  • Has anyone ever used the inbuilt speakers in a monitor?

    • My experience is that in-built monitor speakers are low and tinny. You need to buy external speakers for decent audio

yeah agree, why do manufacturers even bother putting speakers into monitors

also the Samsung one is cheaper and I'm pretty sure you won't notice a difference at this price point, also the Samsung is 75Hz with Freesync if that matters

and that has a VESA mount which the Dell is missing

Must admit I use them. Obviously you have a better experience with external speakers or headphones but they do the job when you're limited for workspace and or in an environment where you can't crank them up anyway.

However with different brands and models they vary from satisfactory to terrible in sound quality.

I do every day. Basic speakers are all you need for a media server (not client) or an office machine.

    • Dell sells very few monitors with inbuilt speakers.

If at least mediocre sound is important, I suggest looking at a Dell monitor without speakers and add one of their matching soundbars for about $60.

I do. If your not gaming or using your pc to listen to lossless music then I’m unsure why you wouldn’t want less cords and the extra space on your desktop?

  • Not bad
Was looking for an integrated setup to Velcro a retropie onto

I have a 24" version of this. They were $240 last year and $237 with recent EPP15 deal. Quick review:

+colour calibration was great by default with minor adjustments needed. Great colour accuracy "with consistent colours covering 99% of the srgb colour space“-display ninja review
+3ms input lag (wow!) and 5ms grey to grey response
    +hardly any light bleed
+2 HDMI which was great for console and laptop set-up (I don't have a proper TV)
    +black thin bezel
+/- glossy screen (plus for me)
+buttons don't feel like they are from last decade
-glossy back (finger print magnet at places you can't see)
-no VESA mount (didnt matter to me)
-might not be valued for money for its specs, but I enjoyed using it and got another one for myself when I gave mine to my wife for her pc.

Notes on speaker as above discusses about it. It's not amazing speakers but it's not terrible like those cheap Bluetooth speakers. Didn't get it for the speakers but they do come in handy when moving the monitor to a new location around the house for change of scenery. It's decent for some quick yt video, some games (I do pause the game and grab my headphones for epic boss music though). I hope that helps

    I have the S2419H I bought in Dec 2019 for $197.

    Pros:
2 HDMI ports - great for me cos I use the same monitor for personal pc and work laptop
    Very thin bezel
Built-in speakers actually sound pretty decent (I'm no audiophile) - Having just moved and without monitor/speakers, this was really killing 2 birds with 1 stone for me.

    Cons:
Glossy screen - a bit of a viewing problem from glare when it's facing windows

For the price I paid, no complains.

  • Any thoughts on this one? Looks good value https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/dell-24-monitor-s2421hn/apd/…
