Has been $416 delivered by Myer. Is regularly $499 - Amazon, BigW, Target, KMart….. $487 at David Jones…

    I would probably wait…

    • I think most of the Myer and a lot of the Target were cancelled . Amazon were the good boys of the bunch .

I purchased one of the Chinese knock-off's (from AliExpress) of this for one of the Junior Texan's a few Christmases ago, for around $100 I think, and the quality was excellent.

After a few purchases of other such sets, you soon learn which brands/sellers carry the good copies and which don't, you also need to read the listings carefully and check what you're getting. Must say I've been genuinely impressed with how good some of these knock-off's are, especially when the difference is $100's of dollars!

    • shhh dont say that
      lego fans will slaughter you.
prices have gone up though since overseas shipping costs have skyrocketed the past 6months

      • Haha, don't worry, I have truckloads of the genuine stuff in my household! But as a parent you come to quickly appreciate the generic alternative savings at times, especially with the big/expensive sets.

I think most AliExpress stores still have free shipping options (if you are prepared to wait, order now for Xmas!), the other thing I do is check the same item with different sellers to see their postage options as ideally you can find an 'ePacket' sending option for a few dollars which will usually always arrive within 3 weeks.

But deep , deep down inside , you will always know it’s not genuine. Just a cheap , nasty copy. :)

        • +2

Of course! And I'm not knocking the genuine stuff at all, I've helped finance many a Lego employee! But the Junior Texan's are happy (as long as good quality) and my wallet is too. Whoever is downvoting my comments I'd love to know why you feel that way. Have you never bought a generic brand of any product? Don't lose sight of the fact we are on OzBargain!

    • Sure. I think not paying lego for the design kind of sucks. And for their environmental responsibility (look into their plans) that others won't follow.

As consumers we are fortunate to have choice and the market decides what survives and what doesn't. Lego has outstanding longevity and quality and is deservedly rewarded for that. But designs are copied/cloned with just about every product.

You have the choice to buy the generic or brand name of your medication. Enjo or Sabco? Cadbury or Aldi chocolate block? And so on. There is a market for $600 Lego sets and also $100 copies, your choice!

Nah man , it doesn’t work that way. Lepin thieves LEGO designs. That’s it.

        • +2

Lepin wins, then no longer has anyone to copy.

It's crap that clones happen all the time. Just because it's difficult to enforce law, particularly across borders, doesn't mean it isn't illegal.

Geez man I hope you start a business then some thief undercuts you then puts you into bankruptcy. Well.. no I actually wouldn't wish that on anyone.

I have this set. it was one hell of a build. took me over 3 weeks to get done. make sure you plenty of space though as it is quite large

I always wonder where people put all these Lego sets that they purchased. It's quite a lot of money to be honest.

    • My friend has a display room with custom made cases, like museums.

I know Tex its rocket science 21310 Fishing Store sells for $500 + . Knock off still around $120 . Lego RRP prior to retirement ( Oct 2018 ) $249.99 but easily obtainable $170 range .

I wonder who the smarter buyer is ?

Many retired sets follow this example .

    • +1

Good point, many of the copies are of sets that are no longer available from Lego. Aren't we lucky!

  • Hey everyone.
Check the link below sometimes, at odd hours.
I managed to get one when the sale was on 2 weeks after they said they sold out. Sometimes they refresh the stock. Maybe then you can add it with a reward card for a cheaper deal.

still waiting it down to $499

      • Yeah I managed to get it at $499 and used the staff card to get it to about $450.

By pure chance i checked the page one night and it had 2 in stock. Within about 10 minutes the other was gone.

        • Thanks. I just added it to my favourites for random check..Lego is so addictive anyway
