I bought this one from Ali years ago, and it absolutely indestructible. Very thick stainless.

Kmart also used to sell the china version (but no longer).

If you can get one of these, at a decent price, they are fantastic. I don’t agree with the wire cutter review.

  • Put salt in when you mash, it will break up the fine particles as you mash for smooth mash. I've made prob 5ton of it in the last 10 years with a huge commercial one.

    • What is your view on the amount of butter?

      • +5

200g of butter to 600g of red or blue potato, add milk and salt to desired consistency.

Yes, it the butter content sounds excessive. Yes, your life will be changed.

Source: I am a self confessed mashed potato connoisseur and have done countless experiments. This is the recipe for Bisto Guillaume's "Paris Mash" which I believe to be the best tasting mashed potato I have found.

        • Ah yes, I have been to Bistro Guillaume’s before and the mash is truly great. I just wondered if you were in the “when too much butter is barely enough camp”; frankly if you are doing mash you might as well float the boat out all the way. We use the Dutch cream potatoes.

          • @try2bhelpful: Yeah, mash is comfort food anyway. You're not eating it for the nutritional value.

Dutch cream potatoes are great too. Basically any waxy flesh potato is a good match for this dish. My personal favourite variety is Royal Blue as it gives a beautiful deep golden colour to the dish.

Guess what's for dinner tonight haha

        • I solely use butter (no milk or cream), and it works out pretty well.

White pepper and corn kernels go well with it, too.

The same, but with minced garlic added, is also great.

Guess I'll be having potatoes for dinner, too!

From one mashed potato connoisseur to another, this does sound delicious. Just wanted to share my go-to recipe with you and see if you enjoy it. I finely dice garlic and cook it in thickened cream on low-med heat until the cream starts to warm up and bubble. Then i pour the cooked cream into the cooked potatoes and mash with salt to taste. No butter used. Learnt this recipe from a chef and i love it.

          • @hongerwonger: Yes, mashed potato made with cream is excellent as well. I'll give the garlic infusion a try. I like mash with spring onion in it too - basically Irish champ.

For such a simple food, it brings me much joy.

        • Add parsnip n garlic

      • Lots. Also if you do a good amount of butter when you reheat in a microwave the butter melts and you get soft airy mash.

    • I know this is sacrilege, and the mash is nowhere near as thick, but I get a pretty good result doing a cauliflower mash as well. I cook the cauliflower and then blend it, with some butter and milk, in my Vita-mix. It works well with stew.

  • Legend. As odd as it sounds I was actually in the market for one. My dad always complains about our current masher and his birthday is coming up.

Note: They're now out of stock but accepting orders for when they get stock.
