Amazon AU has discounted Echo Show 2nd Gen to $249.

This is the large screen Echo device, with 10'' HD screen, Premium speakers with Dolby, etc.

This might be a discounted so Amazon matches competing deal at eBay Plus for Google Nest Hub Max.

But it's been also a while since this was released, so new Echo Show might be coming?

Both Cashrewards and Shopback have 7% cashback on Amazon devices.

I got the Echo Show 8 back in April and it sits in the kitchen causing far more annoyance than it does help. She'll get things wrong at least 50% of the time in terms of asking for a song or asking for the weather other than where you live. Even with the weather where you live she'll often give you the wrong time or day. I have no idea why people think these things are useful and I kind of relate it to the snake oil that I fell more between 2000-2010 in hifi.

Maybe this version is better as at least the sound quality is pretty good but at the moment mine is just a really annoying would be helper.

voice recognition and response doesn’t change with device or the version (unless it can’t hear you well coz something’s wrong with the mics)

I have all Alexa devices (silly, I know) and this is the top of the range easily. Works great with little things like videos, weather and news, but also much more with other app integrations like smart lights, power and vacuum.

      • That's actually not entirely true. Amazon engineers have confirmed, for example, that first generation Echos have much worse "self-wakeword-detection" (i.e. detecting that the word "Alexa" was said by itself and not triggering. A first generation Echo when reading notifications with the volume high enough will say "Notification from Alexa…" then stop and listen for a command).

  • IIRC this has a zigbee hub built in.
anyone tried to pair it with smartthings sensors or am I just having Monday nonsense?

Phillips hue is the only Zigbee compatible device that I know.

    • Oh does that mean it can operation house wide as the hub for zigbee devices? But I guess for only devices that are in range.

      • yes
zigbee does some sort of mesh so if you put some devices in range they extend the range out

I pair mine and use it as a hub for LIFX, Xiaomi Aqara sensors and Yeelights

what I like about Echo Show - you can run Skype
what I like about Nest Hub - photo frame from unlimited google photos

    • The echo show will also rotate photos from the free Amazon storage. Nest can probably do this too, but on the show you can say "Alexa take a photo" and the show will take a pic, upload it to the storage and put it in the slideshow all automatically.

Both of them should be able to display photos from local storage too. Annoying that they don't.

        • True, but not hard to pop them in amazon drive or google photos 🤷‍♂️

    • Echo show used to be able to show photos from Facebook, it doesn't do it anymore

  • What is the best deal for Nest Max ? Anything around the this price ?
