extension of what they are saying - the conclusion they came to is that it's cooling is better than the FE which helps alot with performance.

BUT, given it's power locked hence very limited in terms of OC, and that FE probably have the best chips from binning process (not confirmed) it will FE will still likely perform better

although all within a few %

  • Anyone have their orders ship today ?

    • If you look thru the thread you will see there were.

      • Those were yesterday, I was wondering if more shipped today.

        • +1

Lots more shipped today, lots more testing.

          • +1

@luketechfast: I ordered in less than 20 minutes of the post going up, unassembled (eagle, no extras) and mine hasn't shipped. While others who ordered later, even actual builds have shipped as far back as Monday. Are the ones with upgrades going ahead of the rest?

            • +1

@Vita85: Same I'm confused how they are building and shipping. I should be in early orders but still no shipping confirmation.

Echoing the sentiment in this thread.

“I purchased an October build it is now October why hasn’t is shipped” :-)

    • +1

I hope my September build will be shipped today…

      • +1

Me too, ordered 1:40 after deal was posted.

        • I'm feeling for us October buyers, going to be late October before it is shipped/ received.

Gives me more time to look into good monitors for it though which is a plus.

  • Anyone able to comment on Auspost shipping time from SA to WA? The estimated time quite long.

    • Mine just shipped now towards Perth ETA Monday the 12th - Wed 14th. I'm thinking maybe there is just very few deliveries between SA and WA compared to other states so flights/trucks are fewer.

      • What were the first 5 digits of your order? Just trying to gauge my spot in the queue.

        • There is no queue. If there was, the people who ordered first would have had them shipped first, which is not what happened.

  • My order has been shipped!

    • +1

SAME! ordered 1:40 after deal was posted

      • Unassembled?

        • Assembled

  • +5

    Hey Luke,

Any idea when you'll be receiving the Oct cards?

Also do you stock single F5 keys?

    Thanks

    • In the other deal posted last night it’s said that there is no solid eta as yet.

Great video confirms the “crash gate” is just a driver issue, it has been fixed and the new driver doesn’t decrease the performance at all.

    Delivery coming today!
    Sent Tuesday to Brisbane

    • +2

Nice! Can you share a picture of the machine when it arrives? highly appreciated

      • +1

For sure - I won't be home till tomorrow but I'm sure there will be plenty of others getting theirs today more than willing to show it off :)

      • +9

Mine came this morning! Distraught that I’m going away for the long weekend and can’t explore but got it up and running and works like a charm. Some (admittedly shocking and hysteric) pics here

        • on the carpet? dude

          • +3

@gorge: I had a twenty minute window to set it up, hence the cords flying out the top like a wig…I’ll set her up properly next week. Promise.

Also, watching the courier this morning bash the whole box into the gate to get it open this morning will haunt me until I die.

        • Appreciate the pics, looks really solid!
