  • Thanks, impulse bought the Echo 8 combo then canceled to order the 5 because the 8 can't be used as a full screen clock (seriously, look it up).

is this for the RIng doorbell 3 or the 3+. Your titling is confusing…

    • -2

Obviously the non plus. Hope deal is good for you have a great day.

  • Can echo be used a screen to watch ring camera?

    • +1

It could with ring 2, don't see why it wouldn't with this one.

      • I have the original ring and echo spot and it works.

    • Should work… mine echo show 5 automatically shows the ring2 camera when bell is pressed.

Lol so much for a doorbel…

    • +5

Ring is rubbish, save ur money

    • I've had a Ring door bell and spotlight camera for two years and they are reliable devices, the cloud backup and accessibility through mobile is great. They fixed the security issues including introducing two factor authentication.

        Cool story. Ur lucky.
I’ve had ring since 2016, had the first doorbell, updated to the second one. Have 3 outdoor cams and all the solar attachments.
I have 100mb down and 30mb up internet connection and have echo show 8

I can say my experience is that it is shit, it does an ok job not 9 times out of 10 it doesn’t connected when u want it to.

        • +2

Same here. Most of the time when I need it, it simply says Live View Ended, and can't connect to the doorbell. I've installed Mesh Wifi so the connection should be stable…

    • What do you recommend over ring?

      • +2

I’ve only had ring so can’t comment on others.

I would go nest if it was available in Australia, I think I will wait for eufy to go 4K and then update then.

      • I have the v1 doorbell, internal cam, and also have the sengled snap cameras. Snap is free 7 day access. I haven't bothered with the ring subscription but still find it very useful, remote intercom etc…

      • Eufy

    • +2

works fine for me… but only have the ring 2 door bell.. sorry to hear you haven't had a good experience (i don't use the subscription though).

@scud70 Hi. I recently installed Ring 2 with door bell. Slightly laggy in notifications when someone is at my front door, but it's all good for me. However my Ring app tells me I have 10 days left of my trial subscription. May I ask you as you don't have subscription. Can you view any notification videos at all? If I'm not wrong, with subscription I can view about 1 month back worth of notification videos.

        • Hey Lone star… i think we have to understand that this is going through external servers for us to view so it's not going to ever be perfect! which I've come to terms with that :)

As for your trial question, once the trial is over you get notifications and you can view Live (which i do all the time when i get deliveries or when kids come home i usually try to scare them as they walk in with the intercom … haha but all of those features work just no recording so if you missed the notification you can't go back to view what happened.

          hope that makes sense :)

    • I have ring 2. Wasn’t great on battery but got an electrician to connect a wire to it. That made the ring work properly with connection response.

    • +2

i have to agree, i have a ring 2 door bell its disappointing. I used to get notification and get to watch a live view of the van driving away with my package because it took so long.

I hard wired it in which meant it didn't sit in standby which helped and it has always been close to the wifi access point (was single point now mesh). As a battery device i was about to rip it off the wall and put in a normal door bell, its manageable with hard wiring but not as slick as the website says.

      • I also have the ring connected to the echos which say “someone is at your front door” and can be heard from outside and let’s the driver know we are being notified.

      • How much did the electrician cost?

    • mine seems to be working fine. i used to have issues like the others on delay connecting but after installing a AP at the front of the house and rear, connection issues are gone and almost instant. give or take 2-5 secs to connect. no drop out since. the other thing i'm bumped is battery dies very fast but very good to make sure the postman doesn't just leave packages anywhere.

consider Eufy if you do not want to pay subscription fees

    • +1

The problem with Eufy is the dynamic range, it blows the hilight really bad and can't be changed. Notification is very delayed and angle of view is narrower.
Eufy has much better resolution and you can zoom in and still be able to read car number plates. And I can't do the same with ring.

All the above are based on comparing with ring doorbell 2.

I ended up selling the Eufy.

      • +2

upgraded from Ring Doorbell (1st gen) to Eufy.. would never look back

        • 1st gen is bad. I upgraded to gen2 and most of the issues went away. I still am not happy with paying annual subscription for cloud storage but I accept that for now until Eufy fixes the HDR/dynamic range issue.

    • I totally agree 💯% with you.

We just changed our ring door bell to eufy, thanks to the Amazon special posted here last week. We also added the sensors and a camera.

No more fees plus the video quality is awesome👍🏻

I have had Ring Doorbell 1 for 12 months now and very happy with it. Motion detection is the only tricky part to tune but otherwise I love it. Easy access through Mac app, android tablet app and through my Echo 5 and 8's. I have wired it up myself via a adapter purchased through ebay with 10 metre cable. Bit tricky to setup in the roof space to the cupboard but has worked almost flawlessly. Even found out who it was that was 'borrowing' my parcels from the verandah.
