  • how do send fish in the mail?

    • +1

In a breather bag, with plenty of air and express post for next day delivery.

      • i wasn't aware that auspost allows live animals to be sent via post. How do you control the temperture if your sending on hot days?

        • livestock are shipped in styrofoam boxes which minimise temp changes. lots of online shops do this

@Ccpspy1: Calling my kids grandfather to expect a 30 kgs parcel tomorrow

        • +1

They are also usually sent overnight, so its not as much of an issue. If there is a heat wave we also often delay until it cools down a bit.

        • Austpost does not allow live animals to be sent via post except for bees, leeches, silkworms, harmless insects and harmless invertebrates (page 18) but no one cares (neither Austpost nor animal welfare organisations).

Austpost requires a complaint to be made at the time the fish is handed over at the post office counter, or if the parcel injures a postal worker enroute. Animal welfare require physical evidence of animal suffering, i.e. a dead fish in my hands.

  • Would they survive Australia post to Brisbane

    • +1

Yes, easily. We guarantee DOA as well.

        • +2

not sometimes, they guarantee its dead on arrival.

Of course you will get the occasional death… You get the occasional death if you have fish in perfect health in a clean and cycled tank.

You will get the occasional death when transfering fish between tanks. The average fish keeper has a 30% success rate, before being upset at fish being posted you should be against keeping any fish without a license.

How do you think fish get to fish shops in the first place? They sure don't carry fully cycled tanks from Indonesia to your local pet shop.

    • If they do not survive, then animal welfares will consider taking a complaint. Otherwise, they don't want to know.

  • Seems like a carp deal
