  • tempted!

    • very tempted. I've been looking for a cheap tough camera.

      • eyah i supposed i need a compact slr although i have a dslr

  • +3

Didn't take officeworks long to drop their price. Its been 249 for ages.

yeah. i think OW has a spy on ozbargain now

    • F**ing sick of officeworks, with the way they play their game 5% price beat is not just worthless, it's infuriating.

Officeworks is not ever getting my business again with their "remove stock from the shelves" or "only ever have to beat the price for one person before we adjust nationwide" tactics.

      Stuff em.

  • not being very glove friendly is a bit of a deal killer for me.

    • Which pocket waterproof camera is actually glove friendly? I've looked at the Sony, Panasonic and Olympus range. NONE are glove friendly. Simply because they are sooo small.

The Sony TX10 has a touchscreen but really, once you're below zero, you're so rugged up that no pocket camera will work without removing thick gloves.

      • All I need is an easy way to turn it on/off and a decent sized shutter button. Not for cold weather gloves, but thinner motorcycle gloves.

The buttons on this one look pretty difficult. But I haven't compared it to others. If none of them are suitable, then it's none I'll buy.

  • Is this better than Fujifilm Finepix X30?

  • Would this camera be nappy bag / toddler proof?

Such that… if water were to spill on camera, or toddler were to drop the camera (repeatedly), is it likely to survive?

    cheers

    • Certainly likely to cope better than most other cameras on the market.

    • i havent dropped mine yet but i have washed it in seawater a few times. still working

  • Sold out!

But Officeworks has free shipping - Win!

  • Just bought one from Officeworks. At the time of enquiry they only had 8 left (silver colour) at their NSW warehouse.

    • ozChick, no chance of red colour ? i want red to match with my dslr

      • No red. Only silver ones left at Officeworks.

Unless you want to go somewhere else to get the colour you want, you wouldn't be paying that price.

  • Kodak have a new cheap waterproof camera for $120rrp

    http://www.camera-warehouse.com.au/p/kodak-easyshare-sport-c…

    • Avoid this unless you really have to save $60.

Note that the lens on the Kodak is fixed focus at 1.3m to infinity. Better for landscapes etc.

AA batteries and also VGA-quality video recording.

  • Good price.

The Sony TX10 has better image quality but more expensive!

Had an Olympus waterproof/shockproof 'tough' camera a few models back, and after 2 or 3 years it leaked on me whilst I was snorkeling hundreds of metres from the shore, turning its innards into a corroded paperweight (and yes, I did wash it after using it in water and check the seals, as per the manual).

I'm not sure if it was an Olympus-brand problem or whether the whole concept of submerging a camera in salt water is a bit dubious. I wish they designed them with one door (rather than 2) - for fewer points of failure - and had a water-proof barrier between the rest of the camera and the user-compartment with battery/memory-card/usb-connector - so that if it did leak, the rest of the camera would still be okay. But at the moment that's not the case, and any salt water that gets in goes everywhere, and will destroy the whole camera.

So my recommendation would be to to accept that it probably has a limited life-span of a few years until it will fail if you use it in water, and therefore try not to spend too much on an underwater camera, and to backup your photos before taking it into the water.

    • When camera's/watches are rated to a water depth it means you can safely submerse the device to that depth. What gets people is when they splash about or use it at the beach, etc. thinking they are not diving deeper than the quoted 3m/5m/30m, but a wave/diving/pushing camera throught the water can exceed the pressures it's designed to cope with.

    • the seals are rubber and with all rubber they dry and crack over time, hence why we need to replace washers in taps

  • thats what worry me. over time (short) then it will leaks. no way it can stand water with all the compartment for battery and memory cards accessible by user.
maybe 2-3 worth for $179 ? obviously not for rrp price.

well, i pass on this and save money for dslr lenses
