Yep, avoiding for the sake of Kogan, not worth the hassle.
I shudder at the thought of dealing with Kogan support.
Also, keep in mind that this is also foldable, so you can get on a train/bus with ease.
And unlike e-scooters, which is not legal in every state, this is a pedelec (i.e. you have to pedal for it to generate power, so think of the electric motor more as a booster to your pedal) and is legal.
Would like an e-bike but not a fan of the look of these, but full understand they are designed to be portable when you need to fold them.
Ozbargained.
Can you make it faster?
Yeah pedal harder.
What's wrong with Victoria? Everything is illegal.
Everyone who bought one must be a Uber Eats driver
I know it's a joke, but a serious answer is this wouldn't be for them. They go for full motors so don't have to pedal at all in most cases, and also the 45km battery range wouldn't be enough for many.
Dang ! sold out
there is a new, non foldable verison of this (tdp02z) which looks alot beter but can't find anyone willling to sell this in australia yet.
The 2nd gen’s battery is not replaceable and can’t be taken out. And for people who’s willing to bring it indoors for security or any other reason, it may not be as good as the foldable first gen. Range seems to be on par with 1st gen so I think overall gen 1 has better value.
Bought similar bike before but with 235w motor Airwheel R5
This motor is way too weak for my taste… not sure if Xiaomi motor is better.Saw an idiot riding a bicycle with a petrol motor last night. He was doing about 60km/hr on a main road and not wearing a helmet.
The funny thing is most e-bike are limited to 25km in Australia. You can purchase an electric skateboard and hit 40km without hassle.
I think 32km would be a sweet spot for e-bikes. I guess they don't like the idea of too many people not paying a petrol tax in this country ;-)
Does anyone know if the Kogan version comes with the kickstand?
The International Version is meant to come with a kickstand but it's not clear from the Kogan listing if they're selling the International or Chinese release. You'd assume International, but this is Kogan…
Cheers, that's what I've gathered. Like you said, as it's Kogan who knows. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
I have this bike more than 2 years now. Love the concept, electric-assisted. Makes it easy when climbing hills.
really want a full size mtb with electric-assisted.If anyone in Melbourne has a change-of-mind, I will buy and will send courier to pick it up.
Mine shipped out yesterday afternoon with Allied Express (QLD). I'm not sure if this means the stock was already in Australia. Fingers crossed
Got mine today by Allied Express (2 men turned up with a rented Budget rental truck actually).
Accepted delivery but then noticed silver thick duct tape sealing the box which looks like it has been re-sealed hmmm.. hopefully the one I received isn't a return/used one. Will check over the w/end when I get a chance to unpack it.When you get a chance to unpack - do you mind letting me know if yours has a kickstand included? Thanks
Will do, but nah I dont think its included, I did some research before purchasing and found a heap of kickstands listed on gearbest and aliexpress… unless this is some random other version which does. Also noticed the non-chinese version also doesn't have bluetooth enabled - in other words you can't add it to your mi home app (i believe)
International version should have kickstand and metal pedals, but no Bluetooth. Chinese has bluetooth and plastic pedals. Also curious to know which model you received.
Did your Allied Express tracking code ever work, or did the blokes just rock up?@railspider: Oh thats kinda good to know. Still haven't opened it.
Strange you ask about tracking, nope didn't work from the link provided by Kogan.
But then I get a text from Allied this morning saying to download their app, 5 mins later I got another text saying the driver is 5km away. So I downloaded it to check whats going on, the app is poorly built and only suggested that the driver had 10 packages on board (i think its a generic msg lol), then 1hr later I heard the door bell.
1hr after the delivery I received another message saying they are happy to advise the item has been delivered and to use 'Australian Express Couriers' app for any home delivery requirements I need… Kinda bizarre lol.
Maybe the text triggers that its almost being delivered on the day?@ezza: Unpacked it and put it on charge.
It does have a kickstand installed yes!
Most annoying part was taking off random plastic bits stuck on it, the tape seems to be celo-tape which is annoying to remove.
Safe to say I didn't received a return/used bike, I guess someone just placed extra tape on the box to keep it sealed (maybe).
Will try a 'covid safe' battery assisted bike ride in VIC tomorrow once fully charged.
Got mine just now. Unpacked and charging. Looks like battery is full. All 4 dots are lightning up but the charger has red light according to manual it is charging. Comes with kickstand and the bracket is welded on the frame so looks like international version for sure. Got the silver tape on the box too just like @ezza. Yes the tapes are pain in the arse to remove from the frame. Leaves a little bit of residual and need to be cleaned.
Yep.. still a happy chappy though!!!
Going to try a ride later today.Me too. Enjoy!
For those who can’t be bothered to google how to turn on the Bluetooth connectivity, enter “Set” from the menu, quickly press up then down multiple times until you see “Bluetooth On”, then search for the bike from the app or scan the QR code sticker under the computer.Edit 1: looks like it doesn’t work. Perhaps lack of hardware. Anyone had luck connecting Bluetooth?
Edit 2: just checked the hidden menu and there’s no Bluetooth hardware unfortunately.
Did a 12km ride.. battery at 41% already ;-/ yikes maybe i'll do an overnight charge instead of a few hrs last night (when the indictor turned green within 30 mins).
Also my seat lever thingy seems be quite stubborn - the latch when fully close over.
Couldn't work out how to use the battery assist, didn't even realise it was on (maybe). Tried googling can't find any sort of instruction on what the menu options mean as you go down/up the screen. Anyone worked that out?
Also some advice - check your tire pressure first, around 1/4 into my ride I realised they needed to be pumped up before leaving the house lol.Once you start riding you will be able to choose from different modes. Just rode 10.5km and battery at 44%. I used boost+ when climbing hills. The seat bracket wasn’t tight enough and my seat started moving in the middle of my trip. Had to tighten it properly after getting home. Front break wire wasn’t tight either and I pretty much lost front break 70% of the time. Had to adjust it when I got back. I didn’t read the manual in full but hold up button to turn on both front and back light and hold down button to turn on only the back light. When you are fully stopped you can change settings.
Edit. Just checked the tyres, the front was on 11 PSI, back on 14 PSI (out of the box) LOL.. maybe this is why I didn't think it was working right.
Good thing I've the portable Xiaomi portable tyre inflator, I wacked them up to 38PSI.
This article suggests 35 - 40 PSI is tight depending on weight.
https://www.rcgeeks.co.uk/blogs/news/mi-xiaomi-qicycle-elect…User manual did say 35-45.
Yet to receive mine (QLD), shipped with allied express on 22/6.
I'm in QLD also (not delivered yet) - out of interest, is your tracking working?
The tracking isn't working for me. Victorians seem to have received theirs.
Mine was just delivered (Brisbane area) - the tracking never worked. The delivery driver just called to check if anyone was home (he was out the front).
Now .. need to secure the Bike and battery … anyone got any suggestion for locks and accessories? :)
Still got an issue with the seat clamp it won't seem to sit right, been googling but can't find a fix.
Although I did find this Youtube clip - pretty game Aussie dude to do this interesting mod to avoid peddling https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqU613UW8_A
Unfortunately my Qicycle is faulty, the electric motor doesn't engage properly or provide assist. I've never dealt with Kogan support before but so far it has been OK. We'll see how it goes.
Yikes… how did they deal with it?
The clamp on my seat doesn't fit/clasp well I was wondering if I should take it up with them or just deal with it.So far it's been pretty typical and OK for a large company.
I tried to fix the problem myself after a few google searches (couldn't fix it), so I contacted them via their support contact page.I shot a 2 min video showing the exact problem and condition of the bike. You can upload a video with the support question (their website recommends it), though I had to compress under 20MB to get it to actually upload.
The first reply from Kogan came 24 hours later and asked me to do a 'power cycle of the electronic device'. This appeared to be a generic response to an electronic problem. I replied that I did this to no affect.
The second reply came almost exactly 24 hours later again, and asked if I wanted a refund or Kogan credit - once they have my option they will make arrangements at their cost to return the item. They also said that if they cannot diagnose the problem or find it was caused by an accident by me, there will be costs involved.
I have replied that I would like a refund, and now I am waiting for an update on how to actually send the bike back. Fortunately I saved the original box it came in.
My thoughts are that if there is any problems when Kogan's technicians diagnose the fault, I will refer to the original video. I also said I'd shoot a video showing the condition of the bike boxed up so there is no confusion there.
Fingers crossed it goes smoothly from here.Wow i'm suprised they offered credits/refund.. then again sounds like you have given everything / if not gone above their needs.
I might try them for this seat situation - when I did a google/you tube search eveything about the seat is about the post going down, my issue is the clamp isn't staying in place well which I can't find a solution for. I just dont want to go through a whole return rigmarole eeeks@ezza: Yeah I am so far very pleasantly surprised. I think you are right though, the video is pretty clear - the motor is making some weird noises and is clearly got a problem.
Are both of your seat clamps causing a problem?
Well the one on the bottom doesn't seem to be doing anything, I actually thought it was a spare until I noticed I can't remove it.
@ezza: It's very strange that both clamps aren't really working properly or doing anything. When you've got them 'unlocked', have you tightened the round nut on the one side and then locked the clamps again? (I'm trying to envisage the problem you've got)
@S3ISOR: Yeah I know.. i might video it next time I put the bike together and send across to Kogan for their thoughts.. I dont think I am doing anything wrong. Its a bit hard to explain in words.
@ezza: What is the production date on the box? sometimes they may clear the old stock.
@eecchhoo: Good point.. i dumped the box at the parents house I have no room in my apartment will need to this!!!
Dont get my wrong the bike is fantastic but this sear clasp thing isn't going to last long.@eecchhoo: Mine was 2018.11
Final follow up for those interested in the Kogan warranty process for future reference:
- Support Query lodged 2/08/2020
- Return accepted on 5/08/2020
- Free return shipping label via Allied Express took a while to receive, and originally had the wrong address, but eventually received the right label on 11/08/2020
- Received by Kogan returns (Mark's Electronics in VIC) on 17/08/2020
- Refund received 18/08/2020 (no email from Kogan, just received a refund notification from payment vendor)Overall it was pretty positive experience (I was expecting a bad outcome based on a lot of the online reviews) - I had the same customer support officer the whole time, and he called me directly when I asked him to via email (to sort out the return label).

While I would vouch for the bike, my experience with Kogan hasn't been great and it alone would be a deal breaker.
