          • @Eeples: i haven't, but obviously OW wouldn't price beat it, they will use any excuses they could

  • If you aren't able to price beat Officeworks via phone order, I recommend going into your local store ASAP before the word gets around.

  • Has officeworks updated prices on their website?

Model: MXK32X/A is the same price.

Model: MVVJ2XA is the same price.

  • I managed to OW PB over the phone on the Macbook Air Quad Core. He said I was lucky - agreed to the price beat based on the published website price, then when he went into their ordering system it was listing the JB Hifi price. He still gave me the extra 5% off, but it sounds like I may have been one of the last.

I just got Officeworks phone rep to price beat HarveyNorman Mac Mini i5/8GB/512GB price of of $1539, so $1462.05 :)

  • Just wondering which Macbook is the most popular on here? Which one are you all buying? Is there a stand-out model? Any I should avoid or recommendations.
    Thanks in advance.

    • What are you using the macbook for? Which model to choose base on what you using it for.

      • I'll be using it for a little bit of everything. Mainly for basic everyday household stuff, photos, watching videos, a bit of research and some social media.

I'd go with the base line MacBook Pro. Which is what I did.

Then you are better off with the Macbook Air and save around $360

          • @doctorwatson: that was what I thought, but apparently air has an overheating issue:

            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IULkXAHjL_s

          • @doctorwatson: Roughly $270 difference. As I got it with the 5% officeworks price beat. Verse 10% jb discount. $342 if I compare apple to apples. But I wasn't expecting the extra 5% either. Or the ability to use my Amex without a surcharge like jb hi-fi which charge 2.5%.

I was leaning towards the air until I went into an apple store and talked to a tech.

In the pro I get a fan that works. A laptop that won't overheat and throttle when I do use more resource intensive software and multitask. which in turn should result in components lasting longer and give me better real world performance than the air would. Nothing worse than a throttled system. Doesn't matter how good the 10th gen y series i5 is.

A more powerful u series processor verse y series. Retina display with true tone offering wide colour support and a brighter screen which is important for my photos and videos.
An Oled touch bar which has actually been a lot more handy than I originally thought and great for productivity.
Glad it has the magic keyboard which the air also does.

I could justify the $300 jump from the air which has the fundamental heating issue. But I Couldn't justify the $850 jump to the maxed out 13" Pro. If I went that way, I'd jump to the 16" Pro which would offer the serious performance upgrades I'd be looking for for video editing.

But then I had to remind myself it is first and foremost a business laptop and I already have a laptop for video editing.

    • The consensus seems to be that if you are concerned about the potential heat/fan issues then just go for the dual core i3 base model Air if your doing basic stuff. This video here also shows some good real world tests;

The MacBook Pro 13 base model is the same price as the quad core Air, with the Air getting 512GB of storage compared to the 256 of the Pro but they both have the i5 and the Pro would handle the heat better and has the touch bar feature.

I have had 2 MB Pros but with the specs on the Air now being such good value, I thought for my basic needs I won't harness the features of a Pro.

I got the MacBook Air from Officeworks just before they updated the pricing to beat JB. $1367.14 compared to $1709.14 if you got in for the extra 5% price beat with Officeworks.

BTW, is the general mindset on OZB that AppleCare is not worth it? I wouldn't normally think about it but the "potential" heat issue makes me think twice. I guess if it was that bad, they would do a recall anyways?

  • Purchase them all guys!! I'm waiting for the 2019 models to run out before I start a consumer law claim on a 2017 model :)

    • Consumer law claim?

      • Yes multiple failures on a 13.3” model: trackpad, keyboard and touchbar.
        After warranty lapsed of course.

Sorry to heart that, flawless for almost three years here MBP 13 inch

          • @Fancydancer: It happens… my previous 2009 15" MBP lasted almost 8 years. Glad yours is still going strong!

I got TGG to price match even though JB had no stock of the Mac Mini. Then used 5% off gift cards to pay.

  • Going back to uni so looking at the baseline MacBook Pro. For that price, is there worth more i could be looking?
Don't really play much games on the lappy, just LoL really.
