SSD prices are dropping fast these days.

  • Can I claim cashback for a member of my family as well as myself? They say maximum 3 claims per household but also maximum 1 claim per product.

Missed it by few hours. Already placed order for the $193 deal today.

    • i nearly bought it from there too then i stopped in my tracks when they wanted to charge me $2.63 for the most basic payment methods. And lucky I did.

  • Any recommendations on an external drive mount?

  • Hmm this or the Samsung 1tb qvo for $120?

    • if you are using the SSD for pure storage reasons such as photos, videos, etc. QVO is sufficient. If you want to run programs like photoshop/video edit or play games then you should get this. The difference between the two is a DRAM cache.

      • QVO has DRAM cache.

        • yeah but after that 1GB DRAM is full, you'll get sustained writes similar to a rotational disk (ie ~90MB/s instead of ~500MB/s).

@jztilly: That isn't it exactly. It's the SLC cache of which there is 42GB on the 1TB model, the rest of the drive is the slow writing yet fast reading QLC.

When the SLC is full it drops to those low speeds, but note while the SLC is being written too the SLC is also writing to the slow QLC, meaning you get to write about 50GB at 500MB/s before it comes to a crawl.

I don't think many of us download from the internet anywhere near those speeds, while disc media and cheap USB don't transfer that fast. So you'll only notice those bottlenecks when transferring from a fast SSD to the QVO, when a large amount of network traffic is writing to it or you are creating large 4K videos. Reading from it is super fast, so that isn't a problem.

If I was getting a QVO I'd get a 2TB, with almost double the SLC cache and the QLC transfers at double the speed (160MB/s). You'd probably never notice it was a QVO vs an EVO.

@FabMan: Thanks for this explanation @FabMan

@FabMan: thanks for the info bud, if i knew that before - i may have gotten a 2tb qvo instead of a 2tb mx500 :D

  • Hi All, do we need to include Serial Number in order to claim Samsung cashback?

    • Yes, it requires the SN on the actual drive

  • I’m considering getting 4 of these for 4tb to run in raid 0, and get rid of my 660p, any advice ? Would this be better?

    • Seems to be a limit of 1 per customer, but you might be able to buy in multiple transactions? Has anyone successfully tried this?

4TB sounds like a lot to lose if one drive goes though

  • Even though it says In Stock on the product page, I'm getting this message when adding to the cart.

Sorry, we don't have enough 'Samsung 860 EVO 1TB 550MB/s V-NAND SATA SSD MZ-76E1T0BW (117621)' in stock to fulfill your order: we have 0 available. Please change the quantity on order in your shopping cart and click update. Then try to checkout again.

    • =S that's a pity. I'll mark the deal as expired for now.

    • Yeah can't order.

Paid a bit more bought from Shopping Express eBay, need one.

      • They've restocked or something, I was able to order

        • Yeah can add to cart now but may be stock from supplier may need longer to arrive.

Anyway I have already ordered from Shopping Express eBay.
