I'm in the middle of writing a review for this media player, and I can say it's easily the worst player I've ever used. Many people have made complaints on the Astone forums, and at this stage there is no word if these issues will actually ever be fixed.

I am a big fan of Astone, particularly their older generation players (the 300/380/410 etc), but the two new MP series players (the MP-300T and MP-310T) are both rubbish.

Side by side, my old AP-300 to my MP-300T:

    Format support:
AP-300 - No problems playing back every format I've tried
MP-300T - Fails to play sound on any h264 file with DTS sound

    Playback Ratios:
AP-300 - Plays all media in the correct ratio for the file. (eg. a 1080p rip recorded in 1920x800 plays back in the centre of the screen, with the appropriate black borders shown above/below the media to avoid a stretched image).
MP-300T - Stretches all images full screen, distorting anything recorded in wider formats (eg. the new Transformers is shown in 1920x800, and as a result is stretched full screen making everything look skinny)

    Usage:
AP-300 - Haven't found any difficult or annoying features with using the box.
MP-300T - Will automatically start the media currently playing back at the start if you accidentally hit 'fast forward' again already fast forwarding through the media at 32x speed. In other words, if you press 'fast forward' too many times it will jump you back to the start of the media whether you wanted to or not.

    UI and Navigation:
AP-300 - The AP series has a fairly basic menu structure, and while not the prettiest it is functional and easy to use for playback.
MP-300T - The MP series has a slightly nicer interface, that is again functional and easy to use for playback.

Long story short, if you want a quality media player… get an older Astone, a WDTV, or a Boxee… but for the love of god DO NOT get one of these new MP series from Astone.

    • Looks like the new Realtek chipsets have teething issues.

I have reflected the issues you've had with Astone, some of the issues are fixed by the new firmware. We're really selling these units below cost. For its price I personally feel it's a bargain, and great for Christmas presents.

    • its a worry if they cant fix a simple issue not recognizing Aspect Ratios
DTS is trademarked so they have tried to cut the price by not adding it

  • We've had massive success with the MP-310DT, and this is half its price..Besides the PVR, our other special should be quite tempting as well.

    • Your "success" may mean you've sold heaps of them.

It's users' satisfaction that counts on OzBargain,
      NOT vendor's sales.

  • Good price. Good deal.

The only improvement I want from the player is the fast forward speed. It's so slow that 8x is the same as double speed.

  • This is a bargain at this price and from my experience Astone have been very good in fixing firmware issues with previous devices but not so great in communicating the changes in progress. I'd buy this if I wasn't hanging out for the next generation of Android based devices.

  • I bought the MP-310DT from i-tech last time they had a deal and some of the firmware issues have already been addressed with newer firmware. It appears the main differences between the MP-310DT and this MP-300T are the lack of networking, single tuner, USB 2 instead of 3, and lack of DTS decoding. Considering buying one of these for my parents now, as they wouldn't use any of those features anyway.

This appears to be a GREAT deal for a movie player!
