These are indeed schmick pencils - a really great price for a pretty extensive size (72) tin. These are the ones artists use, they are far superior to normal grade colour pencils - they have a much higher pigment level. These are wax-based and therefore a lot softer than the oil-based variety. The comparable (but arguably better) oil-based are from Faber Castel (Polychromos).
At this price they are a no-brainer if you're into art or drawing. At this price point they are about 50% off.
I've posted these on sale a couple of times over the years - best price was AUD$40.70.
Note that Prismacolor have gone down the path of cutting costs at the expense of quality recently. They still have nice, soft, waxy leads, but cracked or split leads are apparently very common. Numerous artists have sworn off them for that reason.
Clicked because of "soft core". Disappointed.
Next I read the full title first :P.
Thanks, Christmas present for the partner sorted.
I never realised how expensive good coloured pencils were until I decided "My Grandmother really likes drawing and colouring, I'll buy her a nice set of Faber Castell". "Wait, It's seventy dollars for how many?!"
Tempted to buy this for her, they are apparently good for shading and blending. The cheap pencils are too hard and sod-all colour comes out of them.
