unless you want to pay $100+ for a LMF2 or a Prodigy or a Strongarm or any of the military approved fixed blades then that's all you're going to get for the money…

Reviews seem pretty good for a knife of this price. I have one myself (but haven't used it yet) and it feels reasonably solid.

    FYI:
"In most states – including New South Wales, Victoria, Northern Territory, and South Australia – it is illegal to carry a weapon, even for self-defense. This includes knives, which states consider dangerous articles or prohibited weapons."

Unless you're going for hiking or camping, I won't recommend carrying one.

Well if you honestly think that you might need one, I'd put it to you like this:
In what situation would a police officer search you and end up finding the knife, landing you in hot water? They don't do stop and frisk in Australia as far as I know.
If you end up in a situation where you do need to defend yourself, would you rather have the knife and face the consequences of having it after defending yourself, or face the danger unarmed?

yeah, that's why I carry my hand gun around.

perfect for when you find some bad roaches in your bathroom…

Blade is 440A steel which is the worst/cheapest you can get. Very poor toughness and edge retention.

You would be far better off buying a Ganzo from aliexpress for a similar price - which will be 440C with a range of designs

I think you have to be realistic with what you're doing with a China $30 three inch blade.

If its just a general use slash camp knife then this is fine.

If you're going to be opening up 44 gal. drum or batoning or something crazy then you need a 420hc or better full length fixed blade.

The fact its only 3 in meeans its not going to be doing much but being a fancy letter opener.

On the plus side it should be easy to sharpen lol.

Except the saw part of the blade makes that harder which is why i would stay away this style of folder.

    • +2

Most of these won't see tougher use than slashing open a bag of chips. Edge retention shouldn't be a problem.

  • Good thing to have when having a run-in with a Kodiak or Polar bear I suppose.

So you can finish yourself off after it's mauled you?

  • +1

Well, this is right on time.

    • lol @ the razor blades…so outlaw

  • Are there any laws in VIC regarding blade size or the fact that it's folding?

    • The way the police are in Aus you may as well take it as given that if you have this on your person then the police are going to make an issue of it.

Cannot be assisted open (flick assist, spring assist, and apparently thumb hole assisted)*

Supposed to be <3 inch blade length if folding I believe?

But you need a lawful excuse to carry anyway (work or licensed club etc).

*Weirdly I have seen plenty of Spiderco knives for sale in Victoria which have the thumb hole assisted open, and that I have ordered online to get seized by customs! So buyer beware I guess, you'll probably get in big trouble if caught because you just moved from Controlled weapons into Prohibited weapons territory.

back when i was heavily into collecting knives, i'd always send a link to customs asking if such and such knife is okay to import. not sure if customs still provides such a service but safer to ask.

i know the frustration of seeing a cheaper knife overseas or a model that isn't available here. had a leatherman c33l confiscated, even though it was being legally sold here for about $30 more. i was lucky; seller refunded me when i emailed them the seizure letter.
