Thanks. Such a pity that the airmiles partners do not include Virgin, Qantas or KrisFlyer.

    • Yeah, I was disappointed at this too, particularly since I have status with both Virgin and Qantas.

If you happened to get a status match to Virgin in their recent promotion (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/51586), or hold Virgin Australia Velocity Gold or Platinum status the hard way, you're also eligible for complimentary elite status with IHG's Priority Club or Hilton's HHonors: http://www.velocityrewards.com.au/content/Status/Benefitsat-…

    • i have my marriott points going to my qantas ff - they are definitely affiliated!

  • So how do you GET this silver status? Is on a new signup?

    • only available to new members. follow the link http://www.ozbargain.com.au/goto/54724

There are links for both new members and existing members at the URL I linked to: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/goto/54724
See "Not a member? Join Marriott Rewards >> and be automatically registered for this exclusive offer" and "Already a member? Register Now >>".

Silver status was applied automatically when I signed up as a new member today.

      • Link worked perfectly. Put my existing number in, and i'm registered!
        Cheers!

    • I have been a member for 5+ years…. just upgraded my membership with the link

      • Did you need to change your earning to miles and add one of the participating airlines? I signed up but I couldn't see anything different with my account (but I left it as earning points rather than miles)

        • I fly those airlines listed but don't ff memberships with any.

  • Thank you!

  • free is good but silver mariott is shiiiiiiiiitttttttyyyyyyy benefits :D

      shiiiiiiiiitttttttyyyyyyy benefits

LOL, I agree with you and I almost certainly won't be taking advantage of this myself since I was given HHonors Diamond with my recent Virgin Australia status match. Still, free is free, and I'm sure others will find the free internet (in Asia-Pacific hotels) and late checkout very handy benefits if they happen to be staying at a Marriott hotel and have no other options. :)

I got negged for bagging my own post. :)

  • Is there a way to apply said membership perks to bookings through wotif/lastminute etc?

Most of the perks (with the exception of the weekend discount) should be given to you when you present your membership card at check-in, regardless of where you booked or how much you paid. If there's any doubt, you can always phone the hotel and get them to associate your status and membership number with the booking beforehand — but I don't think that's necessary for these silver level perks (for higher statuses which give room upgrades, it's a good idea to inform the hotel of your status beforehand if you've booked through a third-party because of availability issues).

  • Marriott Hotel Pitt st Sydney, has a wonderful early arrivals lounge :)

  • Great for those that want to work their way up the Marriott rewards status chain. Good first post OP!

  • New members get silver status.

Do existing members also get the silver status upgrade or just the miles bonus? This is not clear at http://joinmarriottrewards.com/30000Miles

    • Just scroll down a little and you will see where you can enter your existing account details to get the Silver benefits.

  • Was a silver member before good deal!

  • Now all we need is discounted Marriot stays…

  • when does this expire? joined about 2 weeks ago and didnt get the silver status………
