    Wow amazing price :D

  • I dont think the Milspec Testing the L series has over the E justifies the price for a processor that's getting pretting long in the tooth now, there have been some pretty big steps up in the last 18 months, after a bit of cpu stagnation.

  • +17

Heres a review. Good thing is the RAM is upgradable to 32GB DDR4 in dual channel, there are 2 sockets. SSD and Wireless card is easily upgradable as well.

  • We can get the 20% cashback using the TA code?

    • +3

Definitely. It's listed on Cashrewards and referenced in the OP.

      • +1

        Thanks

      • How about with using WELCOMENEW10?

        • +3

No this will not work. Please read here and here.

      • I would doubt that. Snippet from Cash rewards site -
Apply code TA-HOT-L380 at checkout for discount. Ends 11:59PM AEST 16/08/20, unless sold out or withdrawn prior. This laptop is eligible for 3% cashback. Check all other Lenovo cashback rates here, which can change without notice.

Would be interesting to see what happens post 2pm.

        • +2

LOL! I wrote those terms as right now it's 3% cashback, as it will be after 4pm. Trust me, you'll get 20% cashback on this laptop from 2-4pm today.

          • @tightarse: Nice TA 👍🏼

          • @tightarse: Hey tightarse - my purchase never tracked for one of the previous lenovo purchases (despite clicking on the link in the ozbargain thread).

Is there anything I can do ?

            • +1

@Bigredkeg: Possible reasons for tracking failure are here. If it was a TA code, you've got nothing to worry about as all sales are attributed to CR. Simply submit a cashback claim via 'contact us' on CR. Cheers.

          • @tightarse: WAIT. (profanity) me, was this only 2-4PM? I ordered at 11, will it still go through?

            • @JoJoker: Yes, as per the OP and last night's original post.

              • @tightarse: So even though the order is marked as 11am, I'll still receive 20% cashback?

                • @JoJoker: No, your click and purchase must be between 2 & 4pm. Outside these times, you'll get 3%.

                  • @tightarse: (profanity)! I didn't read it properly. How (profanity) disappointing.

      • Is the max cashback amount per transaction? I.e. can I purchase 2, in separate transactions, and not hit the max cashback amt?

Edit: Apologies just read the T&CS in more depth
"Lenovo 20% cashback is valid for 2 hours only from 2pm to 4pm AEST 12/08/20. Cashback is capped at $250 per transaction. Multiple transactions are permitted."

  • +1

Display not IPS for those that care.

    Good value for $660 though.

  • -2

So this code is compatible with cashback ?

    • +1

yes, check the comments and the cashrewards site.

  • any chance we could use this code on L380 yoga?

  • Hey TA, are you able to give any deals on Legion series of laptop?

  • +6

If you had a code for the E14 Gen 2 we'd love you forever ;)

    • +5

with 16gb ram and 512gb SSD plz

      • +2

        And a free puppy!

        • +4

          and frogurt

      • E15 Gen 2 4500u with 24GB Ram and 512 SSD were going for $1050 last week - how much cheaper can they get!?

    • If you bought the E14 Gen 2 during the 20% off sale, it would have been $760 after all the discounts.

  • +1

Specs indicate touch screen and back-lit keyboard as well. This is a killer price with cash back.

  • +3

Just to clarify, does this bring it down to ~$656 if we stack this coupon with Cashrewards?

    • +1

      Yup

    • 👍

    • +5

I Think it's around $672.5 , Cashback calculate before GST

      • how if theres a $250 cap on the second 20% discount?

my mistake, its max 250 cashback

  • Any other models worth looking into around the 14"/15" range?

  • They don't seem to be popular around here, but are there any deals on 2-in-1s? Need something with pen support.

    • +7

l380 yoga is on clearance as well only if TA could get the code to work for us

      • +1

        Yoga would be awesome

  • So is this 2 day shipping accurate?

It wont blow out to 8 weeks like the other stuff right?

    • If you are referring to the reported shipping delay of Lenovo Rygen 5 deal few back then I like to inform that it came back to the originally promised time frame i.e. 4-6 weeks. At lease this is what happened in my case, the item is currently sitting with custom somewhere in Sydney, hopefully ready to be delivered in couple of days time.

      • Thanks for the reply! The lenovo website and chat guy also said 5-6 day shipping for an X1 - Is it safe to assume these come from Australia in that case???

      • And I meant like if it says 2 days shipping time - it will actually leave in 2 days and coming within the 5-7 days right? The 8 weeks was for something that when ordered said 4-6 weeks yea? Thanks!

        • yes ships in 2 days means it'll leave the warehouse in two days and then depending on what and how many clearance it needs while in transit, it will finally be delivered after few days of that.
Again in my case the item is originally sourced in china then DHL took over the delivery part which is quite fast given the current situation. The good part is that you can track it and they do at least a daily update on its status.

          • @slackerman: Ah okay. Thanks slackerman for the useful information :)

  • Does this support an active pen? Looks like no, you need a Yoga model.

    • +1

No. Wouldn't be much fun without the 360 hinge anyway

  • Historical low?

  • +3

My friend wants a laptop with 8gb ram and something relatively recent, I told him this is the best bang for buck and cheapest new with warranty laptop he is (ever) going to see. Am I right about that?

    • +1

Pretty much. I was eyeing on that amongst other ones T480 etc.

      Pretty solid built.

    • Nope. Go get the E14g2. Cheaper, newer, faster, better screen. Only downside is it's E series, which is 'below L', but that's only arguable in build quality.

  • For anyone interested in detailed hardware spec https://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/ThinkPad/ThinkPad_L…

  • Is making the screen ips an option?

  • Damn, I just bought this for $799 yesterday: https://www.centrecom.com.au/hp-250-g7-156-hd-core-i5-8265u-…

I would prefer to have Windows Pro for the extra $30-odd that TA's post includes, even if the screen is smaller.

  • +1

Guys this is indeed Mil-Spec test MIL-STD-810G certified, at this price a nobrainer

  • +1

God, for ~$670 after cashback this is an insane deal.

  • +2

    Why the hype?

    2 year old cpu
Looks to be one of those low colour accurate screens
    Not light
Only 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD
    Bluetooth 4.1

    • +14

      $670

      • I'll respond to all three comments here:

Sure $670 is a pretty good price, but it depends on what you use it on, you need to take into account other factor such as time value of money in addition to monetary value, no point in saving in a few hundreds now, but ending wasting your time due to slower techs.

Currently the E14 gen 2 (comparable specs) could be had for less than $800 on the Edu store (or similar on the normal store after cashback) (or $839 outright on Student Beans Lenovo store which anyone could access) and it's mostly better new techs so reducing the effect of the price difference

If we're looking at the upgrade option , the low value proposition diminishes so that shouldn't be considered as a big factor.

But I guess that's just me

        • +2

It's an 8th gen i5, sure it might be slower than the latest 10th gen but you'd hardly be 'enduring slowness'. Most laptops, even ones that are around $1500 come only with 8gb ram and 256ssd.

Where are you getting the sub $800 E14? Maybe post a deal then?

For $670 it's a solid laptop, especially for those on a budget, light users or students.

        • +2

So to summarise both your comments -

          Why the hype?

Sure $670 is a pretty good price,

        • +1

I think for $670, the target market is not gonna be for people looking for latest tech anyway.

the preposition offered here is not latest and greatest, rather cheapest and most value for money. The price to performance on these machines are unbeatable.

Edu store is not accessible to everyone, so can't really compare.

    • +4

For even $800 you will be hard pressed to even find a similar specced laptop in even months to come, at $670 this is madness

      4 core CPU (8 threads)
      Backlight keybaord
      8GB DDR4 RAM (expandable to 32GB)
256GB PCIe SSD (upgradable PCIe Gen 3 x4 slot)
FHD touchscreen with on-cell touch with Anti Glare (A VA panel not TN)
802.11ac Wifi (Upgradable WiFi card to latest 802.11ax)
      USB-C 65W charging
      2 X USB 3.1 ports
2 X USB-C ports (full feature, Data, power and video)
      HDMI 1.4b port
      Card Reader
      Local warranty

      • No display port?

    • +2

Because you're getting Thinkpad quality, upgradeable everything, lots of ports, USB charging etc

There's more to a deal than basic specs

      • is this one business or business lite quality - the think pad E series is avg in build quality though

        • +1

I'm honestly not sure if this is above the E series, reviews suggest a fair bit of plastic. Both are still way above the HP / Acer crap you usually get at $650 though

          • +2

@Merlict: I got an old L460, if that is anything to go by, solid as. My work elitebook is no match.

            • @[Deactivated]: Will this be much faster than the HP 840 G3 Elitebook???

              • @Homr: Depends on cpu. I recall my last work laptop came with gen 7 intel cpu - dual core. So this one will be much better have 8th gen quad core.

My current and prev HP elitebook tend to heat up a fair bit.

                • @[Deactivated]: it's an i5 6300u

Surprisingly it still retails new for $1563

                  • @Homr: I see. Things havent moved for years until 8th gen kicked in.

    • its 1.465 kg, thats light.

  • +2

Very limited knowledge over here so hoping anyone can give me a pros/cons list of this L380 deal vs the ThinkPad E14 Gen 2 (AMD) mentioned in the original cashback post.

    https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/laptops/thinkpad/thinkpad-edge/…

Seems only about $100 different in price after cashback so not sure which way to go.

    • Soldered RAM but better processor.

If you get this I'd recommend configuring to 16GB of RAM because you won't be able to upgrade later.
