Unfortunately I bought it when it was being shipped from US and the expected delivery date is 18/08 :(

Should have waited for this. Shipped from AU

Mod Edit 24/8: Now $271.30 (from $264.39) Deemed a small price fluctuation, so deal updated rather than expired.

    • You'd only tell the difference if you have a high end PC and run games at 720p or 1080p resolution.

  • Wow awesome find, so tempting! But with zen 3 out this year it is tempting to wait

might not actually be the case: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLtOMpJx-T4
Seems that amd's new 4000 series are actually more of a "Zen 2+" rather than Zen 3, and that makes sense given the pandemic.

      • Is that just the APUs though, not the CPUs?

      • Yeah that's just the APU variant, the prior APU were zen 1.

Desktop zen 3 is definitely out this year but with covid who knows what will happen

      • +2

You should do more research on a topic before publically posting misleading information.
The video you linked refers to 4000 series APUs (CPU with graphics). These have always been one architectural generation behind the normal CPUs (eg 3000 series APU = 2000 series CPU). This is nothing new or unexpected. The 4000 series CPUs are launching later this year and will feature an updated architecture (Zen3). AMD has stated publically that the global events of this year have had no major effect on this.

      • Jay's just talking about lame APU's he's deciding between 3600 & perhaps 4600 which is new architecture

  • This or the uk 3800x? Gaming machine. Probably need to keep my current 980ti but would likely upgrade that in 18 months.

    • +1

3600, save the difference for your graphics card.

  • Can anyone recommend an ITX Mobo to go with this? Trying to look but getting confused between b450/550 etc. Not after anything OTT.

  • Important messages for items in your Cart:
1 item in your Cart has changed price.

AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6 GHz 6-Core/12 Threads AM4 Processor with Wraith Stealth Cooler, 100-100000031BOX has decreased from $266.67 to $266.45

  • Would this price go any lower?

    • +1

It has now, also at $254.68 via Amazon US

  • $258.59 sold through Amazon US although shipping does take a week or two vs 2 day Prime AU

  • PC Case Gear is $100 more (including shipping), they really have gone down hill over the last few months.

  • I wonder is this sold by AMD directly or by the distributor, if it is does this arrangement not screw retailers over? Seems pretty anti-competitive behavior isn't it?

    • Amazon is the retailer. Surely they make (slim) profit?

  • Gonna upgrade my 1600. Is there any downside combining a b350 motherboard and ryzen 3600? Or should I wait and upgrade my motherboard when ryzen 4000 arrives?

    • Depends on the motherboard. Some VRMs will be fine, others might struggle a little.
      What model do you have?

  • How much of a speed increase would this be over an i5 3570k that has been overclocked to 4.4 GHz?

    • To do a full system upgrade right now it might not be worth it, depends on what your GPU is and if you can upgrade and only need to get a CPU, motherboard and RAM.

I went from an i5 4690 to an i7 4790 with a GTX 1070, and it didn't have such a large impact on average FPS it made a massive improvement on smoothness and 1% frames.

Did an upgrade after issues with the old system to a Ryzen 3 3300X system and again had an improvement on overall performance, especially 1% frames.

What do you currently use your computer for, and if it's gaming, what sort of games are you playing?

      • I use it mostly for gaming and just general use. I mostly play single player games.

Im running 16gbs of RAM and the GPU is a rx 570. I have a 1440p monitor but most new games will only run on low settings at that res. Metro Exodus is a good example. Otherwise im at medium settings at 1080p. I would like to be able to play newer games at 1440p and potenially 4k. I know i will probably need a 2080 to achieve this.

Can i get away with just putting in a 2080 or am I going to be bottlenecking the system too much with the 3570K?

        • +1

I wouldn’t be buying a GPU right now, far too close to the release of the newer ones from both Nvidia and AMD and they’re still crazy priced being relatively old.

If you really feel the need to upgrade your CPU, grab a Ryzen 3 3300X (PLE have it for $195, in stock soon), get a 16GB kit of 3200/3600 DDR4 like this kit and something like a MSI B450m PRO-VDH for $119.

So in total about ~$425 and sell your old gear and should only be a few hundred out of pocket. Then wait till the new GPU’s are released and decide to get one of those or a second hand GPU.

The MSI MAX boards will support Ryzen 4000 series so once they’re out then decide if you want to upgrade. Don’t be put off by the 3300X being 4c/8t CPU, the real world differences between it and the 3600 even with a GTX 2080Ti are marginal, by the time you’ll need a 6/8 core CPU just grab something in the 4000 series.

          • @Nousernamehere: Some are selling the 3300X for $219-$239. At the higher price getting a 3600 for $266 is a no brainer.

But if PLE ever get stock & keep the $195 price tag, what do you think about $195 vs $266 ? Mostly gaming.

            • @Noobist45: Of course, if there’s only a $20-$30 difference you’d be silly to not go with the 3600, but in reality most B&M computer stores are selling the 3600 for ~$300 so the 3300X is easy to justify compared to that.

But it all really depends on what GPU you have. 2080Ti? Get the 3600, although if you can afford the 2080Ti doubtful you’d bother with a $266 CPU.

If you have a Radeon 580 then no point getting the 3600 over the 3300X.

Hardware Unboxed have done a fair few good reviews in comparing the 3300X and 3600 with different GPU’s, should help give you an idea:

              https://youtu.be/5uQGT3GReRk
              https://youtu.be/fG6PB16gm78

              • @Nousernamehere: I've seen those and there's very little frames between them.

If the 3300x is actually $195 I'm thinking that's my preference. Possibly upgrading the CPU at the end of the year, not that I imagine it would be necessary.

      10%?

I'm on i5 [email protected] & although a Ryzen 5 3600/4600 upgrade is super tempting I think I'll hold off & just upgrade GPU in September.
If you're wealthy & keen by all means upgrade but the actual gaming benefit likely isn't worth it for the financially challenged among us.
The thing that stays my hand is although AMD is kicking Intels ass they will recover but when?
Next year we'll likely see 5nm, DDR5, PCIe5 & USB4 with a new socket so I'm at least thinking of waiting for Ryzen 5000 & probably by then or 2022 Intel will pull their finger out.
From 2001 to 2006 AMD was awesome before Intel crushed them for a decade.
Last year AMD did 10 billion, Nvidia 12 billion, Intel 70 billion.
I hope AMD continues to dominate yet I agree with Porthos, fear buyers remorse & for me personally as a peasant I'll holdout a little longer & just run Ampere/Sienna Cichlid with my ageing Haswell.

    • I bought one and am also upgrading from an i5 3570k @ 4.4 GHz with an rx 570. The i5 bottlenecks even an rx570 massively during games such as valorant, cs, kingdom come and cod warzone. It is always at 100% usage. 4 cores and 4 threads are barely enough for newer titles and it really shows. Looking at comparison vids, the 3600 should get you an extra ~25% fps and will get rid of all the micro stutters the i5 causes.

      • I went from a 3570k to a 3600. My video card is a 1080ti. Biggest diff i see is in multiplayer games like bf5, it ran ok on 3570k but id get constant microstutters with everything on max (single player was fine, just multiplayer). Initially thought it was ram but 16gb made no difference, 3600 fixed all issues.

  • I ordered one yesterday and used express shipping as it was free… said it would deliver between 6PM-8PM Monday (tomorrow) but the order details don't even state its been shipped yet?!

    • +1

Could be same day shipping. My Prime orders are usually delivered next day after dispatch (even from VIC to SYD) so I guess if you ordered express it would be same day

      • +2

Yeah I'm hoping so but I'm in Perth, so next day shipping doesn't happen too often.

But usually Amazon's estimated times are pretty bang on for me so here's hoping!

        • So, my CPU did arrive on the expected date.
          Arrived 9pm on Monday night.

          Crazy fast delivery!

And the CPU is a big improvement for me over my R7 1700.

My X370 had a very recent bios update that didn't support my 1700, but was catered toward the 3xxx series and newer, and it's much better than before.

I'm able to finally use an XMP Profile for my RAM and they're going to 3200mhz without any dramas.
Previously, I was extremely lucky to get 2993mhz with all sorts of wild and wacky custom settings.

Happy to keep this for another 6ish months before doing a bigger upgrade.

          • @Deviner: Glad to hear, that’s amazing mate. Have fun with your new system 👍

  • Comebined with ShopBack 5% and the extra $5 for new extension. Thanks OP.

  • Wished I had checked this earlier. Mine from Amazon US just got dispatched :(. Gotta wait till like the 14/08….

    • Depending on the carrier it will arrive sooner. Mine from Amazon US says 14/8 but if i check FedEx site its saying 30/7.

    • same mate. I ordered mine on the 20/07 and my estimated delivery is 18/08. Shipped via Fastway. Is yours Fastway too?

      • Mine was yesterday via Fedex ordered on the 21/7. Guess I got lucky since ETA is Friday 31-7 :)

  • apparently the new features in the xt variants will be featured in the 4000 series. 3600xt has better single core performance, and so the 4600 will probably have an even better single core performance and be able to OC to higher than 4.6ghz. can't wait…i imagine the launch price of the 4600 will be ~$360-400, 3600xt down to ~$320-360, and 3600 down to $280-320, but who knows.

  • Was just about to pull the trigger, but looks like they ran out of Australian stock.

    • +1

      Back again

  • I chose to get the 1600 AF for A$169 with a B450 motherboard that has 128mb BIOS.

I plan on jumping to R5-4600 in 1.5yr when its around this 2600 price-range.

    • Link?

      • Last I saw it was $199, I'd just go this 3600 for the difference

Edit: You can possibly pre-order it for $170 delivered here

  • AMD Ryzen 3 3200G is only about $160. Is that equivalent to i3 and this 3600 equivalent to i7?

    • Ryzen 3 / i3
      Ryzen 5 / i5
      Ryzen 7 / i7

Those numbers only show what tier a CPU is in each generation, if it's an i7 from 5 or so years ago the R5 3600 will be a lot better.

  • Lowest has been $208?

  • $254.68 now via Amazon US, but also still only on $8 more at AU

    • Waiting for it to drop to $210… not in a rush

  • It's at $215 now

    • +1

      Nah, it’s a fake seller.

The seller name kinda gives that away..

      henanshengdayizhinengtingcheshebeikejiyouxiannfnzv

      Seems legit.

      • +1

Touche, makes sense why it wasn't up on OzB yet! Was on my Amazon main page.

        • +1

Yeah a lot of them have popped up, I took the risk a while ago with a few others and they send a package, it just never comes to you at all haha. Amazon refund the money right away but even still, I’m surprised there’s no way (that I can see) that you can report these obviously fake sellers.

  • now it's saying it will arrive 15/09…
