Tried a batch in the slow cooker recently, worked out nice but can't get near the wicked sister flavour.

    @ every ozbargainer,
    do NOT buy this stuff

They're highly addictive :( ate a whole tub for a snack cause it's so delicious (very high in sugar tho)

    • brand name checks out, this pudding is truly wicked. and they don't go easy on the vanilla bean

  • +5

So delicious, but I just about had a heart attack when I read the sugar content on the back.

    • -3

Less than a can of coke chill

      • +11

A can of Coke has 39.8g of sugar, this tub has 68.5g. I think if you ever need to spout Coca Cola as a reference point in defence of something’s sugar content, then it likely has too much sugar.
I’m am chill, I didn’t have the heart attack… but no you for the concern.

        • +2

          no you

        • Please don't eat the full 500 grams in one time

            @Mokr: Breakfast of kings

Most kings did not reign for long. Now you know why

          • +1

@Mokr: This is OzBargain don't forget… This whole tub worth would slide down nicely between the <enter name of fast food here> meal that came before it for many on here.

I make it at home and it tastes very similar but you need Fresh free range egg yokes and vanilla bean paste.

Helps if you have your own chickens. But then you have the problem of making a couple of litres and eating way too much of it.lol

But you can control the sugar then.

  • +14

Pro tip: it's more enjoyable if you don't look at the sugar content.

  • +1

Tried it once and thought it was too runny.
    Really wasn't impressed at all.

Oh well, I'll have to give it a second chance

    • +1

Put it out in the sun, it will stop running and you'll be able to catch it.

You must have gotten a bad batch. All the ones I’ve gotten are really thick, like a creamy paste.

  • +1

I used to feel guilty eating a whole tub of this at a time but it's only 100gm more than the tins of pudding that Aldi sell, so what's an extra couple or mouthfuls?!

I've never looked at the sugar content of these, but surely it's obvious a creamy pre-made pudding type dessert would have loads of sugar.

Makes me feel happy though when I eat it and that's got to be a little important.

    • Any idea what the aldi ones contain? I used to eat their canned creamed rice with frozen fruit, delicious

      • When ALDI used to source their tinned rice pudding from Belgium it was amazing. The current made in Australia one is just good.

  • If I remember this was half priced back in late July 2019. Because I bought few Tubs and stored in office and told my colleague before she went on maternity. I loved it so much I don't recall not buying when half priced. So this one is my second time buying. That's how long it was half priced.

    • It is rarely on sale at colesworths, although coles did have it on sale a couple of weeks ago

      • Not the 500g tubs. The smaller ones go on sale often.

  • +1

It's not bad, I have it every now and then, but it's not as amazing as some of the people in the comments are saying. To those people, have you had rice pudding in good restaurants? Once you've had rice pudding in high quality restaurants, you won't think this is amazing.

    • +4

You can say that about nearly all packaged & processed foods. Anything in a restaurant will be better - but it also costs 10 times the price.

      • Yep, I don't disagree with you. And at this price, it's a bargain and people should buy it (I know I will). I'm just saying to the people who think this is amazing, it's not. It's good, but there is better in restaurants (which admittedly cost more)

      • +2

        $25-50?

This is as good as supermarket gets so far, yes it's inferior to home made. But home made is a pain with milk boiling over. You've got to keep constant vigilance which I don't enjoy

    • Home made beats supermarket and restaurants hands down. It's actually very easy to make.

  • +1

You can actually feel the crunch of whole sugar crystals in this one. Truly wicked. I try and limit to once every 6 weeks.

    • +1

I have been always wondering what that occasional crunch was.

  • was $4.10 at Haymarket Metro.

  • Tried a batch in the slow cooker recently, tastes like cardamom

  • Really want to stock up on this, at this price….
12 of these for the minimum $30 spend for click and collect.

  • I think I had one last time and it was too delicate in flavour. I like the canned ones. Maybe I should try again.

  • +1

What do you mean? It's only 14% sugar. I saw kids yogurt snacks (dried yogurt) are 80% sugar.

    • Coke is 11% and is commonly used as an example of high sugar food. So I would not refer to this as "only" 14% sugar. On the other hand when you consider cheap chocolate such as Toblerone, it is 60% sugar and similar for other cheap supermarket chocolate, so yes this rice pudding is comparatively not bad sugar content-wise. More worrying though is the overall carb content. Most of the carbs in rice are simple starches, which from the point of view of your body are pretty much the same as sugar, based on how quickly they convert to glucose once you eat them. Same for bread or anything made out of flour and other starchy foods such as potatoes.

$3.75 at my local Woolies, not a big deal

  • +2

My local store forgot to take down the discount pricing ticket so I claimed under the supermarket scanning code and received the first one free and three at the discounted price.
