All items in the sale Intel only at the moment. Could be a new trend

I love that there is an Alienware laptop with a 2070 that is cheaper than another Alienware laptop with a 2060…

2070 laptop is $2699 before discount
    2060 laptop is $3199 before discount…

2060 lappy has a bigger SSD but other than that and the GPUs they seem identical. Strange.

Haven't looked much into it but that 2070 laptop does seem to be good value at close to two grand after discount

    • +4

bare in mind that 2070 lappy @$2699 before discount has only 8 GB RAM and 60Hz screen

      • Ohh truth. That's what I get for not actually clicking into the listing. Man, 2070 with 60hz is a bummer.

        • +2

          haha that's like putting a Ferrari in a traffic jam. That's a terrible combo, 2070 with 60hz

          • @bunnybash: But you're still getting value in the traffic jam because of the looks

    • +3

That's because one is the old M15 and the other is the new R2

  • Any recommendations on a desktop with SSD?

    • +3

      Custom build if you can.

      • +2

        I wish I could… I'm a noob.

Watching custom build tutorials already makes me anxious _

        • +7

          Thats a shame.
Pay a local kid $50 and have them throw it together for you.

You really do get better value, and these days all the components really only fit in their correct locations.

The only important parts on the install is CPU and motherboard standoff screws in line with the holes.

Everything else will either fit, or not And if you do it wrong, simply wont work, its not gonna break.

Regardless, if you want a desktop, and arent keen to learn (Thats fine), buy from a computer store, not an OEM supplier.

          For example;

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/553642

        • +3

You can do it! or buy parts and see if a local PC shop can assemble for you if it really makes you nervous.

resources like https://pcpartpicker.com/ can be helpful.

          • +1

@simulacrum: Can anyone recommend a good website / You Tube vid for building a pc? I'm also new and a little overwhelmed by the information out there!

            • @Milbo00: I'd like to know as well!

            • +3

              @Milbo00: The Verge!. ………no
No not them, thats just a joke for the fellow nerds out there. Never them.

Honestly, LinusTechTips has so many "ultimate ________ build guide" videos that will show you every step.

It actually doesnt matter really if its current or not, almost everything for the past…. gee… id go as far as 10 years, fits together the same way.

Intel and AMD have different cooler/socket methods, but even thats not tricky.

So just pick any of his guides, and listen, but more importantly, watch. His camera men are good at showing what needs doing visually.

I built my first PC using the motherboard manual; they give you step by step pictogram instructions usually for the "bare system".

            • +2

@Milbo00: As @MasterScythe says below watch some popular build vids/guides by the likes of LinusTechTips. I think pcpartpicker has a basic compatibility test for parts… You can also look at previously documented user's builds and base your build on them. You'll be surprised how easy it is.

            • +1

@Milbo00: Here's a decent LTT one from April

        • +2

you're a noob until you try it! I built my own when my computer knowledge wasn't great. It was much easier than I thought. Hardest part was putting the thermal paste on the CPU, and if you follow a guide that is no problem. The rest is just plugging things in.

          Edit:
once you work out what you think you'll put together, put it up on the Desktop forum at Whirlpool and people will comment on your setup. Helps refine your choices!

          • @Bozman: I'm keen to learn and try it myself! What concerns me the most is… my lacking of computer knowledge. e.g. I only found out Ryzen is a CPU a few days ago when I started researching for PCs… :'(

I don't understand what each part does, and all the technical terms sound very confusing to me.

          I'm gonna leave this here:

Henry Cavill Builds A PC From Scratch
          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKJFwoeAefw

        • How about this deal, they will build it for you?

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/554641

          • @superforever: This looks really good, but would that be an overkill for a non-gamer like myself? (I play Sims 4, if that counts :D)

            • @fortunecookie: Or you can go to their website and select the one that fit you and your budget.

You may not need fancy case, high power video card, etc.

    • +4

      Seriously consider techfast for value.

      • +1

Thanks pw2002au! just had a look and their PCs are definitely much better value.

    • Yes, it is recommended.

  • +5

    Only expensive monitors available there.

  • +1

    XPS 13 i5-10210U, 8GB, 256GB at $1,519.20 delivered seems decent.

$180 cheaper than JB Hi-Fi deal

Warning, you will wait 4+ weeks for delivery.

    • I got a desktop in the last deal and it came within 2 weeks.

    • +2

JB's model is touch, this is non-touch

  • I'm after a laptop myself and see the M17 R2 alienware with 2070 max q is $2719. What are people's thoughts on this? Last gen processor though, not sure if that's a large setback to current gen?

I really would like to buy a legion 7i but around $3200 for 2060 and no stock for 8 weeks plus. The 2070 is a further $350. The legion does have a 10875 processor and magic 500 nit screen.

    • +1

Laptop processor gens wont do much at this stage. Especially since youre getting discrete graphics also.

there's a difference, idle power and such, but Imo nowhere near enough to justify the price.

    • +1

The Lenovo 7i looks good but there only seems to be one spec on the Lenovo Aus website atm and its about $4600. Although you can get $1000 off this price with code HEXUNBOX for a limited time.

      • Ah, they have deleted the $3200 with discount code model with 2060 this morning. $1000 off is a great discount but $3700 is really killing my budget.

        At $1000 less I think I will purchase the M17 r2, just hope I don't regret it.

  • +1

Damn, was hoping the G5 15 SE would go on sale again.

    • +1

I also want to purchase the same, but its out of stock :(

    • +1

      Same here!

    • +1

15 SE will come back in the Aug time frame, currently we are short on supply, we have replace alot of these with the new G7 17inch model, 2070 version at $1999

      • Does the g17 have a 2070 or 2070 Max q

        • +2

          these are Max Q 2070's

          • @[Deactivated]: It clearly does not show that they are Max Q variants so are you sure about this? Dell sells the G7 15" in the US and these have Max Q 2070's which are shown as this in the specs section but the 17" just says RTX 2070. Big dissapointment if Dell has listed these incorrectly.

          • @[Deactivated]: Just hope to double check as others are getting conflicting info. Are these 2070 Max Q or Max P?

      • When you say Aug.. Is it start of Aug or end of August, given we are in July now?

        • most likely end Aug or early Sept, this is not 100% as supply is very tight on this.

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: How much will g5 15 se be? The one with 144hz and 5600m?

            • @baldur: sorry we dont have pricing yet, i would assume it will be the same as the previous sale.

              • @[Deactivated]: Do let us know if that comes online again! Keen to get at 1600 like before. Instant buy from me.

                • @Jacko3000: that pricing was kind of a mistake i think. you will be able to get at around 1800-1900, though.

      • Very interested, when can i get the G7 17inch model??

      • Great, the G7 model seems great

  • anyone found a way to get Dell to STOP calling you? I'm receiving pretty much daily, a call from them!!

    • Are you a buyer for a government department or large company? I have never had a call from them other than to book a service call time.

      • No, I’ve only ever bought one monitor from them and it was about 18 months ago

    • +2

Last time I had this issue, I pretended I was a salesman and tried to sell them something.

    • If you know it's them then answer with, "Good afternoon, [Insert State] Police Service, Constable Jones speaking. How can I direct your emergency?" I bet they'll soon stop calling you.

Need this deal back. What a ripper!

    • But… like why would you want an all in one? Obviously you're not going for portability, you'd get a laptop for that. It's just a desktop PC made with laptop parts built into the screen, except now you can't upgrade anything.

      • +1

We have those at work, and I service them.

All parts are upgradable actually. Its rather good.

        And why? Aesthetics.

        • They are? I've had a look at an AIO a family member has and the only upgradable things were the memory and the storage.

          • @Void: Well, theres not much else in them.

In the dells, the WiFi card can be upgraded also.

And most are using socketed processors.

What processor was in the one you saw that was soldered?

      • Aesthetics. Nice to tuck away on a desk / study. Don’t need the portability of a laptop when I have a work one.

        • How do you tuck it away? Isn't it just a much heavier monitor? Where would you put it?

          • @Void: Tuck away in to a nook I mean. Not having to worry about a case and separate screen.

Look mate it’s horses for courses really.

          • +1

@Void: Cupboard? Under the bed? Behind the TV? On a shelf?

What sort of help do you need deciding where to Tuck away a "heavy monitor"?

  • AW3420DW Alienware 34 inch monitor is listed at $2499 on eBay. What a complete rip off!

  • Dell XPS 15 Laptop 7590 9th Gen i5-9300H 8GB RAM 512GB SSD Intel UHD 630 FHD for $1.8k seems like a good deal? IPS 100% sRGB 500-Nits display.

    • Spending $1800 and only getting 8GB RAM doesn't seem like a great deal, that kind of money should be a device that's going to last a good few years, 8GB RAM doesn't seem like it's future proofing. But also very much depends on what you're going to be using it for, maybe it will meet your needs.

      • Ram is not soldered, easy to upgrade

        • Oh nice I thought XPS was always soldered

    • It all depends on what your needs are. I would rather get the Asus Zephyrus G14 for something in that price range, but I would want to be able to game on my laptop as well as do work on it, as well as have killer battery life. Colour accuracy isn't hugely important to me, so the smaller gamut wouldn't bother me.

    • I purchased the exact same laptop except with a gtx 1650 for $1599 on the 20th of January with the dell eBay sale. XPS 15 7590, i5 - 9300H, 8gb ram, 512gb ssd, gtx 1650

  • This deal still appears active, btw. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/548117

  • Dell S3220DGF 32" curved monitor for $599.20 seems like a really good deal?

Was recently posted as a deal for $699 here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/554408

  • No love for Ryzen?

  • i bought this keyboard from Dell one month ago https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/547386 and i still have not received the keyboard yet despite they have replaced courtesy to 510K keyboard (due to Dell cannot allocate original stock) so keep in mind that you could expect longer wait for stock to be delivered

  • How is this Laptop for the asking price:

  • Bought this one.
    Dell 27 7790 All-in-One 10th Gen i7-10510U 16GB 256GB SSD

  • No Ryzen inside devices, I wonder if they are that popular that got all sold out hence no listing.

    • probably supply related.

  • Looking at:
    Dell XPS 13 7390 2-in-1 Laptop 10th Gen i7-1065G7 16GB RAM 512GB SSD UHD
    or
    Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 7390 Laptop i7-1065G7 16GB RAM 512GB SSD FHD.

Both have the same specs and Iris Plus Graphics, the only difference seems to be UHD vs FHD. Is and UHD screen worth the extra $500? Will it look that much better?

    • +4

IMO at 13inch I rather save $500 and go FHD. UHD would be more useful at 15inch or higher.

    • UHD will consume the battery faster .. any good content will appear same on 13" UHD or FHD … may make a difference on 15" …

13" means mostly work related use and you need better battery life for that … FHD in my opinion.
