Is anyone even considering these deals when it comes to travel credit as an offering?

Personally I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot barge pole. Tell 'em they're dreamin'!

"$450 Qantas Travel Credit". Ha ha ha. Funny people. Even by Qantas' own estimate, there won't be international flying at least the next 12 months. And with increasing risk of second waves, even domestic flights might be hard for some states & have to be cancelled.

I think Amex need to wake up, read the room, realize we not in Kansas any more, then reduce the annual fee to nothing or almost nothing, and ditch the travel credit (that's going to be a PITA to use with COVID).

By all means go back to the old way of doing things when we can all go back to the old way of doing things. Goodness knows how long that will take though.

No problem with the $450 credit - domestic tourism may have it's bumps but shouldn't be hard to spend. Or if you flight gets cancelled it becomes Qantas credit.

The actual WTF is American Express Lounge passes. That's not something you'll use in 12 months.

Is nice to see more credit card deals - keep em coming. This deal could do with more points to be attractive.

it's been a lot better i the past though for the same annual fee… either 100K or 120K QFF points

  • Travel!?? ha ha ha! ha ha ha!

  • I was on live chat with them last night about this exact issue. I have $450 Qantas credit that need to book by 3/12/2020 and according to the rep on the chat is that all credits have been extended to 31/3/2021. I cannot find this anywhere legitimate to back this up. Has anyone else seen or heard of this?

Secondly, I asked if my annual fee comes around again in December 2020, does that mean I have $900 credit to use on a single booking or 2 x $450 to use over 2 separate bookings. His answer was the 2 x $450 - which I find to be even more of a slap in the face as I would have just paid $450 in annual fee. Looking a doing a product swap around October if I am honest.

    • The Amex travel website will tell you any travel credits you have and the expiry dates.

You've only ever been able to use one credit per booking. It's a weird situation where they're extending credits, but the system wasn't built to handle this situation and it's so arcane that it wouldn't be easy with any sort of haste that these decisions are being made (credit extensions) to fix it.

In the past when I've had multiple credits (multiple products) they've made multiple bookings to use them up - one booking for outbound one for return, or one booking per person (where return flights are cheaper than 2x one-way) and then linking the two bookings so we're seated etc together. So you have options.

Sorry for being critical but this deal has been better in the past. And given the circumstances this is a pretty average return on investment.

    • seems like they are testing the waters with reduced points

The link doesn't match the deal from what I can see?

  • where can you travel to

People hopefully won't bite at 80K, which will hopefully increase the likelihood of 100K and 120K deals returning in the future
