Update - Face masks/coverings will be mandatory from August 3rd for ALL Victorians.
Dan Andrews just announced that it will be mandatory to wear a mask when leaving the house in Melbourne and Mitchell Shire lockdown areas, anyone caught not complying will face a $200 fine.
This goes into effect 23:59 July 22nd.

Anyway, up to you to decide what you want to do. At the start of the year, you didn't need to adhere to driving speed limits, to red lights, to littering regulations, to any number of things that some could perceive as inhibiting your 'freedom'.
The state governments have constitutional powers that they are tapping in to, and have imposed a few additional regulations. Again, up to you if you don't want to comply. And, same as at the start of the year, you will probably be caught and fined for non-compliance.
Do whatever; just don't impact on anyone else while you do it.
