  • $209 for 500GB?! I'd expect this to be made of entirely MLC NAND! You'd be much better off with an HP EX950 (if you need the speed) or the WD SN550.

    • Nope, you could be much worse of with HP EX950. That is good drive, but is hard to find here, even more expensive than Firecuda 520, and HP is slower.

      And there's no point comparing much slower WD Blue SN550 - they're completely different classes.

      Firecuda 520 is PCIe 4.0 which makes big difference in speed. It's actually nod bad deal for $179 after $30 cashback (cardback) - of course, for those having PCIe Gen 4 motherboards.

      • That's the Barracuda 510 going for 1TB, far worse. The Firecuda 520 with cashback is going for the same price as a 1TB MX500, exorbitant. While sure the EX950 does not exactly match it, it is much cheaper and sequential speeds really don't matter. Note that I said to get the SN550 if you don't need the speed.

          If you don't need the speed, this deal simply isn't for you. In reality, if you aren't doing video editing or certain other data intensive tasks etc, you won't really notice the difference between 500mb/s and 5000mb/s

            @suburbanmale: Yeah I know, but I know a lot of people who are convinced NVMe is going to make their computer 5x faster. Trying to clear up any confusion.

            @suburbanmale: That's right.

            But if you do need the speed, then it's worthwhile investing in fast PCIe 4.0 storage, and you don't need the largest drive to benefit from the upgrade.

            You can get the fastest drive in smaller capacity e.g. 500 GB this Firecuda 520 on PCIE 4.0 for the main workload, and for additional space add cheaper 1TB/2TB/… in whatever form factor (M.2, SATA SSD, external USB).

  • How tf is this even a good deal at all??

      Yep this deal is terrible yet OzBargainers gobble it up.

    If you feel the need to say this isn't a good deal or its really EXPENSIVE for a 500 GB nvme then this product isn't for you. Save your time and continue looking for more "deals".
