  • Good find I just purchased one FREE delivery thanks for the find

    • Is it a good deal?

      • I'm wondering that too as I'm after a portable 1tb. Anyone?

      • Yes and No. It's not the cheapest deal ever.
As you know, majority of HD made in Thailand, due to the flood, price now is higher, and probably middle of next year will drop. So actually it's a good deal. The seagate HD is quite good, if you break the case and use the HD as an internal, so no worries. If you use as an external, there's risk to lose data from the instable chips of the HD case.

  • the avant garde Hitachi Lifestudio 1TB at some Aldi shops $69 & 2TB at JB $99 - tho not portables. Is this Seagate a portable?

Bring on the wifi Go Flex!

Anyone know whether I can hook this up to my HDTV. the manual says it needs to be FAT16 FAT32 or NTFS…?

    • cant imagine anything thats not fat32 or ntfs,

if you have something thats not (this will be) you can change its format by right-clicking the drive in my computer, and clicking format.

im sure theres more in depth tutorials online

  • fair price, even without free delivery, anyone can just go pick it up. BigW's everywhere

    • It states it's an "Online only special" maybe the stores will price match it though! or just get Officeworks to do it! >:D

  • "Features USB 2.0 or 3.0 plug–and–play connectivity"

What does that mean, particularly the "3.0" bit? Break it down for the techno-dummy, please.

    • you can buy a usb 3.0 connector, i've seen em for about $25 on this site (i think from deal extreme or one of those sites).

but in the box it'll only be usb 2.0

edit: oh i read your question again, and perharps i didnt answer it fully, 3.0 is just faster than 2.0 (if you have a new and higher grade computer). but they are all compatible with each other. Pretty much just ignore it.

      • I disagree…. definitely DONT ignore it!

For a portable hard drive, the USB connection speed is pretty important as USB 3.0 has a transfer speed 10 times higher than USB 2.0 (5Gb/sec vs 480Mb/sec). Granted, you wont notice a 10 times speed increase, but you will notice some difference for sure! If given the choice, a USB 3.0 hard drive is much better considering how big digital media files are getting now.

Good price for a 1Tb USB 3.0 drive, but imo too small. If you only have $60-70 to spend, better to go for more storage capacity and sacrifice a little on speed (afterall- the most important feature of a hard drive is capacity).

        • ah, perhaps you are right, but i was answering shaybisc's questions, and he/she doesnt seem to be the most tech-heavy person out there, i doubt they have 3.0, and i doubt they will get it.

and even if they/anyone did, 2.0 still streams movies and does everything you would want, its just (i doubt 10 times, usually about 6-7) abit faster, and most people dont care that much. when i back up >100GB i just leave it over night.

          edit: also

          definitely DONT ignore it!
better to go for more storage capacity and sacrifice a little on speed

?? are u saying, that they should ignore it?

        • youre being tricky now :)

no…. i was disagreeing with your "pretty much just ignore it" comment.

i completely agree with you that for streaming videos usb 2.0 is perfectly fine- i do it on a regular basis with no issues. the only problem is moving these big files around on usb 2.0…. MUCH slower than 3.0.

i still think people should go for bigger instead of faster (as I mentioned below), but definitely shouldnt just "ignore" the difference in speed. so we pretty much agree- except for that part ;).

    better option imo….

2TB Seagate Desktop Drive…. $99 delivered (better than the previous deal I posted a few days ago for $99 no delivery!)

    • i think your link broke, or maybe its just me

edit: for some reason i cant get on dse's site. hmmmmm

  • What I wanted to know is, if I have a computer with a USB 3.0 port, can I plug this STRAIGHT into it,with no added extras, and get USB 3.0 transfer speed? I gather the answer is no.

    • The way I read it it's a usb 3 the answer is hopefully yes

    • i believe the answer is yes.

      • To me this a good deal I live 100k's from everything so free postage is huge to me

  • For a huge store with presumably a lot of stock, Big W specials on anything good go off faster than specials from the local barrow boy. I am getting a bit suspicious.
