  • I need to hang a curtain rod on Gyprock. Is the full boar set for for purpose? If not any other suggestions?

    • Just gyprock? If yes, then your better off using a plasterboard anchor.

If there is a stud behind it, the full boar drill set will do.

    • I would suggest you hit a stud or your curtain and your gyprock won't last long. Try the very edge of the window framing, you might hit a stud there.

Tbh If it's just gyprock and frame you don't need to pre drill. The pine is soft and will take the screw pretty well, just as long as the screw is not too big. I did my whole house this way with no issues.

      • Hmm. How do I know if there is a stud above the window?

        • Use stud finder will be your safest bet.

However, it is possible to tell with sound test by tapping it, follow by test drill to to see if you got it right. I won’t recommend this unless you know what you are doing as there can be cables or pipes behind instead.

        • I think you will find studs directly above both corners of the window frame. As mentioned grab a stud finder if u are unsure.

    Please avoid Craftright.

    • 100% agreed. Better off spending more upfront then buying twice. My Craftright set barely makes a scratch on steel/aluminium. They are ok on soft timber though.

    • Generally speaking, sure, but I've got this set and its brilliant if you live in a double brick house.

    • Took me multiple purchases to be convinced that Craftright is absolute rubbish and should just be ignored.

Its race to the bottom pricing is tempting, but everyone really should know that it is targeting to and only to new DIYers who don’t have trained eyes for tools.

May as well use a chalk stick instead of craftright drill bit!

  • I've used this set of full boar drill bits before and they were rubbish. Apparently this is a Bunning's house brand but meant to be their premium offering. The performance of the bit was disappointing as was the endurance (despite using cutting fluid, the correct speed and the right amount of pressure). I normally give this house brands a go but this is one of those times you're better off spending more for a better bit.

I love how the picture of the Full Boar set already has the 2mm drill bit missing.

    • In both photos too! Absolute stitch-up.

    • 2mm drill bits, 10mm sockets, pencils and measuring tapes - somewhere there's a universe where all of these end up in a heap!
