For those who are not aware this is to lift up clumps for clumping style litter, but no good for wood pallet litter (as the holes are too big so the pallets fall through).

Kitter and Catmate are good for those after pallet litter double tray (pallets turn into sawdust once wet and shake into lower tray) -

I paired Kitter with Ecoflex and it fit inside perfectly and can use the area on top to place cat food -

However, my cat still kicks out plenty of pallets onto the floor.

I had a similar wood pellet one with two trays from the pet shop (Catmate?). It was horrible. Wouldn't recommend at all.

The cat pee went straight through to the bottom. It turned into a liquid slurry below. Difficult to manage when emptying, trying not to get splashed by it. And had to change frequently because it smelt.

I also hoped to use the broken down wood pellets on the garden, being biodegradable n all.. But it made the yard smell of cat pee. And lingered for long time.

I have since tried the newspaper pellets from petbarn. So much better. I rarely have to change it. It only smells for a brief time after a fresh wee, then gets absorbed. And finally, it's super easy to pour out when refreshing. All dry, no splashes like the wood pellets.

That's my experience. Hope it helps others and saves you time and money learning from my experience. It really was quite gross.

If you put a thin layer of wood pellets in the bottom to soak up the pee, it should take care of the splashing.

      • Thanks! Only just seen this. Haha pays to read the instructions it seems 😂😖

I used the catmate with wood pellets and will never change.

As p3j I’m pretty sure the instructions say to add a scoop to the bottom when you change it.

I use a dog training pee pad as a liner as it fits perfectly underneath, add the one scoop of litter.

Emptying is a easy as grabbing the 4 corners and lifting out. Bottom tray never needs washing - no leakage.
