Sugar doesn't make you fat, fat makes you fat

      • +4

Let me correct that for you…
Sugar doesn't make you fat, unless you don't burn that energy, then it turns to fat.

        • +1

Sugar/glucose is a better energy source for high performance, whether it be from carbs (potatoes/rice) or refined sugar. Carbs 4 cal/g, fat 9cal/g.

Carbs and sugar get a bad reputation but you have to look at the industries contributing to that (meat and dairy).. It's when people eat too much of both fat and sugar that's the issue.

Agree that a lot of the general public may not be away of hidden sugars in processed foods.

          • @G-rig: "Obesity" is not the only problem wrt high sugar intake. There's a little thing called diabetes - a HUGE and expensive ($15B) problem in this country as we know - waiting in the wings, and then there's also heart health. Moderation is key as is not getting kids hooked on soft drink (or fruit juice) early.

            • @[Deactivated]: AFter doing the research you'll find out sugar isn't really the culprit here, saturated fat and cholesterol cause heart disease and diabetes, agree that excess calories still go to fat and the addictive nature of sugar & salt is a thing

              • @G-rig: You might want to do some more (better) research.

                • @[Deactivated]: I could link you a few pubmed articles, bit busy at the moment.

              • @G-rig: To be fair, everyone agrees that sugar, cholesterol, saturated fat etc are bad boys for the body. However, what's often debatable is the 'how bad' part. There are many opinions suggesting that pharma industry manipulates the 'suggested' levels of these common elements (and many others) in order to increase their markets while they aren't probably as bad as they are shown to be. Even a small change in a 'suggested level or range' can increase the market by billions of $$ if you think that way. One can argue that it's all WHO approved, blah blah but you have seen how it all seem to work. People have mixed views on this topic.

                • @virhlpool: Broadly correct (and many medical websites say as much) but there are plenty of studies which show connections between excessive intake of sugar and the increased risk of developing diabetes and having heart-related problems.

  • +2

Only if they got more sugar-free options.

    • They have lemon, lime and bitters. Good price with the additional 20% discount

      • This one any good?

  • +6

I love these drinks but the description of the mango one kills me: "Can be regarded as a healthy beverage" 42g of sugar later

    • That’s like 10 teaspoons 😱
      Crazy.

      • I think it’s more sugar than in a can of coke? Crazy alright

        • I would drink one of these than two or three Coke cans though.

I think it’s more sugar than in a can of coke? Crazy alright

Shhhh… There are people who drink 2-3 cans a day, particularly in the US! It's just normal in many places, nor it costs much.

    • I have tried that. Way too sweet.

  • +1

Thanks OP managed to get 20% off (hello diabeetus)

    • What is this people talking about 20% off?

      • +1

if you spend $50 or more you get the discount added in the cart

        • Do you have to be a prime member?

        • Thanks I see it now.
But how to search which ones are eligible/included? The note only says eligible household pantry.

          • +1

@CyberMurning: It shows on each eligible product's page, in the price area. Probably you need to be logged in.

    • You joke about it now….

  • +1

Anyone tried many flavours and can give us a flavour recommendation?

    • +1

Passionfruit, then lemonade, then guava/orange/grapefruit. All of which are nice.

    • +2

Passion fruit or guava are my recommendations. Like these and was about to pull the trigger but everyone saying how much sugar is in them put me off :(

      • +1

No offense to anyone but I've seen people who drink at least 4-5 beers every single weekend (ignore other unhealthy food which most of us eat) and say this when it comes to Coke/ Pepsi or any other soft drink. Each to their own. So make your own choice and prefer what you like among a wide variety of items which you don't totally avoid normally.

        • At least you get a buzz out of the beers though :P

Easier just drinking water or soda water

      • +1

dont worry get it.. everyone is just trying to be sweet that's all

    • Ginger beer of course as well.

    • +1

The Ginger beer Lemon Myrtle one is delicious

    • I've been searching for spiced ginger beer from previous Christmas, that stuff is delicious

  • +1

Guava is out of stock already.

  • No diet ginger beer :(

    • 12x750ml is available and works out cheaper. Just got 24x750ml for $41.28 with the Prime deal.

  • Every time I see this deal come up I hope the Ginger Beer is on special and it isnt. Doh!

    • +1

Ginger Beer is actually on the same/ special price - just the bigger pack. 24 pk instead of 12 pk. Price per bottle is the same.

      • Good pickup! Thanks!!

  • +3

Don’t buy it! This stuff is like cocaine!

I couldn’t stop drinking it even knowing how much sugar was in it!

I would tell myself I’ll drink is sparingly 😂 ending up drinking the case pretty quick 😅

  • I like the lemon and lime but way too much sugar
