  • What's the seating arrangement?

    • Cosy!

      • Covid-19 guaranteed!

No flights from Melbourne for some reason? Still listing A330 for SYD-PER - so that's something.

    • +1

Covid…too much uncertainty. Jetstar sale also doesn't have MEL flights.

Looking at raw data Syd will be the new leader in Aust new covid-19 cases very soon !
I hope she mandates masks use and it had better be very soon .

    • What a strange "interpretation" of data you have! Suppose that's typical of the Melbourne - Sydney rivalry - very myopic from a Victorian!

      Today's announced cases:
NSW 20 (almost half of yesterday's)
      VIC 249
NSW cases barely register compared to Victoria over last 14 days

Compare the large number of community transmissions from unknown sources in Vic! (set view to last 14 days).
That's the real worry in the Victorian case numbers, which isn't the issue in NSW! Hence the long lockdowns & need for masks in Vic!

I hope NSW governments and citizen wont make the same mistake Victorians and it governments made.

        • Hopefully all of us can learn from the Victorian outbreak!

It's not that hard - social distancing, good health measures like not going out when sick, proper hygiene, & getting tested if in doubt.

@INFIDEL: Doesn't look good to be honest. Shopping centers, pubs, restaurants and cafes are still packed.

            • +2

              @michaelTito: Yes.
I lodged a complaint on Friday about lack of clear warning signs on Brisbane buses.

On Friday, 4 people boarded an off-peak bus with only 8 on board. They sat in the seats directly in front & behind me. So 5 people within 1.5m! I quickly moved.

I was stunned! There was no need for such closeness.

As they didn't speak English, I recommended graphical signs that could be be understood across languages.

Seems little that can be done on public transport. I didn't even receive a response.

          • +1

@INFIDEL: man even still, people are out here in force, its no wonder its spreading so much, these people will only learn when they, or someone they love catches it.
in our local group here, one of the supermarket workers was requesting people stay at home (instead of going out for food each day - IE do a week of shopping) you should have seen the backlash of "were allowed to go out/ its one of the reasons to go out" this is why we cant have nice things.

            • @wisc: I was overseas during the H1N1 pandemic. Where I was, locals thought it was brought in by Foreigners like me. They blockaded hotels & there was a lot of verbal abuse.

Talking reason is useless when people are panicking / panic buying. People don't think clearly. Things can quickly turn nasty. They may attack anyone seen as in their way.

The people on the bus came from cultures with little social spacing. They were more concerned with what they had just bought, not who was around them. I've accidentally made that mistake - once & was told to back off. So I was understanding.

But, without a simple sign to point to, it wasn't possible to communicate the need for distancing. So they are likely to continue doing it. I was a little concerned they may see my fleeing from them as some sort of racist move! I just wanted more than a few cm of distance!

        • +1

Agreed, especially with this planned BLM protest.. I mean come on people.

          • @Ghost47: Nothing I can see about it in Melb (where your profile gives your location).
There is a probably small climate change protest planned for Melb this weekend?
If so, they would be blocking near empty streets! Organisers say distancing will be enforced. And IF this is going ahead in Melb - mask wearing will be mandatory.

It's a cry for attention, while most of us are focussed elsewhere! The threat worked - it got media attention.

There is talk of a BLM protest for Sydney. Again, it will get lots of attention, even if it doesn't go ahead.

The PM & thousands of others attended the footy there with little concern…

Social distancing is possible in gatherings.

Despite dire warnings about disasters if previous BLM demonstrations went ahead - it showed there was very little to worry about.

Now family gatherings - that seems much more dangerous, given the number of confirmed covid cases due to those in Vic!

            • @INFIDEL: You were talking about Sydney and its citizens so I was referring to the Sydney BLM protest that is being planned.

I meant I hope that protest doesn't occur!

I was going to complain those were yesterday's numbers (and they are) but unfortunately the speculation is today's number for Victoria will be 375 and for some reason these rumoured numbers are usually pretty accurate. :-(

        • I will also add everyone's like "thoughts and prayers" for Victoria publicly but Victorians complain on the OzBargain forums and it seems like an immediate downvote (see parent and my comment above parent).

        • Those were the latest announced numbers, as I stated. They were updated to those as I posted. That's different to today's unofficial numbers.

The Vic case numbers are bouncing around - all far too high. Community transmissions from unknown cases is the real worry in pandemics - little or none outside Vic but high there.

      • Hopefully it doesn't get worse in NSW! Cases are rising from the Crossroads hotel! Definitely don't want it to be as bad in Sydney as it is in Melbourne!

I am still waiting for refund on my cancelled flight for 3 months ago.. if you are unable to fly for whatever reason, don't expect your money back!

    • +1

Ditto. Lucky it was a business expense so it'll help my tax return, but still annoying!

      • +2

I'm out of pocket $2.5k for flights Virgin cancelled June… I'm in Melbourne and have to somehow use their restrictive credit in one booking by August 15th, and travel insurance won't help due to exclusions for pandemics and the airline being in administration.

        • Had the same issue, contacted my bank & done a chargeback(Goods and Services purchases were not received). took some time but got my money back.

    • Is it a refund or travel credit?

      • it was fully flexible fare and refund was requested well before it went into administration.

I did 1 for singapore airlines and one for virgin on the same day. Singapore airlines returned int FULL, Virgin NO!

    • Virgin's in Administration now. So any new bookings you make now with fresh cash, Administrators are legally required to meet the booking conditions placed. So if Virgin cancels on you, they have to refund.

      • that's the theory.. they just delay it as much as they can

    Hmm ko melbourne

  • Finally a deal where I can use my flight credit for something hah! Based in Brisbane looking to visit Cairns
