  • So am I correct in understanding that anyone is eligible for this offer, but you have to be under 30 if you apply in a branch?

    • +1

Yes, open to all but needs to apply online if above 30

    • +7

"must not hold or have held a Westpac transaction account"

  • I’m interested in the age requirement

    • Yes, what is the skinny?

    • +1

It has to do with their new savings account that gives under 30yos 3% interest I'd imagine. Could be stricter ID process in place to stop misuse? E.g. parents opening account in kids name.

Don't think I've ever had a Westpac account, easy money, thanks OP.

  • Can I open one for my child?

  • +3

I just asked a Westpac rep on web chat if under 30 that apply online are also eligible. The answer was yes. So stackable with the 3% interest offer.

    • 100%? Can't find it in T&C

      • +1

Same here, that's why I asked a rep. Lets just say I will be blowing up if the rep was wrong!

        • Hi jacko milz23, did you open westpac choice acc and got your 50$? Under 30 and applied online as well. Also, interested if 3% interest rate was applied. Thanks.

        • It says we need to deposit $500 into Westpac Choice Account

Does that mean the minimum balance inside the Choice account must be above $500, or can I just transfer $500 into Choice account from a 3rd party bank and then do a internal transfer to Westpac Life Account (so that I can take adv of the 3% interest rate)?

          • +1

@Hellcrusher3304: Nah but unless you study full time you should deposit $2k into choice to waive the $5monthly fee on the choice account. I believe it's just a deposit required and no minimum balance, however it must be above $0 at all times and account balance must be higher at the end of the month than the start of the month. Lots of hoops to jump through but not impossible.

    • Offer is limited to one eligible account and is not available in conjunction with any other offer.

  • I had an account but closed years ago so I'm not eligible for this offer am I right?

    • No, you won't be eligible.

      Westpac's rules are ridiculously strict.

  • I am under 30 but I have had a Westpac choice account for 12 years…Bummer

  • Still waiting for a decent Westpac credit card points offer…

  • After Westpac's recent negative stint in the news, I think I'd rather keep my morality for $50, but thanks for posting.

  • It just gave me error message its experiencing technical difficulties after entering all of my personal info

  • -1

What if I had a Westpac Bank Account 2 years ago? Would I still qualify?

    • +1

Did you read the second last sentence in the OP?

  • +1

In regards to - Customers that deposit at least $2,000 each month if you want to avoid the $5 monthly account fee.

Can I just deposit $1000, then withdraw, and re-deposit again?

Also I assume there is no requirement to keep the required deposit off $500 in the account?

  • +1

I did their last deal and when I went in to close the account the teller was irritated at me because I was closing it on a Saturday, for $50 not worth the bother, last one I did was HSBC which was $100, well worth it.

  • Has anyone been able to verify their ID online and not been required to visit a branch? I'm over 30 and have been asked to visit a branch to verify my ID. I have called Westpac and was told every new customer must visit a branch to verify their ID when opening an account.

    • Yep I only had one form of ID (passport) when I made an account online, and had no probs all online (i'm under 30) account opened and started using the digital card instantly. I was quite impressed with ease of it all.

  • Did anyone get their bonus $50?

    • Yeah I did yesterday :)

      • How long after the 5 transactions did you receive the bonus?

        • +1

          8/6/20 - deposit $500
          16/6/20 - completed 5 transactions
          16/7/10 - $50 credited to account

          • @rzg: Takes a month to credit. Thanks

          • @rzg: When were you charged the $5 monthly fee?

            • +1

@macr0hard: No fees charged but I moved 2k in and out to avoid the fee

              • +1

@rzg: Thanks. Is the $500 included in the deposit? I.e. should I deposit $2000 all up or $2500?

                • +2

@macr0hard: @macr0hard Just did $2500 just to be safe, think you’d be right with just the 2k though 😊

                  • +1

@rzg: thanks. Did you just deposit $2k and a few days later took it out right way? I dont need to wait for the whole month right?

                    • +1

@macr0hard: I took it out all but $50 and then done my purchases, doesn’t have to stay in the account as long as it was deposited at some stage :)

  • No minimum size for the 5 transactions?

    • Nope

      • Do these 5 purchases need be tap and go?

        • +1

I did them all as tap and go

  • Is the sign up process easy or tedious?

    • Easy for me, never been with Westpac and didn’t have to go into branch.

      • Ah cool. What type of identification do they want. Do you have to post them photocopies of passport or anything?

        • +1

Nah just drivers licence and Medicare did the trick. Online verification during the sign up, account was then opened instantly.

  • Can anyone here over 30 confirm that they have received the $50. The westpac chat just told me its only for under 30s :/

    • +1

Did you read the terms and conditions before you applied?

To be eligible for the $50 offer you must: open a new Westpac Choice account online between 01/07/2020 and 06/10/2020, or in branch if you’re under 30 years old; and deposit $500 and make 5 eligible card purchases within 30 days of account opening.

      • +3

I read it briefly and understood that because I'm over 30 I'd have to sign up online to be eligible. Which I did.

        • +1

Fair point. Did you try pointing that out to the Westpac representative?

  • +1

Can confirm this current deal is available for over 30s who meet the requirements. Before July it was only for under 30s- hence my confusion.

  • Has anyone had problems using this card with eftpos (not online)? I’ve tried 3 times now and it keeps declining. The card is activated with money in it so not sure what’s happening, on the phone with Westpac now and just got hung up on. I chose eftpos savings as the option at the machine, not sure what else to do.

    • Press Cheque, not Savings.

  • does anyone know if transferring money out using "Beem It" counts as a purchase ?

    • Unfortunately as Beem It uses the Eftpos payment system it does not count. I found the easiest and cheapest way for me was to do five 1 cent card transactions to my phone bill.

      • People are saying that Beemit counts for the 3% interest. Don't see why it would count in this case.

        • My best advice is to not rely on Beem It as I have heard people from both sides of the fence. I think on Whirlpool (I can't find the exact thread at the moment) someone said that Beem It did not work for them. Below are the exact terms and conditions.

Have many people got their $50 yet? Trying to workout how long the $50 takes after your 5 payments.

    • It takes 45 days

Laughably boomer product. Their passwords are limited to only 6 characters. I don't want anything to do with that level (or rather lack) of security. Their online identification process doesn't seem to work either, even trying 4 types of identification. As a test I got some credit reports sent out using the same ID and they worked fine. Same IDs also worked for opening accounts with other more modern banks.

    • +1

Their passwords are limited to only 6 characters

Ridiculous… Password length is the most important factor.

Not only is it 6 characters max, but NO consecutive characters and NO special characters. Incredible level of incompetence.
