Copilot Live Premium iPhone GPS App Launch Special Only $29.99. Sygic GPS Also $29.99

70

Just recieved an emailabout this launch special.

CoPilot was one of the best GPS programs many years ago. Looks like they are trying for a come back with thier new CoPilot Live Premuim app.
At only $29.99 may be worth a go for people not willing to pay top dollar for TomTom.
Make sure you type CoPilot Premium as they are still selling their old product for $59

  • i think this is a bargain when you compare it to competitors.

Not sure of the quality of this product though.

    • Not sure what competitor you are thinking about?

      Metroview is $14.99

      http://itunes.apple.com/au/app/metroview-gps-navigation/id37…

Interface in the CoPilot looks nice and clear… but who knows how serious they are with the mapping data and keeping things up to date?

      • I was thinking of TomTom, but I stand corrected.

      • +1

I think Metroview is great value, but it is not in the same league as the premium apps.
TomTom and Navigon are first class. Sygic and CoPilot are not far behind.
I have tried them all. Personally I think Metroview is half as good but it is one-fith the price so it wins on value.
At $29.99 I think both CoPilot and Sygic are premium products for a bargain price. (While on sale)

  • I should add that this is for Australia and New Zealand. Tomtom charges $75each for these.
For anyone that used to have anoriginal windows mobile,CoPilot had a great reputation for their GPS.
They used to be a company you could relyonfor a good product. They have some strong competitionnow so they better have released with quality.

      • yep. not sure what has happened tomy android tablet. veryannoying.

      • Better than Piston Broke :-D

        • Problem was 3rd party keyboard app. Original keyboard working fine.

  • OP should fix the typos - title and first sentance of description

    Premuim = PremIUm

Fixed. Now you can fix you spelling of sentence :-)

  • Just noticed that Sygic has just dropped thier price to match CoPilot. So check out both while they are cheap.
Sygic on sale until 20 October, CoPilot does not say when in expires.

      Sygic… man… they are a bit dodgy.

They introduced Sygic Aura, which was suppose to replace Sygic Maps. I bought Aura, thinking it was the newer one. However, they've decided to merge the two products and Sygic Maps (the older one) was the one which remains active in iTunes store.

Sygic Aura users will only get about 1-2 weeks to get a map update. If you missed it, you will have to wait 6 more months for the next update (and for that 6 months, you will be stuck with the old map). Sygic decided to merge the product two months after I bought it. Some of the features in Aura also got removed when they merged the two product (to get them back, you need to pay for them).

      • Sygic was great but over the last 12 months they have made a lot of bad decisions. Aura was a disaster. I have only ben using Navigon and Tomtom latey.
At $29.99 Sygic is cheap but not sure if I would recommend, but then I have not used it for 12 months.
I think CoPilot looks great and for $29.99 it is cheap enough to add to my GPS collection!

      • Question for Sygic… WHERE IS MY UPDATE? How come Maps users get proper regular update.. and I paid MORE for AURA and got this YOU MUST UPDATE within these 14 days - AND you don't even notify me before hand?

Anyway, their route selection isn't that great. Plus, $29.99 wasn't the best price. I don't like Sygic lowering the price by removing some of the features and make them as "additional" add-on purchases.

    • FYI, just received a reply from ALK Technologies support desk stating 'Note also - the special launch price will go up after 7 days'.

      • Cheers. Just added 14/10 as the expiry.

  • CoPilot Live (non-premium) edition for AU+NZ is over-priced, which makes this premium edition looks like a more cost effective version for now. The premium edition offers 3d landmark and more route selections over the standard version. Traffic update and petrol price both require additional purchases.

I tried the Android version before and wasn't very impressed.

In terms of actual routing and voice instruction, TomTom is still the best - but it is also the most expensive. Navigon is pretty good in terms of features. Metroview is still the cheapest option for iOS.

    • " Traffic update and petrol price both require additional purchases." Where did you read this?

      • Their web site. You expect them to throw in 1 year free live traffic and petrol at this price?

As far as I know, only Garmin Android phones come with 1 year petrol price check. No GPS software (except the ones for US) provides free AU live traffic. US ones may throw in 1 month free.

      • this is for the uk version but should be similar

"And despite the new name, confusingly the Premium services, such as traffic, will cost extra (currently £9.99 a year)."
        http://www.coolsmartphone.com/2011/06/28/copilot-live-premiu…

"A 12mth subscription to ActiveTraffic is available as an in-app purchase for £9.99."
        http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/ALK-Launch-CoPilot-Live-Premiu…

  • How does this compare to something like Whereis that is 100% free?

    • With where is you constantly download data, which could result in big bill. All the apps metioned about download all the map information to you phone, so no data cost.
Data can be free if you are with Telstra. Personally I found the other apps so much better that I don't bother with Whereis any more.

  • At least TTS (Text to Speech) is included with CoPilot Live Premium - was/is an additional $5.99 with now superceded CoPilot Live v8.

    • Most of the other GPS software include it as standard.

CoPilot Live for USA was $5 at one stage. So, it was okay for it not to include TTS. The AU version has always been over-priced.

      • Agreed but $59.99 + $5.99 ($65.98) down to $29.99 with TTS included is still more attractive.

  • For anyone interested in whether this 'new' version features updated maps, ALK Technologies support desk state 'I believe that Premium has newer maps, but I’m not certain…' and '…more updates and improvements planned'. Based on the frequency of updates for CoPilot Live v8 in the past, that doesn't say much.

Very important to note is that Copilot has no Ipad ready app and the premium version on sale does not include an ipad version

Sygic GPS gives you both versions for the one price

  • I use copilot and the interface is fantastic . Combine this with the $128 Acer liquid from JB and I'm not sure why you would bother with a dedicated GPS .
OOPS: just realiswd this is for IOS , Is this for special for android as well?

  • Looks like the Android version is AUD $57.99.

  • Is this worth more than "whereis" which is free?

(I know how to read a map and know where I'm going 99% of the time so never use a gps anyway. For the few times I get a little lost google maps has always been sufficient to work out where I am and where I need to be…)

  • I have CoPilot and IMO it is not as good as TomTom.

  • @troyww
Why pay for Copilot when you can use Google Navigator for free?
    https://market.android.com/details?id=com.google.android.app…

    • +2

Because Google Navigator is not a offline Navigator.
