Thank you for your feedback. We will try and work on it!

Hey give a warning too of the speed of each delivery. I hate ordering something and forgetting that Australia Post takes like two weeks to send something across state lines with their regular service. Makes me wish I just ordered it on Amazon.

        • I hate ordering something and forgetting that Australia Post takes like two weeks to send something across state lines with their regular service.

I've never had anything take 2 weeks. Even earlier in the year when Auspost was getting hammered, I had items delivered with regular post from QLD to VIC within the same working week. Maybe I'm just lucky.. but usually the delay is with the store/seller not dispatching the item promptly, rather than Auspost's delivery times.

Makes me wish I just ordered it on Amazon.

          Amazon uses Auspost..

      • +22

You can send one or two masks as a large letter for $2. 20 (under 2cm in thickness).

No need for tracking on such an inexpensive item.

        • Thank you. We'll focus on alternatives shipping methods.

    • +30

When was the last time you had to send a small non-letter item via AusPost?

For example, the last time I checked $8.95 was the lowest possible charge for an untracked, <250g non-letter item from Melbourne (3000) to Sydney (2000). And that excludes any packaging/handling costs.

$8.85 seems very fair to me.

      • Sendle can work out cheaper, depending on where most of your orders are coming from.

        • +10

You could be waiting weeks with Sendle. They are seriously hopeless in my experience. Last time they used Fastway after sitting on it for a week. Local sydney delivery 7 business days!

        • +6

Yeah not worth using anyone other than Auspost. They're sometimes a bit congested, but other carriers are just useless. The common one is fastway and it just damages your brand image. Never use a cheap carrier.

          • +1

@incipient: I've never had issues and it always seems to come a lot faster than standard australia post. I know their system is just whatever truck on their network is going that way anyway, so ymmv.

          • +1

@incipient: Aramax, let's call them by their new name so they won't get away with a name change.

          • +8

@incipient: Friends don't let friends use Fastway

      • +1

Surely a business sending things in bulk can get some kind of discount

      • I've posted game discs for around $2.5-3.

      • These can fit in envelopes can't they

@[Deactivated]: LOL. I use sendle for FB and ebay sales, about 10 per week. Never had an issue but I guess I'm one of the lucky ones :o)

            • +1

@Miyagi: Agreed, never had an issue with Sendle. And you don't even need to shower and start your day. Can just continue about watching Star Wars and eating Cheezels!

            • +2

@Miyagi: Obviously a YMMV, but for where I live in inner Sydney, Sendle means +2 working days for delivery lead time (over and above AusPost) and some of the shoddiest goods handling practices I've seen.

          • @[Deactivated]: I just searched my email for the word sendle and I don’t remember having any issues with those packages I received in the past.

    • +2

Will definitely work out better rates! Thank you for letting us know.

    • +4

If you’re buying multiple masks it’s alright. Four masks for $28 delivered is pretty good.

  • +27

Can't really blame the Seller for expensive delivery charges when that is pretty much the price Australia Post charges for standard parcel delivery. The only way to get around it is to send the parcel from overseas.

    • +8

The masks I bought got delivered in a large padded envelope with $2.20 of stamps on it.

    • +6

Thank you for understanding! Trying to balance cheap mask for everyone and also shipping. Possibly start having free shipping soon! After we work around the numbers

      • +16

Should ask AusPost for an exemption or discount.

You are doing Australia a service.

        • +1

Why? It doesn't need to be sent as a parcel. It can be sent in an envelope.

          • @jv: And if it gets wet or rains?

            • +11

@Turd: Buy the waterproof one then…

              • +3

@jv: Cant spare the $6, need to pay the fine for stopping in a taxi zone with my disabled parking permit to pickup a disabled elderly.

                • +1

@Turd: Maybe they can pack it in a plastic bag before putting in the envelope.

                  • +1

                    @jv: Let's hope so :)

But then again gretta may get angry again, too much plastic usage.

                    • -5

                      @Turd:

                      too much plastic usage.

nothing wrong with plastic. it can get recycled.

                      • @jv: In the ocean!

                  • +1

@jv: They are definitely packed into plastic bags before sent out. Love your feedback. Will look into shipping through envelops :)

                    • -6

                      @ausmadefacemask:

Will look into shipping through envelops

                      or envelopEs…

                    • +8

@ausmadefacemask: I think he's been looking around how OzBargain works, realised all we want here is eneloops

                    • +1

@ausmadefacemask: I don't know what JV has said to you as I have them permanently blocked.

Unless the item is perfectly flat, you should not use an envelope unless you are lodging as a non-letter (parcel post) item unless you want to open yourself up for an AusPost claim for repair of the high speed automated mail sorter.

                  • @jv: Plastic zip lock bags are cheap and reusable. Will cost a bit tho but offset the shipping by a lot

                • +1

@Turd: good grief man you have the memory of an elephant!

    • Blame greedy Australia Post. The most expensive compare to the rest of the world.

      • +1

our minimum wage is also much higher than the rest of the world… unless you want to pay our posties $5 per hour?

      • Don't like the underpants look?

10,000 masks a week. Wow. Will become instant millionaire in no time at this rate. Should of jump on the bandwagon. Sigh.

    • +2

      those are rookie numbers

    • Yup. Good old keyword engine URL. Obviously not as powerful anymore but it's pretty simple. Niche market with urgency. Simple website and easy product to make/source. Good on OP for taking the leap and "having a go" as one (in)famous person once said.

  • +1

    Make a few myself from old t shirt..same design..nearly 0 cost.

    • +9

i just been using old Bonds undies.
smells not to bad if you turn them inside out.

      • +5

So your mask is white with brown spots?

        • +1

Or, worst case scenario, brown with white spots…

  • What are the masks made of?

    • +1

inner layer - 100% cotton, outer layer - 100% cotton. 3-ply has an additional outer waterproof layer

      • +2

Victoria DHHS says polycotton outer to be water proof and cotton for other 2 layers.

Lincraft sells polycotton for $8 a meter and cotton $8 a meter.

Be foolish to buy not at least semi water proof outer.

Cheap for a reason. Thanks for pointing that out!

  • Are these masks in stock and ready to ship?

    • The cheaper ones are, it's on the website.

    • +1

Yes! We managed to manufacture them as fast as possible!

  • +9

..amazing. an australian made face mask being posted on ozbargain

  • If I ordered a combination of 2 ply and 3 ply, would they be shipped in different batches? How long of a wait on the 3 ply ones?

    • They will be dispatched in one batch. The earlier you order them, the faster we can get them out.

      • +2

How long on the wait for the 3-ply ones though?

        • +1

This is my question, too, OP. I've just dropped you an order for 10 masks (mix of 2-ply and 3-ply) and would like some understanding of "what by when".

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: We'll get them sent out by Monday latest for those who have ordered yesterday. We were bombarded with orders and have managed to get more than half of the orders.

            • @ausmadefacemask: Thank you very much. I paid for Express Post, so hoping to get them by the end of next week.

  • +2

What sort of processes are in placed to insure the masks are made according to spec and without contamination?

    • +9

No matter how clean the facility, you would still wash in warm soapy water and allow to dry in the sun prior to using…

      • +1

        I agree with you

  • Do you make 3 ply?

    • -6

      Toilet paper ?

    • We do make 3 Ply, with water-resistant outer layer. These been such a demand and can't keep up. For now I cannot drop the price. Hope you understand.

      • +4

We sure can understand. Why drop the price when there is a demand. That means more profit.

      • +1

        I couldn't find link to 3 ply?

        • +1

scratch that. got the link now.

  • +3

So I have no idea on face masks, how better or worse are these compared to those surgical ones? These just look like material from Spotlight sewed together to make a mask? I'm actually sincere with my question, not being an A hole.

    • It's better than nothing, but not as good as an N95/P2. Daily washing is essential and letting it dry out as well

      • I get the whole it's better than nothing but my question is actually how better or worse.

        • definitely not as good as surgical mask in terms of protection. As both layers are just cotton they are unlikely to block viruses very well. However, mask is always better than no mask.

          • +1

@muddrex: Correct, no matter how efficient the surgical masks/ homemade masks are, you NEED to combine them with social distancing.

          • -2

            @muddrex: Not always

    • Vic Gov recommends 3ply, not 2ply mask, with outer to be water resistant material. Thus the 2ply masks are better than nothing, but not what you should buy if 3ply masks are available.

  • -2

    Pumping 10,000 mask weekly.

    That's $49,500 to $159,500 revenue per week…

Not a bad little earner… I hope you're paying the GST on that….

      • +8

Like sure they could do some gardening but I'm not sure what else you expect a small manufacturer to look like? Doesn't look like anything out of the ordinary to me.

        • +1

10,000 a week in that warehouse? Something fishy going on. Western suburbs of Melbourne is a COVID19 hotspot. I wouldn't want to be indoors with 20 other people making 10k masks a week.
