Segway Ninebot KickScooter ES4 (Dark Grey) $799 + Postage @ JB Hi-Fi

120

Looks to be $100 cheaper than the previous JB deal.

Really want one of these but don't want to risk the fine from VicPol. Also, pretty useless during a pandemic, so perhaps it's better to wait.

I've had one of these for 18 months and only recently upgraded - AMA

Were you one of those people that walked it around supermarkets and chemists and not leave it outside? Cuz man those people are annoying.

      • +6

I'm not - though I personally disagree with you. As long as you are respectful of your movements I feel like e-scooters can be walked around without bothering anyone. My mrs who works at Woolies shares these sentiments too.

      • +11

Would you leave an ~$800 scooter on the ground outside of your local shopping complex?

        • +4

people do it with $2000 bicycles all the time

          • +1

@BeRad: You must live in a nice area.

          • +3

@BeRad: I've still not got a lock for mine - the times I've ever needed to leave it somewhere I'd bring it inside and ask whoever if they minded if I left it folded up in a corner. I've never had even the slightest bit of kickback. I'm not super keen on leaving it alone in public - I just get the feeling a flash looking escooter is more appealing to have a crack at than a standard pushbike.

          • @BeRad: People do a lot of things, but would you do it?

          • +2

@BeRad: No they don't, well they might once or twice… but then …gone.

Speaking fir my parter and I who have had three bikes stolen. Chained up…

      • Can you get locks to lock them up to a bike rack?

I worry about what I would do with it while in the supermarket

    • +2

Are you in a state where these are legal? If not, have you had any troubles with them?

      • +1

I'm in Brisbane so fully legal.

      • +1

My housemate has had 1 for about a year now only trouble he had was 1am on a Saturday night for not wearing a helmet (pre lockdown) and I live in Melbourne.

    • what did you upgrade to? I have a M365 Pro and Kaabo Mantis, and one long story aside I love the heck out of them both.

      • +1

Inokim Ox. Loving every minute of it - my housemate just picked one up yesterday too :)

        • I bet, that looks great! I ride my Mantis is single motor mode 95-99% of the time anyway because one beefy motor is plenty, I bet this thing hauls along nicely.

          • +2

@foxpants: Yeah the option was there for the dual motor OXO but I really just didn't see the need. I managed 54km on Sunday with most of that flat out at 45km/h so the true potential for this thing to be a car replacement is becoming apparent!

      • I am waiting delivery of my Mantis Pro, my parter has a Pro 2.

        Really looking forward to it.

    • Would this do fine uphill?
I've read they arent supposed to be used uphill, but I have a really steep incline to get home and was wondering if it could handle it (and not wreck the motor/ battery).

      • It will need a fair bit of help up decent hills. On the flat it feels pretty zippy but it doesn't like hills.

    • How were the suspensions on these?

I was looking into getting an entry level eScooter and test rode the ES4, fairly bumpy ride compared to the Max

  • +3

Hanging out for a deal on the ES MAX.

    • Whats a deal to you? Looks like they're $999 at tactoys

      • +2

Not a bad deal, hadn’t seen that site before, thanks. Unfortunately looks like they’re sold out.

  • I dont understand how these are advertised in Sydney but arent legal in Sydney.

Are the ones sold in JB hifi sydney not the same?

    • previous posts/comments have suggested it's legal to sell one, or that there's no law against selling one, but there is a law against riding one.

      yeah i know, bizarre.

    • +2

It's not illegal to sell them, and they're still legally able to be driven on private property.

      • not illegal if they are registered as a motorcycle correct? just nobody wants to do that

        • +1

You can’t register it as a motorcycle as it doesn’t meet design rules to be passed. The can be sold because it is perfectly legal to ride on private property where you have permission. Just like dirt bikes are not road and footpath legal.

  • Was going to post that it's cheaper to buy an ES2 and the 2nd battery separately, which upgrades the firmware to ES4 anyway. However checking now, it doesn't seem the case anymore, as I did that pre-covid and the prices have gone way up :(

  • +1

The punishment is only a $357 fine and a light strangulation.

  • +4

i used these everyday in sydney and melbourne CBD for years. even in front of police, if anything they were friendly and asked how fast is it and looks awesome to ride on.

only people that would get fined are probably idiots abusing it, or going way too fast on a busy area for example. use your common sense. ive seen some idiots going fukcing crazy fast on busy main CBD streets. idiots like this guy ruining it everybody else that's riding sensibly.

    • -2

Thats a privilige not everyone gets from the coppers

      • +1

        Please….

    • 'How fast is it?' Sounds like a stitch up to me.

      • +1

25km seems to be the safe answer

        • +1

10km is the safe answer :)
