Cheaper than last time by $88 though that deal appeared to have a 300nit 144Hz panel while this one is 250nit 120Hz panel.
Looks to be great value with users saying performance of GPU between a GTX1660Ti and RTX2060

Yes
EDIT: if same specs.
yes.
i have just been told I cant claim by an agent of 28degrees. Interesting.
It has a different display doesn’t it? 144Hz 300nit which I think is worth the extra ~$90 Over a 120Hz 250nit display
Edit: unless you got it from this deal which appears to be identical to current deal
I would definitely pay extra 90 for a brighter and smoother display
I wish they bring back the 144hz panel :(
a benchmark check gives this GPU half the score of a 1660Ti. Where are you seeing this card as better than 1660?
Just from last deal, that’s what was commented by some members
Jarrod’s Tech benchmarks indicate they get similar performance but ultimately depends on the game. Definitely not half the performance though, not sure where you got that fromCheers, i guess i was just looking at synthetic scores.
That video gives a much better real world comparison.
I have the 144hz version of this laptop as portable gaming device and workstation. GPU is definitely in between a 1660ti and 2060. On titles optimised for Radeon performance it can be better than a 2060.
Just make sure you update the BIOS and drivers using the Dell Update tool. AMD also has a specific driver for the G5 SE on their website.
There is also a new update out there to improve the temps even more.

If I were to get this G5 for video editing and wanting to take full advantage of the 4800H during the exporting stage (using Davinci Resolve), I assume that this will result in high CPU temps? And if the tweaks to lower CPU temps for gaming were implemented, then that would slow down the exporting process?
I'm not familiar with Davinci Resolve.
If it is optimised for Radeon, then fine, but if it wants Cuda or nvidia, then this is gong to be CPU bound.
@norkle: Thanks for that. Helps me to know what to look out for.
So Googling, it appears that Davinci Resolve is optimised for CUDA. So Nvidia GPUs it is.
What benchmarks show this at half the score of a 1660ti? Even the shittiest synthetic wouldn't show that
any deal on the vostros?
Ordered.
I was weighing up between the Asus Zephyrus G14 and this. I'd prefer the Asus Zephyrus, but didn't think the better size/weight was worth $1000. Especially as Covid workfromhome doesn't seem to be ending any time soon.
"Estimated delivery: 15 – 23 Oct"
Not very happy about 1 month delivery, but oh well.
that estimation could be wrong. When I ordered it the last time, it was estimating the same but it arrived in 4 days. Just check with a rep if they ship from NSW warehouse.
I did. Should have it by next week. Thanks.
For specs/dollar, is the Dell G17 for $2000, worth the extra $500?
Kind of different builds but in terms of price per raw performance, the G5 SE is better value
How many weeks is delivery from date of order?
I ordered last night, and it says Estimated delivery: 15 – 23 Oct.
Apparently they have local stock, so delivery should be ~ 1 week.
nope, it will take at least 3 weeks. (source: spoke to Dell rep on the phone)
Mine arrived yesterday.
See my comment above.
Apparently this laptop has very bad thermal performance and throttling. Not sure if it has been fixed recently with updates
Please refer to my earlier post indicating the that a lot of the thermal issues have been resolved due to BIOS and software updates. Just use the Dell Update tool
Update the G5SE specific Radeon Drivers from AMD
Potentialy update the GPU BIOS in the link provided earlier.
Damn it. Went to order today, but missed out on the 20% off sale.
Any Dell rep here?
I paid 1583 with 28degrees cc. Can I make a price protection claim?
